Came back after a long hiatus and I find that the food has definitely improved. Please have some Chicha Morada it’s the best I’ve tasted. The Lomo saltado was YUM and so was the parihuela. Other faves were the chili dipping sauces extra extra hot stuff.

i went to estampas peruanas with my family this weekend and they never disappoint. we ordered a feast! for starters we had anticuchos, ceviche mixto, papa a la huancaina, chicharron de pollo & camarones al ajillo. the anticuchos or «chicken» as my niece referred to them was bursting with flavor! the chicharron de pollo was juicy and camarones amazing! the entrees consisted of arroz con marisco a lo macho, lomo saltado & bistek a lo pobre. the bistek was a bit overcooked but still tasty. i loved the arroz con marisco a lo pobre which was a change of pace from the usual paella that we order and the lomo saltado was so good my niece couldn’t stop eating it! for dessert we had arroz con leche and alfajores! i’m not huge on dessert but alfajores are the one dessert i will never pass up!

Totally forgot to review this place when I went to it last year. It was always somewhat dead and after one of the Unilocal events at the Mandala lounge we came here for a quick dinner. The Tallarin saltado was just ok but the Chica Morada was good. Now it’s Waisiiki, another Peruvian restaurant, which seems to have better food. Maybe same owners different chef? Not sure btu it’s a marked improvement.

I’ve been here also. This restaurant CLOSED last year. This was the 2nd location of the popular Peruvian restaurant in Redwood City. — This area has very little foot traffic. — Not enough advertising to draw customers to this place. — Prices were between moderate & expensive for what you got, although the food was well prepared, and service was very friendly. — There was a special menu on weekends.

It was girls’ night. First my friend and I went to Happy Feet for a foot massage, and then tried Peruvian food for the first time at Estampas Peruanas, just down the street. Knowing it has mixed reviews and seeing only one other party eating there, I didn’t know what to expect. We were greeted warmly and served bread, butter, some kind of corn mixture, and a spicy sauce. We ordered: Pescado al Ajo — Fried red snapper fillet with sautéed garlic and white wine on top, comes with rice, lettuce, tomatoes and boiled potatoes. Pollo a la Farrilla — Boneless half chicken marinated with Chile pasilla, served with rice and potatoes. Plátano frito(fried plantain). Chicha Morada — a purple corn drink which we thought was tasty. We enjoyed the fresh well-seasoned fish, rice, and sweet plantains quite a bit. The chicken was the least favorite part of the meal. Overall, we were happy with our food and service.

i recently ate at this place, went with a few family friends and we must of tried everything on the menu, we were pretty excited to see a peruvian rest that offered this many authentic dishes which we enjoyed and the portions are big so come hungry, the rest had a more homely feel to it, nothing special but the food makes up for that, the owner was very attentive and made sure we were happy with our dishes, at first we were the only table dining but then again we went n at a off time, as we were leaving tables were filling up. i definitely will be back with my family and have some of their ceviche and lomo

So last Saturday we wanted to try a different restaurant and ended up here. I don’t know about the authenticity of Peruvian food but the dish that I ordered was good. I forgot what it was called but it was a chicken and rice dish«Peruvian Style». The service was good, mind you we were the only ones there and after a while another group came in. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy but it’s decent and clean. I’d eat here again.

I was looking forward to some really good arroz con pollo, it was more like boneless chicken thighs that were lightly sauteed, not really much flavor to the chicken at all. The rice was cilantro green regular rice that came with peas but not much cilantro flavor at all. I coulda been chewing pink cotton balls for all I care. While the portions are pretty large I don’t really think it’s worth the $ 14 per plate.

