I’ve been in Honor Roll a few times but now that the cheese and bread case is gone, the only stuff left to peruse are the artisan honeys, Mrs. Playground pastas, beer case, wines, and assorted market groceries. It’s a shame too. There was some great stuff in there. There still is. Can’t wait to see what the next incarnation looks like.

Honor Roll, is changing as of September 2015. I just started enjoying the cheese plates and breads the past couple of months. Now it’s the first week of September, two weeks after my last visit and the bread and cheese area is gone! Even though it has only been open 6 months, the market area is being reinvented. That fat, inviting round roll of bread that greets you as you peek through the door into the market… gone. No more high quality cheeses to sample, no more black mission figs, no more hazelnuts, no more almonds, no more hot peppers, no more accoutrements, no more unlimited toasted bread with the cheese plates. Gone is the one person that noticed my glasses every time I walked in. I already miss it, because there aren’t many places on this side of town where I can get good cheeses, thorough descriptions of the cheeses and honest(not price based) recommendations. Honor Roll, I hope you fill the rest of your space nicely, because it is going to be hard to top great cheese and wine that was near the front door!

I regret not Unilocaling 5stars before. Honor Roll was great while it lasted. Loved getting my pokpok, cheeses, and sauces here. It felt like a permanent farmers market.

They have some good stuff in this grocer. And by stuff I mean homemade hot sauces, fresh organic veggies, homemade stocks/broths, etc. They also have a little bakery which you HAVE to visit. They have little pastries and desserts and are always switching it up with a new variety of treats. They also have fresh breads and cheeses if you are looking to picnic. I even saw the chef from Social buying about four or five loafs of bread saying he had just run out at his restaurant. That’s a good thing by the way.

DTSA has a world class grocer offering haute provisions thanks to Honor Roll. After purchasing about $ 100.00 worth of meat at Electric City Butcher it dawned on me that some sides would most certainly be in order for an upcoming grilling session with friends and family. Thankfully, Honor Roll was literally one step away to fill that need. Truffle Potatoes, check. Fresh artisan crusty Bread, check. Playground Escabeche, check. Gourmet frozen Gumbo, 4 Chunk N Chip Gourmet Red Velvet Ice Cream Sandwiches, Rendered Duck fat, Ancho Chile Paste, a Six Pack of Ballast Point and a water infuser? Umm, well… why not. I can do some serious revolving credit damage here at Honor Roll thanks to its hundreds of interesting and delicious offerings, which is dangerous. My only wish is that I lived closer to it but then again, maybe it’s a good thing I don’t.

Very cool store, fun to walk around, and find grocery items you won’t find in many other stores. The staff is very nice and the items they have unique, for sure feel good grocery shopping. Fits in very well with everything in the Market, a nice stop before gorging inside.

Friendly, passionate staff, and there’s a great selection of products(wine, beer, grains, produce, salsas, kitchen supplies, succulents, etc). It is a bit pricier than a chain grocery store, but there seems to be more quality with Honor Roll’s selection. It also helps that mostly everything in the store is from local businesses/farms/breweries/etc.

4th Street Market based, this store sells a wide variety of items! A lot of fruits and veggies are available farmer’s market style. The price for them is pretty pricy though; rambutan is $ 10 per pound but you can get them super cheap at the local asian markets. They have a refrigerated section filled with good craft beers, fruity drinks, and even ice cream sandwiches. A cool thing that they do here is sell local premade products from the surrounding stores and restaurants. So things like cookie ice cream sandwiches from Chunk n’ Chip next door and pastries from Dough Exchange are just some of the local fair that can be found here. Overall, a little overpriced but provides nice local products.
