My husband and I have been living at the Charmont for almost 1 year and we love it here. The Charmont was constructed in the 1920’s and still has many of the charming details. The location is fantastic — just 4 blocks from Ocean Ave and 2 blocks from the 3rd Street Promenade, yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be nestled in a quiet neighborhood. The rent price is fair for the quality of living you get — one of the few apartments with a pool! The grounds are meticulously maintained and beautiful. Management is also great as well — very responsive, treat you like family, kind, and understand. Teri is fantastic and was superb to us from the moment we decided to look at the apartment till almost a year after we’ve moved in. This is the best place we’ve ever rented and we’ve been renting various apartments for over 8 years. The only cons I have are there is no dishwasher and W/D in the units and taking trash out is a bit of a walk. There is a large laundry room the basement though. As long as you don’t mind those, it is a fantastic place to live! The pros significantly outweigh the cons.

lived there for 13 years… Gorgeous building! Great people, and onsite manager… Diane Brinkler is a saint from heaven… and the owner, Susan Connely, while offsite and a committed focused business person, nevertheless, and quite notably, has an excellent visionary proactive stance regarding her continued improvements and upgrades to the building. She has high level aesthetics and is not afraid to put her money where her mouth is, as the saying goes, in terms of constant investment into the building, e.g. installing terra cotta or ceramic tile in entries and patios, restoration of original malibu tile fountain to perfect and clean working condition, planting trees, painting building. I lived there between 1993 and 2008, my name is Rory.

This historical landmark apartment building is in downtown Santa Monica just a few blocks from the ocean as well as a few short blocks from the shops, restaurants & nightlife of the Third Street Promenade. Bachelors, singles and one-bedrooms are available, priced on the high side but meticulously maintained. The manager, Dianne, lives on site. You will not find a nicer, more professional or efficient apartment manager. The Charmont was almost completely destroyed by the Northridge quake but has been rebuilt stronger and better. The main building is 5 stories, stucco with a Spanish tile roof and quaint French windows. It is fully gated, has a beautiful courtyard entrance with flowers and a fountain, and a vintage lobby containing a piano. I think the studio apts. are especially nice. They are not all the same, but some have 1920’s-style dressing rooms with built-ins. The Charmont just oozes character. Many residents have lived there for years and years. For others, it’s a perfect starting place upon landing in L.A. — friendly, safe & well-located. You can walk to everything including buses, but if you do have a car, street parking in the area can be problematic. Also an issue is late night noise from people leaving local night spots, so if you are a light sleeper avoid renting on the street side.
