This review is specifically pointed toward the Axel Contemporary show that is up at the Peters Gallery for the next month… Interesting… About 30% of the art was somewhat pedestrian… Lots of abstract photography that wasn’t mind-blowing, but technically presented and displayed… The lack of use for the back patio outside area was disappointing, and the lighting for the few pieces that were placed there was criminal. With this said, it is a great show and I highly recommend it. There are a few really bad paintings by really well known painters, but I can’t judge painters for the sheer volume of crap they produce, and people buy that… Congratulations to Axel Contemporary also… The entire show makes me want to respect you guys even more than I already do… FTR… The prices for each piece on display and for sale were very reasonable in this town…

Since you’re in the neighborhood visiting the stunning Nedra Mattucci compound you’re already only a couple of blocks from Gerald Peters breathtaking new gallery. He used to be just off upper Canyon Road near where Geronimo is now. It was a lovely gallery and Mr. Peter’s represented many New Mexico’s most world famous artists including Georgia O’Keeffe for decades. There was even a small O’Keeffe for sale at the new gallery when I was in once. If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. But, he represents all kinds of artists and their works are beautifully presented in a spacious contemporary Southwest environment(leave the kids at the pool with grandma). Really more like a museum than a gallery. Quite lovely and serene.

The Starbucks of Santa Fe? Has some beautiful art pieces, but most works are overpriced. Local chatter: Heard that the locals do not patronize the place because the owner sues everyone. Can not confirm. Caveat emptor.
