Every place in town was packed. Called and they said no waiting. Didn’t even ask how many in our party. Should have been a sign. Hamachi was nice and fresh to my surprise. Other rolls were ok. Our services was excellent. If I was going to have sushi again in Santa Fe id probably try something new. Nothing we tried really captured my taste buds to make me come back.

This place is ok. It was really dead when we came here on a Saturday. I am wondering if the location is because of it. The service was the kind you get when they think, «yea, they are kind of just there…» The food was ok, not amazing sushi, or maybe we were just anticipating something better, something to bring us back, which unfortunately, I don’t think we will come back. We started with the New Mexico Starfish, which was bland. We ordered the BOAT. 16 pieces of assorted fresh fish over rice and served with a California, Alaska and tuna roll. Sushi and Sashimi for two. We tried pretty much everything they had to offer and it was meh…

Went to this place based on Unilocal reviews. We liked it! Had salmon skin roll, good taste, had the San Francisco roll, they used crab stick aka crab with a K, they should use real crab as the flavor would of been better, but good tasting regardless. The spicy tuna wasn’t the best I’ve had. Coming from LA and having had bomb sushi, this tasted like a bathroom smelled. I tasted the scent of a restaurant bathroom… we had gyoza, delish. We then ordered the shrimp tempura roll. Really tasty and fresh. Over all, I would come back. I could smell the cigar shop next door, but then again I can smell ants. So maybe not everyone would. Staff was nice, clean place, ok décor. Good prices! They seemed to have nice lunch deals as well.

Food was ok at best, service was on the brink of rude. Waiter was impatient an pretty obvious about when we were ordering. My cousin had the tofu, and it was very good, my habachi chicken and friend rice would have been good if the server would have brought my order to me while it was still hot. Nothing brings a meal’s quality down like food that is not served at the proper temperature! The server stayed scarce the entire meal, and it ended up being over priced for the quality of food and service.

We had a seriously different experience from the reviewer who called the service«superb.» We came in that same day at about 6:30 pm. Someone did greet us and wave sort of helplessly around the big, nearly empty restaurant to say we could sit anywhere. So we did – and she disappeared. Just flat disappeared. Another employee arrived near the front door and did paperwork for awhile. Then she left. I caught her eye and got a «What?» look back. The sushi chef saw us looking around for service, too, but just kept up with his comfortable pacing back and forth and doing nothing. No menu, no water, no «Be right there.» Just a big flat nothing. We left. We used to come here all the time, but apparently things have changed.

What a surprise ! Great dining room superb service Terrific food. Started with maguro sushi fresh as could be. Avacado salad yumm udon noodles good as any I’ve had anywhere in the world. Do not miss this unassuming place on Cerillos just across from the venerable El Rey inn. Highest recommendation

Came for lunch to go. Doors opened late but was quickly taken to the back bar to order. I ordered the sushi and California roll lunch and an additional spicy tuna hand roll with extra wasabi. The ticket came out to ~$ 25. What I saw before me when I got home was not $ 25 worth of sushi. The California roll was very petite although it tasted good. The assortment of sushi was good, the sushi was fresh, the serving size was very small. The extra hand roll that I ordered was tasty but there should have been 2 hand rolls for the price. There was not extra wasabi despite me asking twice for it. Verdict: Sushi tastes good but eat before you go here because the portion size is dismal.

Clean environment with nice atmosphere. Diner box is good. But eel hand roll’s wrap not crunchy enough.

My husband and I ate here after an early movie during the week. As someone else noted in their review don’t let the exterior of the building fool you. The restaurant is nice inside! I had the salmon combo box and my husband ordered the shrimp tempura dinner. Everything was delicious The salmon was splendidly grilled and the shrimp tempura had a wonderful crunch. We will go back the next time we are in Santa Fe.

We normally eat sushi in Albuquerque and living in Santa Fe, we wanted something closer. So trying all the different sushi restaurants, we came across Tokyo Café and by far the best sushi in Santa Fe! Angel wings a must to try.

