Salon Lux and Spa

Came here this past weekend to get my hair blown out & styled for a wedding. I had an idea of what I wanted, a combination of 2 hairstyles I saw on pinterest. Based on the photos and what were probably pretty vague instructions from me, Shelby did a great job and my hair looked perfect. I got compliments from people all night long and felt amazing. The massage was also a nice surprise. It’s a shame that I live across the country or else I would definitely be going back!

Make an appointment with Taylor! SHE IS AWESOME! Salon Lux is the best hair experience I have ever had! So professional, calming and enjoyable! You get tea/​beverage, complimentary massage, really nice aromatherapy oils, amazing scalp massage during your hair wash and the stylists are well trained and do a great job! I was so pleased with my wash, cut, blow out and straightening and IT ONLY COST $ 40!!! Taylor spent 2.5 hours on my hair and it was $ 40! Bless her heart I gave that girl a good tip for all her work :)

Saw Natalie yesterday for the first time, (on a Sunday and got me in,) Best cut ever, did exactly what I wanted. Got up this morning, didn’t even need to fix my hair, still looked awesome. Big thanks Natalie. Will definitely see you again.

I truly enjoy this salon. I love my hairdresser Taylor. She is always on time, she takes time to find out what I want, not what she thinks I need! Which I have had happen at other salons. Very clean, great products, etc. in the middle of downtown SLO!

All of the staff is very friendly as soon as you walk in the door, and the salon has a very cool, fresh vibe. I was offered a drink while I waited for my stylist to be ready. My stylist was Taylor and she gave me by far the best experience I’ve ever had at a hair salon. She explained everything she was going to do with my hair every step of the way and was very attentive when I explained what I wanted, and even offered some suggestions when I wasn’t sure what direction to go in. I’m always very nervous about getting my hair cut because I’ve had my share of stylists who aren’t really sure how to go about dealing with my thick, long hair. Taylor was very knowledgable and honest and I felt very comfortable once she started cutting. I’m in love with my hair cut and will definitely be returning to this salon. $ 40 is a little pricey for a college student, but it was worth every penny!

Maggie is the BEST! This was my first trip here and it was fabulous! The salon smells wonderful, as most Aveda salons do. Maggie started with a relaxing mint oil scalp massage. I then shared with her what type of cut and style I wanted and showed her some pictures. I also explained to her that I didn’t want to do anything that my emphasize my round face or make my fine hair look even more limp. She was honest and I found that refreshing stylist. I instantly knew I could trust her.
She began the cut while my hair was dry. This technique allowed her to cut some great layers. After the shampoo she continued to cut layers and I even took the plunge into getting bangs. They turned out great. She knew just how to shape them so they framed my face. I felt ten pounds lighter when all was said and done. My hair finally had some life in it!
Now, you always look and feel great when you leave a salon, but can you replicate the style? Yes! The way Maggie cut my hair has made styling effortless. I’m very grateful! She is the best!

Cool vibe but overrated, ended up paying a small fortune for a trim and it looked like the girl Lauren didn’t even do anything

First of all, I always go to Lindsay for haircuts and I just love her! She has given me the best hair cuts I’ve ever had and she so sweet and easy to talk to!
I recently got married and Marissa and her crew did the hair and makeup for me and my bridesmaids. Everyone looked so beautiful and I loved my hair and makeup so much! They were great to work with and so sweet. I would highly recommend Salon Lux to anyone!

Always love the work Nikole does. She is great at listening to what I want and she is has the best attitude.

I want to commend Mackenzie. Hands down the best customer service I have received at a Salon. I reached out to book an appointment in the future, and she was more than happy to let me know the availability and was able to find me a spot that works around my schedule. A very revitalizing experience, and it is much appreciated. Keep up the good work, I look forward to having you continue to be my stylist. Woo-​hoo!

