Talk about delicious. I’m a huge BBQ fan and this was one of the best all around experiences I’ve had. We had turkey, brisket and sausage, with green beans, firecracker corn, baked beans and potato salad. Everything was nice and hot, and just delicious. To top it all off, this is the best bang for the buck BBQ you will come across in the Austin area.

I was concerned tonight when I heard manager Chris say they rent the dishwasher so serving utensils have to be hand washed in the greasy sink water instead of being sanitized in the dishwasher. He says they don’t want to go over on their minutes… It costs more. I think all the sides are bland and generic. The meat is smoky-good. Knowing how unsanitary it is, however, I won’t be back. Hey, manager Chris. Next time you tell icky secrets to your kitchen staff, please speak softly so you don’t run your customers off. I’m really grossed out.

Ok, so I’ve been going to Fuschaks for a little while now, ever since the 35 location opened. I used to go very often for lunch, as in at least once a week. Back then it was priced on point and the quality of food and flavor wasn’t too bad. I will be honest, I went because it wasn’t too far from my work and it wasn’t fast food. Over the years they have definitely declined. Not only has the quality gone down, as in overly fatty and greasy chopped beef but it is for sure overpriced for what it is. I now go once every 3 months at the most and every time I do, I wonder why I went back. I feel that with great quality of food from Hays county being across the highway, they should at least keep their prices down to attract people. The only reason I’m giving them two stars is because they probably have my favorite sweet tea.

Pork ribs are delicious. However, the food is actually extremely overpriced considering I also work at a BBQ place with quality meat served at a reasonable price. but the prices here are not even close to being reasonable. I also tried the baked potato and it was really good and fulfilling but very greasy, to the point I was worried about my car seats getting stained. 3⁄5 for the pricing and greasy baked potatoes. all in all, it’s good BBQ

Got a loaded baked potato w/Brisket. Nice sized potato, couldn’t finish it in one setting! Was very good although could have used a little bit more flavor.

I grew up on their BBQ chopped beef sandwiches and there is no better. I‘ve only had the sandwiches, whole chicken and sausage all of which I love and a great bargain. I consider the BBQ sandwiches comfort food. The sausage is generic but you can really taste the smoke and the whole chicken is smokey moist goodness. maybe the rest of the food isn’t good… never tried it… but these 3 staples are awesome for the price.

Went to Fuschak’s for our traditional bags of small chopped beef sandwiches that we ALWAYS have for lunch on the Fourth of July, only to be told, «We aren’t doing those today.» Another family tradition, down the drain. Fuschak’s, you’ve broken my heart today. It’ll be a while before I can forgive you and come back. And if you ever stop doing those great bags of chopped beef sandwiches, I won’t be coming back at all.

I haven’t eaten there in 20 years but the last time I did, the word ‘potatoes’ was spelled wrong on the sign, and the cheese was *horrible* The BBQ was delicious though!

My in-laws are all in Lockhart, so I’m biased towards Chisolm Trail and Smitty’s… But for San Marcos, it isn’t bad. Haven’t tried anything besides the loaded baked potatoes w/brisket(no hot sauce tho). And for only $ 7, the potato is HUGE! My family eats a lot, and none of us can finish one on our own.

I stopped after work, my first visit, and bought brisket and beans to take home. Wow… the brisket is fan-freaking-tastic! Some of the best I’ve ever had. I got crisped ends and slices, and every bit of it was smoky and deliciously seasoned. I don’t usually get brisket at bbq joints because it can be very lean and dry and the seasoning just doesn’t penetrate the meat throughout. Not here! Props to the meat smoker, they definitely know what they’re doing. The beans were perfect too. I bought a half pound of the brisket to eat on over the weekend, ha, fat chance. I started eating it, could not stop and polished off all of it!

We came here after is was suggested by several friends. I wasn’t disappointed. I got the sausage and brisket plate, both were excellent. I can be picky about both. It’s a lot of food too do its a great deal. I would say it’s pretty standard as far a BBQ places go in Texas. I didn’t find the sauce all that special but the flavor of the meat really didn’t even need it. I would eat here again.

Loved my «loaded potato» the turkey was tender and it was well worth the the price considering the quantity. The brisket lacked flavor. The potato salad was disappointing in that it was all mayonnaise and potatoes you could not taste any onion or other add ons. The chopped barbecue sandwich was on the softest bun ever! The staff was polite and we enjoyed seeing them interact with what was clearly a regular customer. I personally did not try it but the husband says the firecracker corn was great.

Like most people have said, the place is ‘aight. The meat isn’t too special, mostly because it lacks bold flavor and real tenderness. Fortunately, the banana pudding is delicious, something that’s pretty easy to make. The chicken is also pretty good.

Today was my first visit to this restaurant. I had the brisket plate with beans and potato salad. The food was good… not spectacular… but good. The staff, however, was borderline rude. We were the only ones in the restaurant(I guess they had just opened for the afternoon) and therefore the only ones in line. My dau-in-law and her mom were trying to figure out their order for 6 people… pointing at the menu, discussing sides, etc. The person taking the orders said«I can take the next order» not once, not twice, but three times. They weren’t holding anyone up and it wasn’t like they were in line gossiping and goofing off. They were CLEARLY discussing their order. My son politely hushed her nagging… but it really put most of us off. So…good(not great… just good) food… borderline rude staff. I would think I would need to return a few more times before I either condemn or recommend this establishment. Sherry

