It has been a year since I first met Lulu and I am so glad I did. She is very warm and welcoming and friendly. She provides attentive and efficient service and a salon quality haircut for a fraction of what I paid elsewhere. You can’t beat the quality and the value.

Great service, the two women who work here are friendly & professional, the price on par with other SM barbers. They keep the shop clean, it has that old Barber shop look.

I just got out of here for my first time and I’m very satisfied with the cut and beard trim I just got from Lili(hope I spelled her name correctly!). Most important thing to me is whether someone knows how to cut thin but curly hair. A lot of places either want to buzz it all off or straighten it. Not here though… She used scissors only and cut off my damaged ends and then layered. Exactly right! The beard trim was using a little buzzer, which worked out fine. Nothing fancy there. If nothing else, if you’re worried about whether they can handle curly hair and make it into a good look for a professional man? They can!

Don’t be fooled by the name of the shop — the previous owner, Bob, sold the place a long time ago and it’s Lulu’s shop now. Lulu does a high quality job for a very decent price. Check out the cool antique cash register too.

After many failed attempts at finding a place to get a decent haircut, I finally found my way here. Told LuLu what I wanted and she didn’t disappoint. Will definitely be coming back here. A simple shop for a great haircut.

This is a small little shop with 2 great barbers, Lulu and Lily. Lily did a great job on my son’s haircut– exactly how he asked for it. Only 15.00 for a kid’s cut. Will be back!

Small, unassuming shop on 25th in San Mateo. But I definitely found my new barbershop after moving here from L.A. I wanted a simple taper with a hard part, and got exactly what I was looking for! The price is only $ 20(cash only, btw)…Much cheaper than the higher end shops here in San Mateo, but equal or better quality. I gotta be honest, I didn’t even catch my barber’s name since I was in a bit of a rush and had some other things on my mind(tho I believe it may be the same Lulu from the other review on here). Like I said, this will be my go-to shop from now on.

For those who are confused by the two separate entries for the same business, namely ‘Bob’s Barber Stylist’, please note that one refers to an old business which has in fact changed hands last year. The new owner, for various reasons, has decided to keep the same name. Instead of Bob, we now have Lulu holding fort. I have never met the previous barber/owner Bob, so cannot use him as a point of reference for this review. But the new owner, Lulu, is an excellent barber. My first visit to her was some 3 months ago. Having received less than satisfactory haircuts from a few other 5-star barbershops in San Mateo, I was frankly both weary and skeptical when I decided to give Lulu a try. In order to minimize whatever insults that an unfamiliar barber might inflict on my hair, I stressed to Lulu that I only wanted a trim, and I also roughly outlined the overall shape I was after. I was pleasantly surprised when Lulu, after cutting lightly on just one side of my hair, took a mirror to it and asked me to confirm if this was the length I wanted. She said she would then use that length as the yardstick for the rest of the haircut. Suffice it to say no other barber has ever taken the trouble to do that with me before. This little gesture gave me the confidence that Lulu most likely knew what she was doing, so I proceeded to relax! I did in fact walk out with a pretty good haircut 20 minutes later, but the truth be told, relative to some of the excellent haircuts I used to get in San Francisco, I felt there was a bit of room for improvement still. To be sure, upon finishing with me, Lulu was most proactive in getting my feedback on the result. I did my best to suggest a few(fairly minor) areas of possible refinement. Lulu listened to me attentively. Having given Lulu an A minus on her first try, I made my second visit to the shop a few weeks later. This time, as soon as I started to explain what sort of haircut I wanted, Lulu jumped in and surprised me with her excellent recall of what I had said of my previous haircut. So my second haircut came out a definite A. Long story short, I just had my fourth visit to Lulu, and this time I did not even have to remind Lulu at all of what I was after, and I happily walked out with a A++ haircut! I am thankful to have finally found my barber in San Mateo!