I would love to give this shop 5 solid stars because on most points they ROCK! But there is one important issue that the owner needs to address… First the good: This is a professional Aveda salon; lovely herbal smells greet your nose rather than perm solution or hair spray. The front desk is friendly, and plenty of well displayed product, although it is a bit pricey. Lindsey, my stylist, is well trained and listens to what I want for cut as well as color. I have never been disappointed. I have also seen beautiful work by other stylists here, for short and long styles. Now the bad: Flies! The flying insect kind are SWARMING in the middle of the shop! Most times I have been here there has been only one or two flying around but today I am counting probably 20 or more! Gross and disgusting! The front desk says they have asked and the owner hasn’t given them instructions on how to address the problem. (I guess it’s not very Aveda to spray Raid) But how about a citronella candle or essential oil? This is a cleanliness issue. Get rid of the flies!

Very accommodating and friendly service. Annie was very attentive to our needs and did everything to make our visit pleasant. Prices were great and we would definitely come back!!!

Lady I had was very rude and acted like she didn’t want to do my hair. I also wanted to be a blonde all over and ended up with black and yellow streaked highlights !!! Very bad service and WAY too expensive. Not going back. Don’t recommend it.

I have thick, curly, hard to manage hair and all of the stylists who have worked with me have done an amazing job. The color work is phenomenal and all of the girls are so nice! Whenever anyone asks where they should get their hair done I refer them here. The service is unparalleled!

Had to wait until my rage subsided to write this review. I travel and as a consequence have the pleasure of visiting many Aveda Concept Salons around the nation always 5 star treatment, service, and quality. That is until I was in SLO. Worst hair cut of my life. I was forced to walk out mid service because the arrogant stylist insisted she knew the cut I wanted and continued to hack at my hair (although I asked her repeatedly to stop) cutting off almost 3 inches and ruining the line of my haircut (styled at another salon). BEWARE if an arrogant stylist that doesn’t listen is what you want then this is the salon for you. BTW, no call to apologize even though they have my number. A mess that will take over a year of growth to fix. I am writing Aveda about the service at this salon.

Just had an amazing blowout by Taylor, I feel amazing! Thank you! being a hairstylist it’s almost impossible to find time for yourself, but she made me so relaxed and and made me feel fabulous!

I have had so many bad experiences with hairstylists that I dread getting my haircut. Thankfully I met Janelle and she does an amazing job on my hair. She listens to me and doesn’t just hack my hair and leave me with a Dumb and Dumber haircut. I appreciate her feedback and trust her suggestions. My haircuts are now girlfriend approved and I couldn’t be happier with Janelle’s work.

This place is great!
I had my hair cut by Lindsay and it was amazing. I have curly, extremely thick hair and she had no problem managing it… I didn’t think a hair cut could make my hair so much more controllable, but now I have no problem doing it in 10 minutes tops in the morning.
I’ve also had my hair dyed by for the first time here and it was great. I was nervous, but everyone is extremely professional and you get a head and hand massage every time you go in. What could be better than that?!
I would HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who was in the area.

Hey y’all, check out a newer stylist at Lux, Chelsea Duclos! I got my hair cut by her today and she was one of the most attentive stylists I’ve ever had, really really listened to what I wanted and followed through with each of the important things I mentioned — bangs, piecyness, shorter bits in the front, able to wear it straight or curly, the right length. She’s super professional, friendly, passionate about what she does, has a great understanding of style, and has super affordable rates. (This coming from someone that works retail, not a 9−5er that makes over 30k a year and affordable means under a hundred. It’s actually affordable.) If you want a haircut you like, don’t want to go broke, and want the pampering of a full-​service salon, call to book your appointment with Chelsea now! You won’t regret it.
p. s. she also gave me an awesome scalp massage /​oil treatment too! such a gem.
p.p.s I give the salon 4 stars not because of Chelsea — she gets 5 — but because in the past, circa 2009, I had inconsistently good /​bad haircuts from a stylist with realllllly high rates. This particular stylist doesn’t work there anymore. But just so y’all know, that’s why it’s a 4 out of 5. Okay bye! :)
