I stopped there for lunch today and I was very impressive. The service was very friendly and fast!.they recommended us some very good food. I had a garlic fish and crab fried rice. It was very delicious and the food look really good. I would say this Thai restaurant is the best Thai food in the area.

3.5 stars. Charm Thai is a nice and modern Thai restaurant. It’s not a ‘themed’ restaurant– it’s just a cute and cozy place that I would want to come back to. PUMPKINCURRY($ 10.50) Flavorful pumpkin curry that tastes like red curry but just with kabocha squash. Portion was adequate, but kind of annoying that the dish is a curry, yet you have to pay extra for rice($ 1.50 for white, $ 2 for brown, $ 3 for coconut). CHARMTHAINOODLESOUP($ 12) This was a house special. Broth is very similar to Tom Kha as a delicious coconut soup. Comes with pork and shrimp(only 2 pieces). The broth was so good, but the noodles were very similar to packaged Maruchan ramen. Super disappointed that they would use this poor quality product instead of real ramen or even rice noodles. Another note that the bowl looks much larger than it actually is. Desserts looked amazing. Thai tea was good. Overall, some major hits and some major misses, but I’m not quite ready to dismiss it, so I would definitely want to come back and try some other items.

We eat food to survive, but every now and then we strike gold and this place is a treasure trove of gastronomic delights. Every thing that we ordered was a rock-solid 5 of 5 stars. I can taste the passion and love that went into crafting each dish and the staff were all so personable and friendly. I felt like I have hit the jackpot of Thai food in the Bay Area, needless to say… I will definitely continue to dine at this jewel!

Ordered Chicken Satay and a Yellow Curry w/prawns. The Satay was well cooked without being chewy, the peanut sauce was great. My curry with brown rice was excellent, spice was perfect and the rice and prawns properly cooked. If in the area again I’ll come back.

I have been here three times and the food never disappoints. I used to frequent Sweet Basil and that was my go-to Thai food place, until recently. The pad thai here is superb. It is both sweet and salty. The satay here is great and so is the mango sticky rice. Service is quick and the waiters are nice. I also like the little thai candy that they give out at the end. Some of my favorite dishes here –fried catfish –pad thai The only problem is that parking is a bit of a hassle, b/c the restaurant is on an open street. I usually use the McDonald’s parking lot. The store is clean and nice. It reminds me of a small woodsy café. I definitely will come more often! :)

If it wasn’t for Unilocal,I don’t think I would have ever stumbled upon this place. It’s located away from downtown San Mateo next to a McDonald’s. The décor is super cute upon walking in and the place is cozy. My friend and I got here around 6:15 on a weeknight and there was only one other table seated. However, as we were leaving around 7 or so, the restaurant was pretty much full. The service was attentive though I could see it being a bit slow once it gets busy. Now the food, we got 3 things to share. The roti with green curry as an app. The roti was nice and crispy and the green curry had good flavor though it was a bit watery so it was hard to dip. For the main entrees we got pad see ew and pumpkin curry. Both were very good in flavor and size. The pumpkin curry had a little bit of a kick to it which is probably why it was my favorite of the 3. I do not know of many Thai restaurants in the area so this will be the one I will return to when the Thai craving hits !

Pretty good thai here. Not amazing, but solid good. We ordered Red Curry(5 stars), Pad se ew(3 stars, Roti with Green Curry(2 stars) and Shrimp in a Blanket(4 stars). Red curry is very creamy featuring flavor explozzzion satisfying any Coconut for life addict. Least favorite was Roti that was too little pieces and watery green curry sauce that was edible but not great. The service, despite a busy dinner hour, was prompt and very friendly sporting big smiles often seen in Thailand. The staff was also attentive to small children. Overall, this Thai place offers a good option for those looking for Asian bowl extravaganza near San Mateo downtown.

Nice little place right off El Camino in San Mateo. Grabbed some delicious dinner here after a long day at the fairground nearby this past weekend and found myself polishing off the bowl of pumpkin curry I ordered. Ordered it spicy, and it came out just as I had hoped. Good amount of heat and the flavor was outstanding. Wasn’t expecting too much coming to this place to begin with, but it came out great and the food was exceptional.

Loved the food. We got rice and wok dish to go. We ordered take out and waited for about 10 minutes while they got the food ready. Loved the prompt service. The price is reasonable too: $ 28 with tips for two entrees and an appetizer. The food was hot and very tasty. I found the vegetables fresh and the curry adequately spiced. I will definitely visit again :)

Called ahead to make a reservation, and was told there would be a table ready for us. When we got there another family walked in at the same time, was given a table and NO table was waiting for us. Hmmm, no they don’t take reservations. Then another group walked in and just sat down. Hmmm something a little fishy going on here. So the food is great, but the service is not. When our food came out, I realized that I had forgotten to order a cup of soup. Usually a cup of soup would be or should be the easiest dish to bring out, but we waited at least a half hour for the soup and had to enquire about its delivery three times after ordering it. One server said it would another 5 minutes, then the next said«oh sorry, we are all out, it will take another half hour.» What the??? I called the original server over who said 5 minutes to tell him forget the soup, but he seemed to work some magic and the soup appeared. Amazing! Or something. The moral of this story, don’t eat here if you plan to stay, GETTAKEOUT! Like I said the food is delicious, some of the best Thai I have had on the peninsula. Loved the yellow curry, crab pad Thai, and the pumpkin curry. Some goods eats, but get it to go!

