DONTSAY I DIDNTWARNYOU! Proceed with caution please. The gentleman who gave me rates by phone, I think Mark, was lovely and honest and helped me when I showed up a few days before needing to store things to sign the contract. They advertise free truck rental but that is there driver and you must book ahead of time so don’t anticipate it will be convenient, however he accommodated me with free boxes in addition to the ones included with storage rental. I came to move my things in after a large housing relocation and was met by Ted, the manager who was nice and helpful and helped me upgrade to a larger space. I needed friends help to unload and they are strict about closing at 6:00pm, which is understood so we were cleaned up and ready to roll out by 5:55pm. Completely separate from my personal storage space rental, the rental truck associated with my presence there was left in neutral by another party while I went to the bathroom and as I came out, it was rolling into their roll-up door. Relieved I had insurance and having stayed 45 minutes to give copies of documentation, I was called by the facility late at night requesting I come back in spite of having provided all the necessary documents and reporting it to the rental company to take care of. Of course Paul nor Ted nor the Owner Ed Kuykendahl were available to approve my «Payment» and allow the employee to take off their duplicate lock they installed. When I spoke to Paul finally on February 9,2016 and told him he was in breach of contract for the storage and that the accident was completely separate, he was belligerent and unprofessional. He told me the reason the lock was placed on the storage was for non payment even though I gave the manager Ted my two credit cards and he never ran one and that, Mark, was instructed not to take any payments from me until I provided them with personal liability insurance. I am not an unreasonable person. I explained to Paul, ad nausea that I didn’t have a personal liability policy since I do not drive and do not have a license, hence the full coverage of truck rental and it being left there by the driver the night before. It is now the 14th of February and I still do not have access to to my things even though I got one employee to agree to take my 20.00 remaining payment since I upgraded in storage size, which is an overcharge because their system did not account for 29 days and 3 different people told me their«system:» is right in spite of no one being able to explain the math. The storage spaces are not by cubic feet, they are by square feet so you will get charged the same exorbitant rate for a space with a slanted roof that you cant fit a damn thing in. And their«freight elevator» is a scissor lift so you have to carry everything and load it onto their lift and push a cart off the lift onto the second level with a clearance so low that both my friend and I hit are heads when the momentum of the cart sandwiched us between the wall and the lift. I LEFTWITH A BLACKEYEAS A RESULTANDHELEFTWITH A SLICEDOPENBRIDGEOFHISNOSE. Not once did they address the difficulties or injuries we sustained or even ask if everyone was okay before worrying about their door. I have found every interaction to be inconsistent, paranoid, I have constantly been punished for«the weird things you wouldn’t believe people have done here». I am disappointed I ever began to work with this facility. Its shocking to believe they stay i business. They also have Nave Storage in Novato and I am guessing business is handled the same way… INCONVENIENCEANDOVERCHARGINGWITHNOEXPLANATION

I went to Golden State Self Storage to rent a unit for a woman who had been in a car accident and had broken both her legs. They told me she had to come into the facility to rent it. I explained that she can’t do that, since she is in a convalescent hospital. I volunteered to take the contract to her to sign and to bring back the signed copy with a check, credit card or whatever else they needed. The attendant called the general manager to see if this would be OK, but he said it’s their policy not to let anyone take the contract out of the building, even though they get a copy to take with them when they come in to sign. I asked what’s the difference and he wouldn’t explain why and wouldn’t make an exception for this situation. He was rather rude and told me that if I don’t like their policy, then I don’t have to rent from them. A sign in the office advertises their local roots and friendly customer service. This was any thing but that. I then left and went across the freeway to Stow-A-Way storage and they were very happy to accommodate and gave me the contract to bring to my friend in the hospital to sign.
