Fortune Star Chinese Restaurant

I have had food here a few times. I have always wondered about food cost after the tax. I went there to pick up a late lunch/​early dinner. Beef Chow fun which I have ordered other places and it was always delicious. But the order I got at this restaurant was so bland and tasteless. The lady who took my order and my payment was so rude. She charged me $ 1.75 extra over the amount after taxes and she told me the price was after tax. I asked for a receipt from the cash register which she said had no register paper. I looked through the menu and the price was only $ 7.55. I informed her she over charged me and I calculated the taxes after she told me that she owed me $ 1.00. I got my correct change back but buyer beware to watch being over charged. Best to calculate your bill. I will not be back there are too many Asian restaurants in the area that have better food, customer service and do honest business.

I’ve been coming here for almost over 10 years, and I must say, despite the dated décor, I love this place since day 1. All I order here is the salt and pepper sea bass and crispy beef. The quality of food is great! There was a server that was not very nice, but I believe management took care of that. Other than that, this is your local «Cheer’s Bar» Chinese restaurant, where they do know your name when you come in, so they do treat you right. At times, they even comp you a free dish.

We know that it was X-​mas night and busy but that shouldn’t compromise good food or customer service. The waitress was very unfriendly. Even the way she poured our soup was mean. We asked if they could add egg to our chow fun. «No» we don’t that, she said. Wow, is that a hard thing to do? The hot and sour soup was just ok. The crispy beef and szechuan chicken was decent but the cashew chicken was flavorless. When we complained about the lousy chow fun they were nice enough to change it to chow mein but that was underwhelming. So sad. Used to really like this restaurant but don’t like the way we were treated.

The first time I ordered from Fortune Star they were two hours late and even when we called after 1.5 hours, they were rude and said it was coming. It actually arrived over two hours late. We were so angry, we told them to keep our food and they would not reimburse us. So stupidly, we found ourselves in a tight situation and actually gave them another try. The delivery guy was not satisfied with his tip (even though they’re menu says delivery is free for any order over $ 25!) and wanted more?! Will NEVER order from them again. Food is o.k. but not good enough to put up with their rudeness. I rarely write reviews — but this place warranted some feedback.

I would edit this quote to say that the only completely consistent people are the dead and Fortune Star. Fortune Star pretty much all you want from the Chinese joint. Quick delivery. You know what you are going to get once you’ve had it. Oh, and the food is good too. Why only 3 stars then? Let’s be honest, it’s not the absolute best option in town. I like Fortune Star and they deliver. Boom.

So let me start out by saying, the food here is SO good! The service on the other hand, very so-​so and even rude at times. You can kind of tell that the server is just a sour puss towards everyone, but that does not make it ok.
The ambiance is really bad, like cafeteria in an old folks home-​bad. They have two TVs in here that are so loud that you can not speak to the person you are dining with! Don’t get me wrong, when you have food in your mouth you also can’t have a conversation (or at least I hope not, CLOSE YOUR MOUTH! lol). But seriously, very loud due to the 2 TVs. Also, the servers have absolutely no reservations about screaming to the back of the restaurant to tell other servers things. Yelling very loudly right next to a customer is really not ok.
Again though, circling back around, the food is REALLY good!
I recommend take out only though :)

Best salt and pepper chicken wings and the war won ton soup. Family owned and operated, love this people they treat you like family. Tony is great and he can make whatever you want, we have also ordered for parties and very large quantities, pricing is great.

I have been eating at Fortune Star for 10 years. There is a reason why I kept going there to get my Chinese Food cravings. Their house specialty dishes are all very good. I am giving them 2 stars for this particular dinner (dine in) experience because of the service. The lady (who I believe is the owner) recognizes me every time I step foot in the restaurant and greets me with a smile and is extremely polite. The other lady (a server– who never smiles and just sounds rude) served us for my family dinner tonight. We ordered 6 dishes and noticed towards the end of the meal that we never received the sweet and sour pork we ordered. I told them that we did not receive it but noticed that they still charged it to Us on our bill. They write the bill in Cantonese so it’s hard to check if you don’t read the language. The server came to our table and insisted that she gave us the sweet and sour pork (which they didn’t bring to our table). They even brought out someone else’s used plate (which had a bright red gooey sauce) to tell us that they did in fact bring it to us. After 5 minutes of going back and forth about the sweet & sour pork another server apologized & said they adjusted our bill and took it off the bill. The short spikey hair rude server charged my credit card and insisted AGAIN that she gave us the sweet & sour pork dish. After I signed my receipt, I told her that I couldn’t believe she was still arguing with me about it. I told her that after coming here for over 10 years she was going to continue to argue. I told her to go ahead and charge me for the dish & I wanted to let her know i would still give them a $ 15 tip for my $ 65 bill they never brought to my table, but I would never come back to this restaurant again. I’m never going to order catering for my office again & I was going to tell all of my friends and family never to eat here again!!!

