Treff’s Tavern

Good local place. Had confusion with my tabs and the manager took her time to sort it out.

I just went there today and there was a huge sign above the bar saying $ 8 domestic pitchers during happy hour with a specified happy hour time of «open — 8pm». I was charged $ 12 and politely asked them to correct the situation. The manager stated that she would give us a free shot for the 50% up charge, blaming the situation on a computer issue. I didn’t want shots at 3:30pm on a sunday. I just wanted to get charged the price displayed. No more no less. The owner of the bar wanted to give me a beer as compensation which I denied. His argument was that there were signs promoting $ 2 you call it nights and that the sign only applied to those days. Nowhere on the small signs he was showing as proof said anything about domestic pitchers. Furthermore, the sign above the bar said nothing about the special applying only to «$ 2 you call it days». Again, i just asked that I get charged the advertised price. The owner ended up kicking us out and refusing to correct the obvious issue. I never raised my voice or got rowdy. The owner even admitted himself that he was wrong, and tried to remedy their 50% up charge with one beer. Very disrespectful staff and the bar tender working was in serious need of a personality. The bar smelled of stale beer and the bar just looked dirty. Empty kegs were stored under customer seating. The bar owner claimed to have 19 years experience, but his bar reflected otherwise. It had the atmosphere of a funeral service and a walmart bathroom. Save yourself the trouble and go literally anywhere else.

I would definitely love to give Treff’s more stars but to myself it is a solid 3.5.
This was my second visit to Treff’s because the first time i had been there i did not have a great experience. However, I am a big fan a second chances because who knows what might had been going on that night.
The drink prices are very reasonable. Whiskey Sours only $ 3.50 and then they have some killer drink specials during the week I believe on Sundays and Tuesdays they have –You — Call — Its– for only $ 2!
The upstairs bar area has a bunch of darts to play and even a pac-​man arcade game to entertain with.
As for this little dive, I would return.

Nice place. I’m an out of towner and the staff made me feel at home. Good atmosphere, plus $ 2.00 u call it’s not too shabby! I’ll be back!

$ 2 you-​call nights are always good on Tuesday. Plus they also do it occasionally for like a week, which is nice. Other than that the prices are a bit pricey!
Saying/​knowing that though… I know the owner personally and he’s a good guy and extremely hilarious and loves to make sure that you’re having a good of a time as he is! So I hope you can hold your own if he starts buying you shots! Hahaha

Love this place. Great service and great environment. Friendly staff that I got to hang out with during the tailgate. Really recommend stopping in here. Especially when it’s 2 dollar u call its. All week long! Also wonderful manager, I met her at FedEx a couple weeks ago and she is very friendly and does a great job at making you feel welcome! Great Manager to have Mr. Treff!

As a graduate of Texas State, I lived up the street from Treff’s & spent moderate amount of time & money here. Great little place. A toss between «dive» & «college bar», this establishment has cheap drink specials & the students know it! Beer selection is moderate, but for a college hangout there’s a few local & craftbeers in the mix of domestic «moneymaker» beers.
The bar gets super busy, especially during «$ 2 Tuesdays» when everything is $ 2 & I mean EVERYTHING! With other various specials during the week, this is a must if you’re a student looking to have a good time & stretch you’re student loan/​scholarship/​college fund/​or emergency credit card that mom gave you just a little more…

Monday: $ 5 Pitcher Beer Night
Tuesday: $ 2 You Call It
Cool joint, cheap drinks and usually always pretty full inside. Oh yeah, and Happy Hour starts Early @ 2pm. Parking is a little limited but there is more behind Grins.
Good place if you just wanna get away from the Square or try something different.

So I went here on a Saturday.
The inside was wayyyy too loud, and very little people were inside.
Their selection of beers was so/​so, although I had heard that they had more than what they actually had.
The parking lot was awful. Construction going on and one way in and out. Only about 10 – 13 cars could park and you can forget it if you’re driving a truck, as the guy driving a f250 found out after hitting the parked Mercedes.
Not a great place for a huge group of people, but not bad for a San Marcos bar.
When visiting just be wary of the parking lot and crazy drivers.

So I’m usually at Treff’s on Tuesdays for $ 2 you-​call-​its (best deal on the best night to go) but tonight was a friend’s birthday & she wanted to have a few drinks there before heading to Austin.
Well, as usual, we squished into a parking spot in the front of the tavern, walked in and sat at an open bar stool. I ordered an Ace pear cider and started chatting with friends while the jukebox was going with a vast array of music choices! Thats the beauty of a jukebox and I love the diversity!
Okay so I decided to check in (via Unilocal) and saw that they had an offer for $ 2 drinks which really excited me because it wasn’t a Tuesday & I still could get some $ 2 drinks? HELL YEAH!
WELLLLLLL… it was more like a HELLLLLL NO because the bartender didn’t allow me to redeem my deal. He even said he texted the owner and that the owner had no idea what kind of deal I was talking about? Well, the offer is still open on my Unilocal app and I plan to find the owner next time I’m at the bar & ask him about it because that offer didn’t magically come to be!!!
Anyway, yes Treff’s is a super chill, casual and cool bar but they lost some points with not accepting my Unilocal offer (I mean that’s what the offers are there for hellloooooo)!! Guess I’ll stick to only going in on Tuesdays…

This is the first bar I went to in San Marcos, and it will be the only one I come back to. I have had too many good times here with friends and family. It is not one of those college bars where all the frat bros go to pick up chicks and act righteous. This is the place to go and hang out, have some very reasonably priced drinks, and shoot the s**t. I love treffs and all of their very loyal staff. Keep up the good work!

I’m here just about every Wednesday for trivia, and it makes me love them all the more for hosting such a fun experience. They always have specials wednesdays, including $ 3.50 LITs and other beer specials.
If you just turned 21 and want to party/​jam out to techno music/​act like a child, go somewhere else. This is a bar for grown people, laid-​back people. It’s mostly populated by grad students, non-​students, students who hate the Square, and a few older folks. Bartenders are nice and knowledgeable but not overly chatty, the way I like ‘em. Beisdes trivia, they also host UFC fight nights and dart tournaments. Gordo’s is right next door and will deliver to you while you’re in Treff’s for no extra charge. The place is kinda dirty, though.
For a smokey, chill atmosphere away from obnoxious undergrads, go to Treff’s.

Do you like beer? Do you like cheap beer, maybe in place with a fun, sport bar feel? Treff’s is your place.
What they do, they do well. Not for those San Marcians looking for the club-​like atmosphere of bars along the square. Put away your dress shoes if headed to Treff’s.
Trivia nights every Wednesday at 8 and Treff’s two-​floor, club house design takes some of the testosterone out of this sports bar in a good way, attracting groups of ladies as well as lads.
Non-​beer drinker? Try the Long Island Ice Tea. Well-​made here and cheap.

I love this bar! Great place to belly up and have some cold ones. They also offer trivia, poker, and photo hunt!
