I live on Montana and had been meaning to drop by due to all of the hype I had been hearing. Unfortunately, for us the hype was just that. The seating is a bit awkward but we did meet some great people as a result. That was a plus however, the 4 of us did all sit on the same side of the table. And although we were all on the same order # our meals came out one at a time and vastly spread apart. Finally, my fathers order arrives(fried egg sandwich) and the whites were runny and the yolk was over cooked. How that happened I don’t know. It’s rare that he would leave food on his plate but this was one of those times. The other meals(breakfast burrito /Egg Mclovin) were ok at best. It was all very fresh but the flavor was not there. Since it was my dads treat and my suggestion he will not be treating again anytime soon.

This place was great! Came here 11 am on Saturday and there were still several available tables. The brunch menu is amazing. We finally settled on the guac sandwich and the huevos rancheros bowl. Both were delicious as was coffee. Food was pricey but normal for LA. Coffee was surprisingly cheaper than some other places around. They service ass fast and friendly. You can use lap tops but it’s definitely lively /loud. Tables are a little small. But I loved the vibe and big windows. Some outdoor seats as well. Street parking took us a bit to find but not atrocious. Definitely will be back!

Very solid coffee shop… and more! I had a latte of some sort, and it was really strong tasting. At first I didn’t like it because it wasn’t as milky as most other lattes. But then I realized that since I do enjoy black coffee as well, this was a pretty good latte for me. We had brunch here as well… I had some sort of open faced egg sandwich with pesto sauce(?), lettuce, and tomatoes. Weird combination but somehow it worked. And it looked beautiful. It was all a bit pricey, but a «gift card» from brought the price down. Cute spot, I’d definitely come back. Or hit another location as I guess they have a few.

I am not necessarily thrilled about this place. I expected a more friendly service, but I guess O cannot expect every higher end coffee shop to meet same«Intelligentsia» standards. Not that they have to imitate other businesses but, you expect a good experience as well. Their coffee is ok, not bad. But I can get good coffee around the block from there and have better experience. I was also wondering if because of the neighborhood and their regulars is that they don’t care about the rest of us passerby. I don’t feel like come back.

Cute place with very pretty cappuccinos, served in stone pots. It was a little cold as they had the AC on after dark and the music was a bit loud for comfortable conversation. Like all expensive coffee joints, the beans in bulk are exorbitant. But I’ll come back here now and again if I find myself on Montana with some time to kill. Addendum: one thing I love is they don’t have a credit/debit card minimum. Thank goodness…

Soooo cute! This place has the cutest floral decorations, lots of succulents and flowers everywhere. If you’re looking for a cute place to IG(let’s be real, you know that’s a lowkey factor nowadays), this is a nice place. Plus the food is good and very filling. The best? No, I wouldnt say that. But definitely worth your time. The portion sizes are just right, food and drink, and they also come in cute dining wear. Ok but, why this place isn’t five stars is the crowds. It’s not that you couldn’t find a place to sit – there was tons of seating – it’s that every table was so close together and tiny. There was one big table outside(which was already pretty full when we got there around 1130 am on a Saturday) and one large table inside. The table inside was inaccessible due to poor layout tbh. The actual dining area is very narrow and instead of the line forming out the door, it span through the indoor seating, blocking off the entire one side of the long table and making it uncomfortable to sit at the surrounding tables. Also the small tables, as implied, are very small. So are the seats, which could get uncomfy for some. But over all, if you don’t care too much about crowds and waiting a while, I would say I you should come here at least once! The staff is very friendly! I’m definitely going to bring more friends here next month! Come after the brunch crowd for better luck with tables!(By 12 the place had cleared significantly)

Neat coffee shop; love the vibe and décor and drinks. It ranged from Vietnamese coffee to hemp milk! They also have breakfast and lunch food here, but didn’t try it. We ordered Mexican mocha and salted caramel latte. They were both good, but I loved the flavor of the salted caramel! Prices are fair and service was mediocre, though. Patio seating outside as well.

Super nice area and nice place to work! They have free internet and enough work seating for everyone. It’s a corner café on Montana, which means that it brings a diverse crowd to the place. They have 1 long table when you first walk in, which is the only place that they have outlets for charging. The only downfall to this, is that the seating gets in the way for the line to order food and drinks. For that reason, I give it 4⁄5 stars. Wish they had more options for charging. Overall, prices were good for a small coffee and they offered tasty looking and healthy snacks. Staff was nice and attentive. Free wifi. Pet friendly. Would definitely come back here if I ever wanna get some work done.

Pros: Indoor and outdoor seating, food available, dine-in cups/mugs are adorable mixture of ceramics and mason jars. Nice touch. You can pick up compartes chocolate bars here! Overall I didn’t feel terribly impressed by the place, but it was OK. The line didn’t move very quickly, and when it was finally my turn to order, I felt that the employee at the counter barked, «for here or to go?» at me — well hello/good morning to you too. Off to a bad start. The price of their almond milk latte is fair at $ 4.50, almost $ 1 less than café luxxe… although honestly I didn’t think as good… it’s nice that they do have food options here but I didn’t think the huevos rancheros was very good. Not much flavor coming through I nearly salted the dish and I can’t remember the last time I added more salt to my food. hmph, maybe other stuff is better?

