The atmosphere here is very unique. There is some of the typical Asian style décor but now of the feel. The feeling is more retro diner. There is a motorcycle hanging from the ceiling! There is a wide selection of rolls. The rolls I have were prepared excellently. The servers were a bit curt and forgot to turn off the open signs then became upset when someone came in wanting service. For a place right off the theater plaza you would think they would be good at closing their own place down if they wanted to leave on time. As I find service quality as one of my top priorities when I got out to eat this is the reason for my 3 star rating. Perhaps if I try this place again and have better service I will update my rating.

Single worst sushi experience in all my years in Santa Fe. Poor service. They brought the wrong dish. The rolls were all rice, falling apart, no flavor. It was awful. Super expensive sashimi and very poor on every level. Giving your money away would be a better investment. Let them go out of business now so a real place can move in.

We came here for a celebratory dinner on a Sunday evening around 6 pm. Our server was very professional. Dishes arrived at just the right times: the server was always on the spot without being at all intrusive. We had the Santa Fe roll, Alaska roll, a couple of nigiri, salmon skin handroll, and green tea tempura ice cream, and loved every bite we took. The fish was fresh and delicious, the rice tender and tasty, the tempura was done well, and the flavor combinations were perfect. Even the ginger was unusually fresh and juicy. The atmosphere was enjoyable as well, with the lights down, popular French music, friendly server, and sushi chef chatting with a customer as he worked. We will definitely be coming back!

I have not been to this restaurant. Only wanted to write that information on Unilocal is wrong. They do NOT do takeout. **Update*** Ended up going to restaurant after calling twice and inquiring if they did take out. We were advised«no» both times only to see someone order takeout at the counter once we arrived. Server was nice but very slow. Forgot one roll that was ordered. Do not get Santa Fe roll, terrible taste. Also, rice used in rolls not very good. Sashimi appetizer pretty expensive @ $ 15 – 16 and the slices were puney. Ordered 4 rolls, nigiri, sashimi appetizer, miso soup(lukewarm)edemame(too salty) and 1 beer. $ 100 bucks. Will not go again.

This is not the freshest or best sushi in Santa Fe, but it is the best sushi on the south side. The staff is friendly and attentive, which is appreciated. I’m not sure why the downtown location is so much better, but the south side location is definitely lacking.

Average food. Incredibly slow service. There’s no way you can have a job and eat lunch here. The california roll was warm and several pieces of my sashimi had a definite smell. Not good.

The food was delicious! We had a squid salad, caterpillar roll, and the sashimi plate. Every bite was exquisite. However, the service was super slow. It took ten minutes to be seated! Luckily, the table we sat at was super cool. Yet, it took another fifteen minutes to place an order, another fifteen to receive our food, and even longer to get the check. My friend even joked about leaving without paying because no one was there to notice. They were very under staffed for a Friday night.

For the past ten years my husband has been attempting to get me to enjoy eating sushi. I have tried several times and never seemed to enjoy the taste. Saturday night after a romantic stroll through the Santa Fe Plaza we ventured off to find his #2 love, Sushi!, After reading several reviews on Unilocal we decided to check out San Q. We discovered San Q down a neat little alley after a friendly burro pointed out the right direction to our Sushi meal. I loved the ambiance of the place. Staff was extremely friendly and attentive. My husband was excited to see autograph posters by Nickleback and Deff Leppard. From the Japanese Tapas Menu you must try the Grilled Sake Toro(Salmon belly). From the Robata Yaki(Skewered and Grilled) Menu the Quail eggs wrapped in bacon are a delicious bite. The Miso soup that came with my dinner was the best I have had in our travels. The Teriaky Chicken was fair. Finally, from the Maki Sushi(Cut Rolls) Menu the Spicy Tuna Tempura Rolls were very good! I am a picky eater and it is a great feat to get me to enjoy sushi! P. S. We ate at Sushi Bar since we like to always visit with the Sushi Chef while they prepare our meal. When I made a quick trip to the girls room I discovered that they had a very cool dinning room where you can sit at your table on pillows on the floor. It would have been cool to eat our meal in this cozy back room.

I’m teetering on a 3.5 review. The décor of this place is Japanese-American pub fusion, and I can’t tell if it’s too corny. The sushi I had was okay… The salmon was cut so thin that I could barely taste it. They do have inventive rolls, which I sampled. Their Philadelphia roll is interesting in that it’s a Cali roll topped with salmon and cream cheese. The hamachi was pretty darn good here, and the Ikura was super fresh and tasty. The price fairness varied on the sushi. For example, the Ikura was a great deal for 2, but the salmon was cut so thin that it was like a half order. I liked that they had Stella and some O’Dells on draft, for pretty cheap, too. The servers were friendly and attentive, but then again, we were the only ones there. I would stop by here again if I’m seeing a movie, but otherwise I’m going back to Water Street…

I went here for lunch(despite the poor reviews), defying my Unilocal principles and you know what? – I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi chef was friendly, albeit very limited in English, but he’s from Japan for goodness sakes! My sushi was good and the tempura was huge and very good. I asked for a spicy tuna hand roll with roe eggs, but I got a spicy tuna CUT roll AND a roe sushi. He didn’t understand me I guess. I overlooked it because he was so funny, trying to give directions in broken Spanish and English to the helpers in the back. I finally taught him how to say proper commands in Spanish. I got weird looks from the back, which obviously questioned how a «Chinita» knew how to speak Spanish. I will definitely be back, if not to give the chef another Spanish lesson.
