I had high expectations for this «Patty sue» at shear west. all the reviews on her are great and i also bought a groupon. a few complaints:
–booking with her is a nightmare, you can only call when she is there which is half the days of the week. the other receptionists at this salon were very rude
–it took her 20 minutes just to set up my manicure (she knew i was coming?) because she was constantly running around like a schizo not paying attention to her client
–clearly unprofessional, from her personal appearance to her manicure space at the salon (kept looking back in her car to see if her dog was okay) seriously thought she was going to stop my appointment to go take her dog out.
–she was making strange comments about surrounding peoples conversations that she wasn’t a part of, and made me feel very uncomfortable
–she was very intense and wanted to talk about her life/​gossip/​problems instead of just doing my nails. it took her over an hour for a simple manicure.
–didn’t even soak my nails before my manicure or remove my old polish…
also didn’t know how to file them that well
–the polish looks good and im not unhappy with my nails, but more so the overall experience with this bizarre woman and her disintrest in helping me have a quick relaxing mani pedi.

I needed to get a hair cut and style on a Sunday for a wedding and I came across this salon, and the stylist was Joann. At first I was a little nervous because she is an older woman and a little shaky, but she did a wonderful job, cut my hair exactly how I wanted it and the style (curly down do) stayed in all night and looked great! It’s obvious she has been cutting hair for long time, don’t judge a book by its cover, she is a great hair stylist! (Also the cut and style cost $ 35, $ 15 for the cut and $ 20 for the style, can’t beat that!)

I just got a Mani/​Pedi by Patty Sue! It was great! I can see why everyone left her such warm reviews. She is a very sweet person and I enjoyed every minute of my service. I highly recommend her. The salon is quiet and cute and very relaxing. It’s tucked away on the west side of Santa Barbara among some run down bodegas but please don’t let this scare you away. Your experience in Shear West Salon will be one of your best.

I got a Groupon gift for a mani-​pedi by Patty Sue and it was the best present ever. Patty Sue was kind enough to squeeze me in her very busy schedule so I could get my nails done before a big trip. Her professional and sweet manner over the phone were superb. I was delighted when I met her this morning (I’m not a morning person and she was the best blend of speaking and letting me relax). Her charisma, kindness and attention to detail were fantastic. She takes great care in her work and is very meticulous. The salon is on the Eastside and there is plenty of street parking. I have tried numerous places in Santa Barbara and I can officially say that she is the best manicurist in Santa barbara and I will recommend her to everyone I know. Not only did I love the way my nails looked but I also left feeling like I made a new friend in town. Patty Sue is awesome and I highly recommend her services!

Shear West is way out of my neck-​of-​the-​woods, so I wouldn’t have happened in there if it wasn’t for the Living Social certificate that they offered. I am SO GLAD they did. I am renewing my vows (after 25 years) in Hawaii in 2 days and I wanted a fancy mani. Patti Sue was AMAZING. We had so much fun chatting and she was happy to «bling me up»!! I don’t get manis very often but I will definitely go back to Shear West. Loved it! (Now I need to figure out how to add a picture!!)

This is for the hair portion. Shear West at first would not accept the Unilocal deal I purchased. After phone calls with the owner and I’m assuming staff that support their social media/​app handles (I had to call myself, awkward) — the Unilocal deal was uneasily accepted by staff helping me. My haircut was fine, the overall highlighting left my hair looking «skunkish» (as a coworker informed me) and my healthy hair is now breaking and shedding horribly after a couple weeks of normal care and deep conditioning. Absolutely disappointed.

Shear West Salon is amazing! Kelly has been caring for my hair for 20 years and her knowledge and experience has been a blessing for me as I have very fine, thin baby hair. Her prices are amazing and her attention to my needs are over and beyond the call of duty! I know that when I walk out of her establishment, I am looking spectacular. I have seen first hand her results for her other clients and would recommend Shear West highly!

I took my wife so the two of us could get mani — pedis. Patty Sue took great care of us. Great location with it’s own parking lot.

Read all of patty’s great reviews and had to come check this place out for myself. I’ve been looking for a consistent place to get my nails done and this is definitely it for me. She’s great at what she does and is wonderful at making her clients feel comfortable. The five star ratings are not an exaggeration, patty use is truly the best!

Great mani pedis. Come here for Patty Sue, its a great price and she is amazing, nice, smart, funny, and makes the experience perfect. I will come back. She gives a great long service and takes her time. You can tell she loves what she does and cares.

I wanted to leave this review for Patty Sue because she is an extraordinary person. Not only am I pleased with her skill, I am so touched by her warmth. While mani/pedi’s are meant to be an enjoyable and relaxing experience, Patty Sue enhances the experience with her incredible warmth. It is an absolute pleasure to spend time with her. Because she has the skill to make your nails and toes look phenomenal and the warmth to allow you to have a thoroughly enjoyable experience, I would give Patty Sue 10 stars if I could. She is what everyone WANTS (but doesn’t always get) when they are getting a mani/​pedi– incredible skill coupled with undeniable warmth. Once you go to Patty Sue, you will not go anywhere else in Santa Barbara. (p.s. Patty Sue rearranged a personal appointment to fit me in to her schedule. She absolutely puts the customer first. One appointment with her and you will FEEL this for yourself).

This review is for Patty Sue. To say that Patty Sue is the best manicurist would be an understatement! She is not only extremely knowledgeable about nails, but she is also incredibly accommodating, generous, kind, and welcoming. The experience we had getting our nails done was more like a fun afternoon with the girls! Whenever I am in Santa Barbara I will certainly make a point to visit Patty Sue and get my nails done, even if I don’t need it!

Patti Sue is extremely welcoming and accommodating. She had a large selection of OPI nail polishes to choose from, and was also helpful with picking out the shades that would look best with my skin tone. The whole process was very relaxing and took a bit over an hour. I really enjoyed the hand and foot massage; it was a good way to spend part of the day and leave feeling better. She did a great job with my nails, and days later they haven’t even chipped — which is unheard of for me because I’m so bad at keeping my self-​inflicted manicures intact.
Overall, a great deal, I’ve recommended her to several friends, and certainly plan on going back myself.

They have a RETRO HAIR STYLIST here! OMG! Went to a 1920’s party and wanted to get my hair done in finger waves. My hair came out amazing! And, my hair was smooth and soft. I figured my hair would be rock hard for this style, but it wasn’t! They work magic here. They really do.