I had family visiting from Portland on Saturday before school started Wanted to go to Saltgrass but they had a 2 hour wait. jumped. on Unilocal and found this joint. the guy said they had no wait and could accommodate a party of 10. got to this dive at 730 on Saturday eveninv. the sign on the door said they closed at 9. ok… all of us ordered. all we got from the dude at the counter was«we ar e sold out of this and the and this and that». We finally got our order of stale cold dry end cut meat and cold tasteless side dishes. so then we needed a couple tables pulled together to accommodate the family. the floor guy said we couldn’t pull tables together because it would block the isle. so as we are waiting on our food the manager comes out and says that they don’t have enough meat left to give us the 83 meat plates we ordered but refused to give us a refund because he had to reduce the 3 meat plates to 2 meat plates. he offered to give us a free helping of totally gross chocolate pudding. THISPLACESUCKSANDTHESTAFFISRUDEANDUNACCOMODATING. T he food was aweful and it was a horrible experience. I was so embarrassed that my aunt and uncle from Oregan had to be subjected to such a bad place. we should have waited the 2 hours for a table at Saltgrass. don’t go to this place ITTRULYSUCKS. And to top it all off they got the plates and orders wrong. plus the fact that we all. ordered ice tea and we all ended up drinking water because all the tea containers were empty. we also had to dig through the silverware bin because most of the forks and knives were dirty and caked with dry food. my 80 yr old aunt got a dirty glass for her tea that had lipstick remains on it. My wife and I went there today. I had two meat combo plate, brisket(dry), sausage(ok), my wife had the turkey combo. The Turkey was very good and juicy, the sides were good, firecracker corn was good also. The pudding was, well it would be best just to go to H E B and buy instant pudding. The main problem I had was the prices, they were I felt high for the portions you receive and quality of the food. I was surprised also that it was extra to get a to go order. Probably won’t go back.

The meats are ok– very tender and an ok flavor, however the sides are very bland– no flavor. I ordered a brisket plate came with 2 sides and a bread $ 8.99 plus $ 1.89drink This bbq rest. needs an ingredient called love and flavor.

Attended a UT event this week on campus where they catered for about 2000 people. For that size of crowd was impressed by brisket. Nice peppery outside char and smoke ring, very well done. They were slicing brisket as you went thru the line, combining it with sausage in a large tray where you served yourself, so no dried out, heat lamped meat. Sausage was tasty with standard sides of pinto beans(good but needed a bit more seasoning), potato salad and cole slaw, both good, sauce not remarkable. But, way above average for such a large group feed, brisket was a 4 star, other items about 3.5, for solid 3.75 stars overall. Since they pulled that huge event off so well, would definitely be worth a visit to their place in San Marcos. Solid 3.75 stars out of 5.

Fuschak’s Pit Bar-B-Q was on the Texas Monthly honorable mention list back in 2008. So at one point, they were serving pretty good ‘cue. It has been a while since I have dropped in here. I remember the barbecue being above average. Fuschak’s does specials during the week and all you can eat is one of them. I passed on that because ribs are not a part of the buffet. Their name is misleading. If I saw pit in someone’s name, I would assume they are using a wood pit not a gas one. I eat a majority of my barbecue meals by myself. I actually like it. I get to order whatever I want and not get judged. I wanted to try the fajita meat, but they had run out for the day. I got the three meat plate with moist brisket, ribs, and four sides! I doubled up on coleslaw and also got pinto beans and potato salad. The brisket was surprisingly solid. It had a deep smoke flavor with a decent peppery bark. The fat could have been rendered a little bit longer because the brisket was a little chewy. I wished that they trimmed the fat better and not slice with the grain too. The pork ribs were smoky and tender. They were a little dry, but I enjoyed them. It had a nice flavor from the rub. The sausage was a blend made for them was not bad. A commercial sausage is a commercial sausage though. They are all the same for the most part. Good but not great. The coleslaw was okay. The beans and potato salad were good. The roll that came with the meal was also really good. Fuschak’s is a good option for barbecue in San Marcos. I think a lot of people have forgotten about them. Directly across the interstate lies Hays County BBQ. They are better choice, but you still cannot go wrong with Fuschak’s. They also have a thing on their menu that is called the Barburito. It is a burrito with brisket instead of picadillo. I will be back to try that and the fajita meat. The prices are affordable as well.

9÷29÷1311:38am — Heading back from the deer lease to Houston, I wanted to swing through Lockhart for lunch. My daughter insisted on Chick-fil-a and pointed out everyone on the way. The last one she pointed out we near Fuschak’s. It got Honorable Mention in Texas Monthly 2008 and has been in business since 1966. I scored Fuschak’s a 78 out of 100. This is Regional Texas BBQ. Smoke: Witness stacks of oak. Previous reviews mention both oak and mesquite. There is a screened in smoke house in the back. Unfortunately its full of Olé Hickory gassers. Brisket: Good. A ¼in dark red smoke ring beneath a substantial black bark. Thin sliced with just the right amount of smoke. Tough of tender and finished a little dry. Overall flavor was pleasant with slight salty rub. use the sauce because of the dryness. Ribs: Very Good. Big meaty spare ribs. Tender soft bite with slight dirty bone. A great black pepper rub and strong salty pork flavor. No sauce needed. Sausage: Fair. A grease bomb. A course ground pork link with traditional spice and strong salt. Mild after taste. Use the sauce and plenty of napkins to clean up the grease explosion. Sauce: Good. A bit strange. It was thick dark brown and sweet. Had strong butter, onion, brown sugar and molasses flavor. It was clumpy and sticky. Not a signature sauce. PS: Portions are insane! Four sides with my 3 meat plate! I packed a serious to go box.