You should fire your baristas, this is what I got as a cappuccino. Can’t believe this is a coffee shop. Worst coffee than Starbucks! FYI this is not a micro foam

Where can you eat on X-mas morning in Santa Monica? — Pacific Dining: Kra expensive and not very good(per my Unilocal Elite mates) — Izzy’s: Also read it’s not very good and kinda depressing(check out the yellow tinge on the walls inside). AND it’s also rockin’ spendy for what you get — Lenny’s Deli: Delish, but you’d be surprised how far that drive is to Westwood when you’re STARVING. And it’s always packed. Well, welcome to your new X-mas jam, dear Unilocalers! Quite possibly the best breakfast in all of LA, spectacular coffee and tea, nummy sugary bites — should you be craving something sweet — and kick-ass employees all housed in a delightful rustic-French sorta fabulous. While we were walking up to the shop, kid says: «Groundwork needs to get a liquor license. I could def go for a mimosa with my Huevos rancheros bowl.»

Normally I am content with the Starbucks down the street but when I’m in need of a more upscale morning, I’m glad for GWC. The inside décor is the standard rustic coffee house(reclaimed wood tables, wrought iron light fixtures, etc); the inside and outside tables provide plenty of space to work, drink your coffee, or chat over breakfast. The coffee is good quality on par with your blue bottles and intelligentsias, etc. The food menu screams trendy Cali breakfast cuisine – but not necessarily in a bad way. For my money, though, I think the food is a bit over priced(11 $ for a jar of oatmeal and some fruit?!)…if I’m gonna spend that money on breakfast I’d rather go down to Huckleberry or Blue Plate. Still, GWC is a great place to grab a coffee and muffin and do some great people watching on Montana Ave.

We love coming to Groundwork. Most of the time it isn’t too crowded and has great study vibes indoors. We sat outside at the communal tables this week and really enjoyed the company. The cashiers and waiters do a good job of getting your order right. They seem a bit stressed when the line is long, but if you catch them at a calmer time they are very friendly. Breakfast and lunch menu options are varied. I got the huevos rancheros, which were the best I had ever had. Very filling and flavorful Mexican styled breakfast. My friend enjoyed the salmon and egg over toast, but still had an appetite after she finished the dish. We sampled the cold brew iced horchata and it was AMAZING. Definitely getting a large glass of that next time we come back!

3 ½ stars. I stopped in here today for a quick bite before work. I ordered a breakfast quesadilla and a horchata iced coffee(with an extra shot of espresso). It is a cute and clean little place and if you go at a more quiet time it would be a good place to get some work done. The horchata iced coffee was very good and you can tell they use quality products, including the horchata. That being said, the coffee is what makes this place 3 ½ instead of 3 stars. The quesadilla had scrambled eggs, a little bacon, and grilled onions inside. It had very little flavor and for almost $ 10 you only get 4 small pieces. I was very hungry and didn’t even finish the last piece because of its lack of flavor.

Came here for brunch with some friends. Totally did not realize that this was more of a coffee shop than a sit down place. Parking wasn’t hard to find, found neighborhood parking behind it, and there’s metered parking available. There’s a lot of benches and tables outside to sit on, but since it was so hot, I chose to sit inside. No hostess or wait staff, you just sit where you can. I found a communal table with four seats available so I took that. I ordered a dish that was basically smoked salmon benedict with a fancy name that I can’t remember and a cold brew(I believe it was around $ 18 — a little on the hefty side for my wallet). 2 of my friends ordered the same thing(love that smoked salmon yo), and my other friend ordered the poke bowl with brown rice. I was pleasantly surprised at her poke bowl, it was pretty tasty! Our smoked salmon benedict came with two pieces of toast, and I think there was one egg in between the toasts(I think they cut a hole out cause I didn’t even realize the egg was in there till I cut everything). The coffee was delicious, not bitter at all(a sign of good coffee)! I noticed that they have multiple locations, may come back if it’s not out of the way! Cute fact: they have their own Snapchat filter! :)

Gosh, how come I didn’t hear about this place earlier!!! My wife and I came here to grab a late brunch and some drinks as we sat to look through our travel photos. The place was full and alive with people on a Monday early afternoon. We ordered egg burrito with chicken, egg quesadilla and some chai tea latte made with almond milk. The food was delicious and I especially loved the side dip sauce that had a little bit of kick to it. Our chai tea latte was amazing. In fact, it was so amazing that I am afraid to go back and not find the same taste; hopefully that’s not the case because I’m marking this place as a go to café! I think my only true disappointment with this place is the extra charge for adding chicken to the egg burrito. Most places charge a buck or two, even three max but here it was like adding an extra meal. I think they need to rethink pricing for extras like that.

I was so excited to try this place, so I headed over on a Sunday morning for brunch. It was pretty busy, but there are lots of seats outside. I had the compartes chocolate french toast and the bf had the huevos rancheros bowl. The french toast lacked what they were advertising, which is the chocolate. The french toast had a custard consistency towards the middle, which I enjoyed. The bowl was just two pieces of fried tortilla, topped with beans, cheese and avocado. Unfortunately, this spot was disappointing for brunch and was kinda pricey.
