I purchased a bike from Open Air Bicycles last week and was very pleased with the experience. The shop has a lot of great brands and really nice bikes available in the store. I was able to get a great deal on a beautiful Giant dual suspension mountain bike. Ewan(the store manager) and all the guys are very knowledgeable, friendly, and overall great to deal with. I would recommend the shop to anybody looking to get a great bike in the Santa Barbara area.

This weekend we took our 9 year old boys bike shopping, as they were grossly overdue for new bikes. We went here first and while the selection for boys their size was small, the customer service we received from Ewan was first rate, and we strongly recommend Open Air Bicycles if you’re in the market. We went to just about everyplace in town that sells bikes and received poor(not going to say where that was) to very good(Bicycle Bob’s &REI) customer service all over, but Ewan went above and beyond and was fantastic. Now that the kids have new bikes it’s almost time for Mom & Dad to get new bikes, and I think we’ll be heading back to Ewan at Open Air.

This bike store is fantastic! My husband and I were visiting from out of town and our tandem disc brakes were out of whack — basically unrideable. We called the shop, brought the bike in and they repaired it on the spot due to our situation. Matt pointed out our brake pads were shot — a dangerous situation for a tandem. The brakes now are working perfectly — no brake noise, perfect alignment — something we’ve never experienced before on this bike. Our bike vacation was saved! Great, friendly service.

What I like most about Open Air Bicycles is that they sell excellent road bikes, specifically Cannondale and Giant. This is also the place to go if you want to rent a road bike. The two male employees I spoke with in the summer were friendly and fairly helpful, though nothing outstanding. They were actually embarrassed when they caught me in the store because they were talking about a particular substance. Me startling them on a weekend and the fact that I just created this Unilocal page for them makes me think they don’t do as much business as their Lower State location. They did let me go on a long test ride wherever I wanted and unsupervised, which was nice. Open Air bicycle sales are final and there is one free tune up after a month. If you have an expensive bike I recommend purchasing the piece they have to prevent wheel theft. Ask the sales person and they will know what it’s called.