We decided to try out Tokyo Café for lunch, even though it used to be Teriyaki Bowl, whose food was seriously lacking. Good news! It’s like a new world now. The interior was brought up to code and the prices were reasonable. I ordered the tempura rainbow roll and it was great. I also ordered the chicken fried rice, which was a little bland until I poured my wasabi/soy sauce mixture that was left over from the sushi. That made the dish. Service was quick and on the final bill, they do a «suggested tip at 10%, 15%, and 20%. I tipped a little over 20%. I will be back.

Don’t be fooled by the mundane exterior. They’ve turned the inside of Tokyo Café very classy and beautifully decorated. We were the only ones there Saturday evening which points more to the bad location than the food. Being right off a busy corridor at the top of St. Francis, it’s easy to miss, but worth it to make a stop. As for the food: I tried the chicken teriyaki, the udon noodle bowl and the New Mexico sushi roll. The soup was not much to remember in terms of taste, but it was jam-packed with veggies and chicken. The teriyaki is your standard chicken and the sauce was slightly above average. Now the sushi, the New Mexico roll was outstanding. I’m not real sure where fresh fish comes from out here, but the tuna and salmon in this roll felt plump and as fresh as they could be. There wasn’t anything I would have changed about it. Fantastic! I’ll most definitely be back to try more sushi and how this place catches on. It’s a great alternative to other, pricier sushi joints in Santa Fe.

Found this place through groupon and was super excited to try a new sushi place in Santa fe. We were greeted by a giant waving cat on arrival that is meant for good luck. The sushi was really fresh and served in generous portions. I recommend trying the Manhattan and the bmw rolls, both were.amazing. definitely. Will be back again. Also they have a great happy hour menu.

Right off the bat, this isn’t Shohko which is the best sushi in town. But it’s very solid, the fish we had was fresh and clean. You’re not going to get the same sushi offerings you’ll find at Shohko(forget for exmaple finding Uni). What is available is very good and cost far less than Shohko. Service was very good, the place was attractive and clean. If I had the money, I’d eat at Shohko all the time. I don’t. It’s a treat to eat sushi and now with Tokyo Café is around, I can eat it more often, save Shohko for special occasions(or if someone else pick up the check).

It’s ok for Santa Fe. A decent sushi option. Huge disappointment is that you only get one piece of sashimi per order and $ 3 for one piece of unagi isn’t worth it. Standard is 2 pieces anywhere else. Rolls are a little small but ok. BMW roll is pretty tasty.

I just cannot recommend this place for someone looking for sushi that has had good sushi before. The rolls were very pretty, but the flavor did not match the appearance. The tempura was over breaded and quite greasy. Our server was very inattentive. I’m sorry, we were just not fans.

Nice place! Really, it’s quite beautiful inside, and right across from the El Ray Inn with the gorgeous prolific Datura in the center median of Cerrillos. God I wish I could right a review on those Datura! Good ‘n cheap menu items as well. I went there for lunch and got a three roll special for $ 9.99 –Nice! My friend got the Dani(sp?) salad. She loved it, though it was pretty heavy with Mayo, it was tasty!

I don’t know when this place opened but I was surprised to see that it didn’t have any Unilocal reviews, so this it’s first! Living between Santa Fe and Los Angeles I’m always happy when I see a new restaurant in Santa Fe, especially a Japanese one! We had a light lunch of Miso Soup, Age Dashi Tofu, and Salmon Sushi. We were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary a spicy crab sunemono type salad that was really yummy. Miso soup was standard which is a huge plus in my book. Age Tofu was a different presentation than traditional but was light and perfectly fried. Sushi was served just the right temperature which I was also delighted with. I consider myself an expert critic on most foods but especially Japanese as I am married to a Japanese native whose mother is a chef. This place is comparable to the downtown Santa Fe Japanese options at a lower price. It has a nicely remodeled interior that surprised me for the location. I will definitely make this a regular stop when in SFe!