Great food. We had the stuffed fried potatoes with meat and the potatoes with cheese sauce for appetizer. Then for dinner Lomo Salado or whatever you call it. The beef was super tender. The veggies were very fresh too. A+ all the way. Regards, Mr. Burglecutt

I’m definitely not impressed by this place. The food was fine but not out of the ordinary, except for the prices. Almost $ 40 for lunch for 2? I was lured in by the words«Lunch Specials» painted across the window but found there was only one unappetizing special per day. Which means you’re left ordering from the more expensive main menu. We had the lomo saltado and the ceviche. The saltado was pretty good, I suppose since it’s hard to go wrong with fried steak and French fries. The ceviche was served with a chunk of corn on the cob and what I can best describe as homemade corn nuts. Can a more experienced Peruvian diner tell me if this is authentic? Because I thought it was strange. For my money I would rather go to the Peruvian restaurants on B St in San Mateo, which give a better bang for my buck. I second Jan C’s comment on the screaming children. In what land does that induce an appetite?

I guess this is the same location that used to be the Lucuma Restaurant. I sought this place out, having seen good reviews of Lucuma and wanting to try more Peruvian food. I went there for dinner on a Tuesday night. In the hour we were there, we were the only occupied table in the restaurant. I presume they must do much better business at lunch or maybe in delivery or something. The menu did have a changing daily lunch special offering. The exterior of the restaurant is completely drab in that California working class neighborhood style, and it would be easy to overlook the place even if you’re trying to find it. Parking can be extremely difficult. I actually tried to visit the restaurant on the weekend, but literally could not find a place to park. On a weeknight, parking on El Camino Real was actually not that hard. The interior is better decorated than the exterior, and even the menus come in leather binding. It’s clearly not fine dining, but it’s making an effort in that direction. When you arrive at the table, your given a bowl of bread, some green chili dipping sauce, butter, and a bowl of some sort of appetizer made from maize. The bread was good, but the chili dipping sauce was very mild, unseasoned, and kind of boring. I’m a Peruvian food novice and decided to try something that I figured would showcase the Chinese influences in the cuisine. Along with an Inca Kola(which I’ve tried before and enjoy) I ordered what effectively amounted to a Peruvian-style seafood fried rice. It was actually quite flavorless to the point where I doubt the cook even seasoned it with salt. Surprisingly boring, but inoffensive I guess. The service was fine — it’s kind of hard to get poor service when there are no other tables to pay attention to. This restaurant is not an especially good value for the money.

I’m peruvian so I had high expectetions for this place. Unfortunately I will not be back here. My dad thought it was a good idea to visit here on fahter’s day. He, my brother and his girlfriend asked for«pollo a la brasa» which is kind of a roasted chicken. All of them were dissapointed. My girlfriend and I asked for two seafood dishes and the flavors were flat and poor. We ended up adding salt and neither finished it. My mom asked for«Tallarin saltado» a typical pasta dish in Peru and It was the same. It’s so dissatisfying that so far I haven’t find a decent place in the Peninsula for some average peruvian food. Peruvian food is full of flavors and this restaurant doesn’t make justice to it. I rather drive 24 miles to S.F. and visit«Limon». Service is so so The server spilled wine on my dad’s shirt and even though the manager apologize that least that she could have offer is to have his dish as a compliment. Also she was wearing a plain t-shirt with a big dirt spot on it(the first thing I notice when I saw her). Will not come back.

Don’t go unless you speak Spanish, don’t mind the great unwashed, and enjoy the sound of young children screaming. Just like it’s big brother in Redwood City, this restaurant is not for someone who likes good food. There’s no air conditioning either and the sounds of El Camino Real roar in through the open doors. Go before 5 p.m. on a week day if you must. It’s not the smell of the food that will make you weak at the knees, but almost and not in a good way. Food is poor, mediocre at best. Try Macchu Picchu in Downtown San Mateo if you feel an uncontrolable urge to eat Peruvian food.

Tasty fried chicken, but you have to ask for it at dinner – for some reason it’s not on the dinner menu. I see a lot of folks having what might be homeland cooking here, so I’ll be back to explore more of the menu.
