Asante is truly a rare find in Marin. It has moved since a lot of the last reviews have been written and its new location is in a sweet victorian house located across the street from Albert’s Park in San Rafael. It’s charming, quiet, and there is plenty of parking. The vibe is unpretentious, I didn’t feel rushed, and the massage therapists genuinely want to help. Each massage I’ve had there is top notch! I personally don’t like going to a spa where they try to sell you products or where you feel like you’re visiting some pristine palace… Asante is down to earth which makes me relax and feel right at home. Thank you!

I am not a huge fan. I got a so-so massage here from a masseuse named Kim. The massage wasn’t terrible but it definitely wasn’t worth laying there or the money. She was kind but the massage wasn’t fluid and she didn’t seem too in-tune with the body. It wasn’t just Kim’s fault. The massage room was very bright. There was a huge skylight in it that was partially covered. It is really uncomfortable to sit there naked in a brightly lit room. My facial there was a better experience. I thought the esthetician here was pleasant and gave me a good facial. I would go see her again but probably not at this location. It just doesn’t feel very relaxing.

Other reviewers are right, this place is unassuming from the outside, but the inside is fine enough by spa standards. I like that the waiting area isn’t loaded with products for you to buy. They’ve got a selection of metaphysical books for you to inspect your aura while you wait(if that’s your thing) and the obligatory plinky-plunky spa music. The foot bath is certainly a treat, but in my four visits I’ve only had it once(once the water was boiling hot and my treatment started before it cooled down enough and the other two times I guess they forgot). I’ve had one incredible massage, two decent ones, and one blah one — average 3 stars. Ask for the French guy!

Hated the hot stone massage I received from a not-so-great masseuse. I didn’t feel the stones were hot enough, nor my hour massage lasted that long. These hot stone massages look more pleasant & relaxing on the travel channels. I had a facial following my massage, but didn’t feel the beautician extracted with attention/detail. I literally had to ask for scalp massage, when it was already included in the package. She was trying to bypass giving scalp massages, but didn’t play me. Not a real fancy place with semi-décor & no upkeep. Won’t be back there for any services; it’s not Napa or Calistoga but prices are.

It’s a no frills kinda place and more holistic than chic, but I had a great massage and herbal wrap here. The place is a little run down, but very clean and the service is friendly, although not overly attentive. My massage was very good, but it was more for relaxing than working out tight knots(although I did request more pressure). Overall, I had a very pleasant experience and I’ll be back, but I’ll stick to Leah at the JCC for a more rigorous massage.

I have been here about 3 times now to get waxed. They give a complementary foot bath before a spa treatment. Prices are very reasonable compared to other San Rafael yuppie places. The waxer is very friendly and makes you very comfortable(if you are getting a special place waxed ;)). The also have excellent spa packages and couples treatment. The place looks small from the outside, but inside it is very charming. I recommend it to anyone looking for an afternoon retreat.
