As a Marin native having conducted nearly 20 years of research on the topic of taco trucks, it is very cool to write the first review for the only taco truck in Marin. If there is another taco truck it is not as consistently available as Canal Street Tacos Salvadoreño. Located in the Canal neighborhood at the convergence of Canal Street and Spinnaker Point Dr near the corner of Bahia Way, C.S.T.S. offers papusas and tacos done in a traditional El Salvadoran style. The friendly couple that run the taco truck do so with the husband standing in front of the truck acting as host, socializing with locals and quick to offer an introduction, while his wife does the prep and cooking from inside. The papusas are the marquee menu item, adorned with the traditional cabbage slaw and salsa topping and stuffed with cheese and /or sausage. The tacos are made with a thick, airy, and buttery tortilla similar in consistency to a chalupa or sopa, quite unique to their corn or flour counterparts. Too many sheepish«Marin-ites» have never even stepped foot in the Canal neighborhood. Perhaps the prospect of some golden brown cheese stuffed papusas will invite the larger community to taste the local flavor and see that The Canal neighborhood is for the most part a blue-collar family-oriented community… that just likes to play its ranchero music the way its suppose to be played… loud! I would give the food a solid 3 stars but the friendliness of the couple that run the truck along with the gratitude I feel for supplying a taco truck starved community with its fix bumps this review up to 4 stars.