The only word I can use is «CONSISTENTCY!»
Whether we eat in the restaurant, we mostly have delivery, or at home I find the food to be delicious. Their veggies are not the standard cut or variety which I love and their meats are always tender, lean and without that funny crunch or chew you always seem to find at other places!
There really is not much I can say negative and I would so I guess some people may like 7 – 11 fare as opposed to great Chinese so I would say to that to each their own and buon appetit! :)

Just a friendly reminder that this is the worst combination of people & «Chinese» food you will ever come across. I’ve had frozen entrees from 7 eleven that was better quality. Please do yourself a favor and either give the money to charity or eat somewhere else. Pick any other place and I guarantee you it will be better.

My wife and I just got some takeout from here, cravin chinese! This was a big disappointment, I truly like panda express better and the taste and quality is better! Save your $ 40 and look for another place to eat, we wish we had!

The kids had Pot stickers and 3 different kinds of noodles. A clay pot dish with traditional salt fish flavors included got the more sophisticated tastes.

Eh chicken and beef were really mushy, wasn’t all that good. Won’t be ordering again.

I’ve been to this restaurant a bunch of times over the course of many, many years. I usually go during the week for their lunch special because you get more for your money. Dinner is just as good as lunch but a bit more expensive. My personal favorites are the boneless salt and pepper chicken (or shrimp) with sweet and sour sauce on the side, honey walnut shrimp, vegetable fried rice, vegetable chow mein or chow fun, pot stickers, hot and sour soup, and egg rolls. I’ve tried other plates, but I always go back to my favorites. The people that work here are always so friendly, and the service is quick.

I got my food in 10 minutes. It was decent it filled me up they got good lunch food for the price. Definitely better than my experience at Kobeya! I had the salt and pepper fish. A little bland on the chow mein. Nevertheless, good service, quick lunch food.

Fantastic Chinese food. Family owned and operated, been eating here for years, they never disappoint. Mongolian beef, general chicken, sizzling rice soup, all my favorites. Great good at great price…

I’ve been here several times and each time it gets worse. This was the last time! My parents and I went for our traditional Chinese food on Christmas Day. They were very busy doing to go orders and barely gave us the time of day. When we finally ordered, we did not receive one of the dishes. We couldn’t get water and had to get up several times to get it ourselves. The highlight of the meal were the spring rolls, crisp and not too greasy. From there it went down hill. The spicy chicken with vegetables was not spicy, it was bland. The pork chow mein was ok, We ordered a prawn dish we did not receive. Getting tea was like pulling teeth and all the other patrons in the restaurant were having a similar experience. If you don’t want to serve people, just open for to go!
We will not be back to Fortune Star.

I used to think their food was good and service… but over a span of 2 years both have gotten worse.
My office ordered about $ 40 worth of food through the Eat24 website– picked out the foods, put in our address, understood it would take over 45 – 60 minutes for our food, and paid through the app with a credit card AND left a tip.
Food arrived but I wasn’t around to receive, usually not a problem since my co-​workers are capable of receiving food and signing the receipt.
My issue?! I LEFT A TIP with my credit card but since I was not the person receiving the food and signing the receipt, I was informed that the driver DEMANDED a CASH TIP and wouldn’t leave until he received one! WTF.
Since my co-​worker was left in an awkward position and didn’t know I already left a tip, she gave the driver an additional $ 5! So the driver received a total of $ 12 for a tip!
So yeah… I will no longer frequent this place.

Came here for lunch during my break. The people here were super nice and they skimp out on the food at all. I like that give you fried rice chow mein and soup with your entrée for lunch specials. Most place will just give you steam rice. Food taste like a typical joint and the place is clean.

. I selected the General’s Chicken Lunch Special (Served w/​Egg Roll, Fried Won Ton, Fried Rice, Chow Mein,
), and the chicken was pretty good, although on the dry side. My coworkers tried some and liked the chicken more than I did. The fried rice and chow mein were good, but nothing amazing. The egg roll could’ve used more vegetables in the filling, and I gave away the fried won ton since it was just the fried wrapper, without any filling. Overall, this was a decent lunch special, and they gave you a good sized portion of chicken. I will likely be ordering another lunch from them again in the future.
