Ever since I found this place I’ve been addicted to the breakfast burritos. They’re the nicest folks running the place and they’re really quick on top of being really well priced. I could(and almost do) eat here everyday. Clean, convenient, friendly and delicious.

Great people and great food! I’ve heard a lot about their sandwiches, but I usually go in for breakfast — yummy oatmeal and good coffee! The family that Café 400 this is very sweet.

This place is conveniently located across the street from work, so naturally it is a must for breakfast after a 6/7am client. Food is well priced and they have a variety of salads, wraps, smoothies, juices, etc. Their croissants are nice and buttery(which as a personal trainer I wouldn’t recommend, but as a foodie I would). Their omelettes are more like scrambles but still satisfying. I’m interested in trying out their juices and their wraps(just as big as the ones at equinox and slightly cheaper). The only downfall is that they close at 3pm.

This is a hidden gem of a café tucked away behind a corporate office. I’ve been there a couple times for their sandwiches/paninis which are delicious. Sandwich Spot and Ravioli House have good sandwiches too, don’t get me wrong, but I often find they are too big/heavy for lunch on the average day. Nice staff: offered samples of the specials. The sandwiches here are perfect for a lighter/medium appetite, leaving you satisfied and full, but not bloated and asking yourself«Why did I force myself to finish that…» The last time I was here with coworkers it was a little closer to 2pm on a Tuesday, and the staff offered free samples of their specials that day(grilled tri-tip, either in sandwich form or over rice). They also had a Greek lemon soup with rice which they also let us sample. Both were quite good and flavorful so I ended up getting the sandwich(obviously, because I am a sandwich fiend) with a small soup. The tri-tip in larger quantity was a little bit dry, but still delicious. Sandwich, soup, and chips — I’m not sure anything else makes a perfect lunch.

Family owned & operated. Amjad is such a kind guy who is all about pleasing his customers. My office is located in this building so I frequent Café 400 for a quick lunch or when I forget to eat breakfast. Smoothies — Fantastic & fresh! Sandwiches — Yummy! I love the San Mateo Sandwich on Dutch Crunch bread(Turkey, Bacon, Avocado). They also have a killer Cashew Chicken Sandwich(Chicken Salad Sandwich with cashew pieces) that I like on their tortillas. Breakfast Burritos — Filling with a ton of flavor. You can get them with sausage, bacon, or avocado if I remember correctly. Contains potatoes, eggs, and they can make it spicy with their yummy sauce(not quite sure what it is but thumbs up). Catering — We often have meetings in our office upstairs that requires food. I just let Amjad know what I need and he makes it happen. Just be sure to give him as much notice as possible. Customer Service — Everyone is so kind and accommodating. I have never walked in without seeing a smile on all of their faces. I truly feel like i’m coming home to family every time I come. Highly recommended for a quick lunch from wonderful people. They have breakfast burritos, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, wraps, salads, a fridge with a bunch of different beverages and even daily specials(like pulled pork or mujudara).

Owner is very friendly. But they usually burn my sandwich. The main reason to go to this place is for the convenience(I work in the same building). Otherwise, there are much better restaurants in San Mateo downtown.

I wish they had later hours but I guess they cater more towards the normal non startup employees of the Chicago Title building. A quick/convienet place to get beverages if you dont want to cross El Camino into downtown. I’ve never had the food but it seems to have some favor with many of the locals when reading the other reviews

So this place isn’t a high end restaurant, but it makes some pretty good eats and the staff is amazing! I eat here at least once a week, usually more. It’s a great place to get a quick bite, either a sandwich, salad or a nice hot lunch plate. The lunch specials change every day and they have a good selection of chips, drinks, fruit, even hard boiled eggs if you like. And the crew behind the counter is wonderful. They not only know me by name, but the great everyone with a smile and excellent service. I love this place and I *really* love them.

can’t believe there such a little good café hiding at the corner between the office building & the parking lot. Food are freshly made, and menu changes everyday. Reasonalbe price for a below-average-salary worker like me. I feel much better after having their hot soup in a crazy cold morning…

Thank you, Café 400, for allowing me to eat a proper lunch 3 – 4 times a week. If it weren’t for you and your rotating lunch specials, I would mostly likely be confined to the one thing I know how to make: PB&J sandwiches. Café 400, you are my noontime hero.

There aren’t very many sandwich places in the area, so this is my go to when I’m in the mood for deli food. It is a family-owned business and the people who work there are very nice. They seem to know many of their customers by name and make an effort to be friendly and helpful to everyone. I also like that they have a large variety of beverages, chips, and candy, plus there is a spot to eat outside.

Pretty sub-standard food for the price you pay, a 6 bucks or so for California which vanishes in less than 5 minutes for me — better off taking the hike to the subway on 3rd ave which at the very least has fresh stuff The bread often times has been stale, avocados over-ripened, pushy to get more always. Of the 4 – 5 times I ate here(I dont judge from the first thing I eat) — found a strand of hair in my food as well. Mujadara(on Fridays) — you really need to go out someplace and see how well it is made — with some salt for starters. All in all — this business survives only because good people of 400 S El Camino real cannot walk out due to a busy day. I rather starve than eat here.

what luck! we move to an apartment nearby during house renovations, and out our window we spy one of those european ice cream signs — the window says Cafe400 — AWESOME! Very convenient for morning coffee, great for lunch — have yet to try the turkey on Tuesday, turkey is not my favorite, but everything else I’ve tried is great. My favorite is grilled eggplant and peppers on sourdough — mmmmmmmmm — just had one, and I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s! I bring my child sometimes, and no one gives me a dirty look — a definite plus(the café is associated with a business building) — and the outside shady seating is nice if it is less than 80 °F outside and you put your back to the parking lot — 5 stars for convenience, tasty food, nice employees and customers see you tomorrow, Amjad!

A place to grab a quick sandwich from their standard menu. They have a daily special(typically a freshly prepared warm dish such as lasagna), Tuesday’s are popular for Turkey(white and dark meat) and chicken gyros. I’m not a fan of their ‘cold’ selection i.e. tuna/chicken salad. Otherwise a fairly standard café, no surprises here.

The hot spot for lunch for the 400 El Camino crew. Amjad’s a friendly guy, and does great things with Turkey Tuesdays. The egg n’ cheese bagel in the morning is a favorite, too.
