I had a lilac bush to give as a present but later found out the nursery which Payne’s procured the lilac bush uses insecticides which are harmful to the bees… I brought it back and left it… no one seemed concerned as to the product they were selling… I spoke to 2 very indifferent people this goes right to proper labeling whether is is food or plants life… we all need to know too bad I will not be going back

I have been shocked that each time I call or go in to this nursery, the people who work there are not interested in kindness or customer service. I am not a demanding customer but I have been treated horribly here. It feels like they are doing me a huge favor if I just ask how much something is. They seem put out no matter what I ask. Havent had this experience at any other nursery.

Save your time and shop at Lowes for your plants. The attitude stinks in this place

I’ve had good experiences with Payne’s. I regularly choose them over Santa Fe’s box stores. They almost always have what I need… and the prices are certainly better than the old Santa Fe Greenhouses’ were. There is always someone around to ask questions of, and often someone appears to ask me if I need help. I’ve always found the people there to be very helpful. The plants I have bought from Payne’s have always thrived. And there’s an unusual herb I get every spring that they ALWAYS have. Yesterday was more of the same: having stopped by Newman’s to look for a common item, I found they were out of it and had no idea when they could get more. Payne’s wasn’t out, though.(I should have gone there first). The folks at the cash register couldn’t have been sweeter. So it started out to be a good visit. The problem was picking up the stuff at the side of the building. I had to wait awhile, but I was okay with that. A couple of people checked on me and rousted out the guys that were supposed to be helping me: I appreciated their attention. That made me feel good. But one of the guys that helped load my truck was steady giving me the evil eye. I had the distinct impression that he wanted me to either drop dead or disappear from before his offended eyes. And he wanted me to see that look, too, because he walked around glaring at me to make sure I could see it. Nothing to ruin a shopping trip like an employee who wishes you were dead. Nothing’s perfect, I guess.

I am very upset. I tried to buy locally, so I paid $ 90 for a maple tree. They told me they had a 100 day guarantee. I planted it and it started to sag, but I waited. After 2 months all the leaves died. So I called to get my 100 day guarantee. They will give half off on the next tree instead of replacing it! That is a rip off. Lowes prices are much lower and they give a 1 year guarantee! DON’T BUYFROMPAYNES!!!

Well, they have some plants. But they look quite tired and dry. This nursery does have a good selection of fertilizers, pest killers, and such. It’s hard to find assistance with questions or finding specific plants. I’m heartbroken that Santa Fe Greenhouses closed last fall. The nursery choices in Santa Fe now are very poor.

Terrible service, no expertise. Used to be great, but went downhill in the past year. Santa Fe Greenhouses is much better.