Decided to check out this restaurant as we still had thr Thai food cravings after our Vegas trip. The restaurant is small but cozy, service was good. We tried the crab pas thai, and it was mediocre, a little bit too sticky. The fried fish with garlic sauce was a good choice. The thai iced tea was a bit too sweet, but after adding some water it tasted alright. Hard to find a park around here. Make sure you put your name on the list if there’s a wait.

I can’t help but love this spot! I came to know this spot by driving by and I decided to check them out on Unilocal.Their reviews were pretty awesome and it happen that one day my sister asked me to pick up a To Go order. I picked it up and brought it home and it was a hit. Although the ToGo order was a bit smaller portion it was good. I decided to come back with my fiancé and my daughter here. We order chicken wings, bbq pork, pad see eww with beef, papaya salad and steam rice. It’s one of the best Thai restaurant in the area. The food was fresh, tasty and my family enjoyed it. The price is very reasonable, the pad see eww was one of the best I have ever had. We will be coming back :)

Location: It’s right next to McDonalds Parking: We parked on a residential street behind the café. The café is bright, clean and the team is friendly and attentive. The Sweet Sole was fried perfectly. The inside was moist and not over cooked. Bonus crunchy basil and delicious string beans however the use of the sweet chili sauce is excessive and unfortunately straight from the bottle. As is the case in many Thai restaurants in the Bay Area shortcuts are made and the food suffers. This dish seems to be an attempt at prik king but super sweet — if you want to go sweet tone it down considerably perhaps use mangos and do not add any bottled chili sauce. The tofu pumpkin curry was pretty good! The pumpkin was cooked perfectly. Overall a decent experience. They seem to specialize in Thai boat noodles but since it is meat based I’ll pass. Overall the café reminds me of a noodle house and I hope the owners explore that path and execute it well because Thai noodles with soup or dry are still a novelty in this area and they wouldn’t have competition. Thai dry noodles are perfect for the summer.

Came here as soon as they opened at 11am on a Saturday and was seated promptly since there was literally no one in the restaurant. I ordered a yellow curry with chicken entrée and a side of jasmine rice. Tbh the curry wasn’t bad. It was very single dimensioned in flavor but that I could’ve looked past. What seriously got me was the rice they served. First of all, it was $ 1.50. For rice. Wtf??? Secondly, the rice must’ve been at least a day old if not more. I have no clue how they were able to serve that junk b/c it was entirely hard and inedible in the middle. I would say that at least 40% of the rice was hard as a rock. And I actually tried very hard to break it with my fork. I hate making scenes in restaurants and I had a headache that day so I didn’t bring it up to management. But I walked out of the restaurant entirely confused and annoyed. If your restaurant is gonna serve RICE, the easiest thing to make in the world, at least make it so it’s fresh and EDIBLETYVM.

Ok, it took a year but I finally came back – not because I didn’t like it… but because it is so busy now!!! Lol. 20 min wait and thus place is small to start. The crispy fish is really good! Pineapple friend rice has so much ingredients. The gra pow beef is so flavorful and spicy. This place is great and I’m glad it took a year but it’s over 125 good reviews now. Slowly because a San Mateo hot spot :) sorry for yet another pic of the mango sweet rice but I keep forgetting to take a pic lol. Btw, the mango sweet rice comes warm and is really good!

Probably one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the bay! After traveling to Thailand, I found it difficult to find comparable Thai restaurants at a reasonable price. Enter Charm Thai Eatery. Our favorites for the night were the crab pad thai and the spicy thai noodle soup. The crab pat thai was so flavorful — and the right portion. The spicy thai noodle soup was the star of the night! Vermicelli noodles in the perfect tangy/spicy/lemongrass-y soup. Amazing. We tried the salmon rolls as well, per Unilocal’s recommendation, but weren’t too impressed. The salmon rolls at the House in SF are definitely a better version of this :). Will be back to try other dishes!

Popped in here for a quick dinner around 6 on a Friday. The décor was nice and modern but immediately I was struck by the inferno-like temperature in the place. Wow it was warm. I think by the time the chicken satay appetizer came my cheeks were rosy. So, the food was decent, probably 3 star. The satay tasted funny and was oily but somehow stringy. I ordered the pineapple fried rice which was pretty tasty but left my stomach a little queasy. Perhaps it was because I subbed beef for the shrimp due to allergy and they messed up. Either way I likely will try the other numerous thai places around me in San Mateo before I return to Charm Thai.
