Hanscom Thomas A, MD

I have been to see Dr. Hanscom twice. Each time, I have been impressed by his knowledge, bedside manner, and his assistants. I hit a trifecta! Seriously, though… a good doctor is sometimes hard to find in L.A. If you have any issues with your retina (I was seeing floaters), this is the place to go.

I have not personally been in to «see» Dr. Hanscom myself but he has taken very good care of my grandmother.
Her eyesight is steadily improving after surgery and she raves about how great he was.
Since she doesn’t speak English I take her to all her appointments and he seems like a professional and respectful doctor.
He takes the time to explain and at no time do you feel rushed.
His medical assistant is also a real treat.

Dr. Hanscom has preserved my mother’s sight. Thanks to him, my 94 year young mother can still drive and take care of herself.

I went to Dr. Hanscom with a vitreal detachment. I had to wait over an hour in his waiting room which was wall to wall people. I was put in an examining room that was part of a row of rooms — kind of like an assembly line. An assistant did most of the intake. When Dr. Hanscom finally came in, he was clipped, abrupt and frankly uninterested in my eye condition. He offered me very little information and when he found out I had seen a colleague of his, promptly cut him down to me. He made me feel as though I had wasted his time, told me not to bother coming back to him and that I’d probably have the same problem in my other eye within the year. Thankfully, I returned to his colleague and it turns out I needed surgery on my eye to remove a build up of scar tissue. This man was a pompous oaf and incompetent to boot.

Dr. Hanscom has single handedly saved my sight. If you are diabetic or have any other medical complication that requires a retinal surgeon — he is the man. Oh yeah, and he’s not a dick to talk to like most doctors who are as good as he is. I cannot say enough good about him.
