This isn’t PF Changs or Mr. Chows, and far from authentic chinese. This place is the closest I’ve had to NYC chinese food. It might even be better. Everything tastes and feels fresh. No oily rice or sodium rich sauces. Definitely my go to from now on. Just wish it was open till midnight.

We just got takeout and got home and realized they didn’t give rice with a dinner order… this is standard at… every …Chinese restaurant. So they either forgot or… you pay extra meaning it would be 17 $ total… a bit expensive for rice and chicken… also the guy wasn’t too friendly… food looks great but… I doubt I’ll go back… there are plenty of places to go to… and I kinda wanted my rice, ya know? Major bummer. Too bad. If the guy even said hi or hello I would have come back and just brushed it off as an… it happens sometimes kinda thing. Lame place… choose another!

Best veggie chow mein in the east bay! Often times this dish tastes so bland, but at Hunan it’s just right! Garlic broccoli and veggie fried rice is also really good.

Honey walnut prawns were so gross. I think they used spoiled ingredients or something because I have never had such a terrible experience eating these. I couldn’t even finish my plate. SO disappointed. I immediately got a stomach ache afterwards, and the price was hefty.

I read the reviews and was impressed enough to take a chance with Hunan. Was I surprised First, yes the parking in the rear was a big plus. I enter the restaurant and a very cold reception Ordered Kung Pau chicken with extra veggies and extra spicy. I was told no problem with the requests and the order was promptly served. I was expecting a fresh, hot and spicy dish and what I got was soggy, tepid and a mildly spicy dish. No one stopped by to check how the food was. Even the hot oil chili sauce on the table was not spicy ! Overall a poor experience in terms of the service and quality of food and I am not sure about the value for money either. At best a one star.

I called to place a to-go order and the gentleman that answered the phone was very polite. We ordered the following: Beef chow fun in black bean sauce: This was my favorite out of all the dishes we ordered, I would def get this again. Sauteed green beans: They were fresh and crunchy… I enjoyed this dish. Mongolian beef: This dish was ok, the beef seemed to have alot of fat which I did not like. I would skip this next time. Kung Pao chicken extra spicy: Lots of veggies, but where was the chicken? and it wasn’t spicy at all, but the flavor of this dish was pretty tasty. Potstickers: This was my favorite of all. I would def get this again. When I arrived to pick up my food it was ready and the gal that helped me was really nice. Overall, I would come back and try different items. There is parking in the back!

After having watched«The Search of General Tso», I’ve been on a kick and a journey of my own to find the perfect or my favorite«General Tso» chicken. I stumbled upon Hunan Restaurant as it populated on finds for local Chinese/American restaurants in Hayward Area. The overall 4 star reviews looked promising and albeit, so did the pictures. I ordered the chili fried wings, the dried fried string beans, and house chow mein. I was disappointed with the wings as it was a bit undercooked with pinks meat near the bones and bit over breading. The strings beans was prepped with pork which was delicious and had a kick of spice to it. The house chow mein was standard nothing spectacular but still good nonetheless. The price of the three items amounted to a little under $ 30, a lot more expected for a local mom and pop shop. Final verdict, will keep Hunan Restaurant as a maybe option for my next Chinese /American food fix but probably would not go out of my way to visit again.

I’ve order 4x and every time has been a great experience. All my orders have been to go, but because the customer service is great when ordering over the phone and at restaurant I bet dinning in wont be any different, most importantly the food is so fresh and service is fast. The portions are priced just right each entrée can feed up to 2 at the most 3 people(depends how hungry) No long waits and food is always hot. This is not a negative but I did wish they had a collaboration with EAT24. My husband and I are always very busy and the EAT24 makes it easy for me. Not a big deal it’s worth the drive.

Over 20 yrs in business is great and I see why! Take out is the way to go! Sit in is fne, but I see they do a huge amount of take out. How this is helpful.

I’m going to take a guess here. They advertise on their menu that they don’t MSG in their food. I believe them. MSG puts me into sleepy time and after a full meal here, including soup, I was still wide awake. The dishes that we had were pretty good. The stand out was the Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings. It seems to me that they add a little bit more sugar to their dishes to help their flavors pop, which is what MSG is often used for.

I have been coming here for years… since I was a child. I have to have this place at least once a week! My go to is the spicy fried vegetable rice, crab puffs, honey walnut prawns, lemon chicken, mandarin chicken and chow fun! So yummy! There are days where it can be hit or miss tho, meaning the chef might be a little off here or there not often! but I didn’t discredit there stars for it because they’re the only place I will ever go to for my Chinese food as well as I can count on one hand how many times I was a little disappointed. Mind you I’m 27 and have been coming here since middle school! Bottom line BESTCHINESEFOOD in Hayward/San Lorenzo.

(Got it for my sister, so I’m stemming off of her opinion) Cheap, delicious, an abundant amount of vegetarian options! When I walked in to pick up her order I saw a sign that said, Low Sodium and no MSG used so that’s awesome!

Hunan chicken was mediocre. Let’s not talk about the Manchurian Beef special — more like hard, deep friend mystery meat. Really disappointed because of the high ratings this place has. The fried rice was a dark color, like I’ve never seen before. The soup and chow mein were good. Service was nice. Overall, wouldn’t recommend.

Quick, fast, affordable, and delicious. Made to order, tastes freshly cooked, and doesn’t have that overly greasy feeling. They accept a credit card and are located next to the hourly hotel that advertises private hot tub rooms, so if you’re ever over there and are hungry for something other than a hot tub experience, pick up some food here and bring it back to your room. Disclaimer: I was not at the hourly hotel with the private hot tub, but my GPS directions drove me right by their gigantic sign with neon lighting– so I figured it was worth mentioning. Lol Anyhow the food is standard Hunan options. They have lunch specials during the day and the family dinner meals at night starting at $ 9.99 per person which include the standard egg roll, soup, rice, and choice of entrée. We ordered the honey walnut prawns, house fried rice, house chow mein, salt n pepper porkchop, beef w scrambled egg and wonton soup. All were delicious and I’m bummed that I forgot to take pics of any of my food!!! Bill was $ 55, fed 5 and we had one to-go box. It’s because I was so busy having a conversation! Oh well, guess I gotta go back to order the same thing and take pics!

Very good chinese place. I usually take my orders to go because the eating space can be a little cramped. The owner is super nice and gave me a free order of mushu pork because they forgot to pack the sauce the last time I ordered it. Great value for the quality and amount of food your given. Definitely a must try is the sesame chicken. The sauce is not overwhelming like other Chinese restaurants tend to make it. I’ve tried other things from their menu and so far have not been disappointed.

Perfect for those nights when you really don’t know what to bring home for dinner. I usually call in my order and pick up 10 mins later on my way home from the office. My family and I have had nothing but good experiences with Hunan Restaurant. Only bummer? They’re closed Sundays. Items to definitely try: Beef with mixed veggies and the salt and pepper fish!

You shouldn’t expect to find authentic Chinese food outside of the Milpitas/San Jose/Fremont area. Which is why you have to think about Hunan Restaurant as Panda Express, but better. From that perspective, the food here is alright. It’s your typical Chinese fast food slathered in a too much sauce. Most dishes have veggies in them, so it’s not that unhealthy. The only problem is that sometimes they go overboard with the vegetables: our entire plate of twice-cooked pork had maybe three slices of pork in it. The rest of it was cabbage. Service was incomprehensibly fast — I don’t think we waited more than a few minutes after ordering. No idea how they managed that… not sure I want to know.

Great little spot in San Lorenzo, had the itch for Chinese food and decided to order out here. We ordered quite a few entrees and chow mien. Our favorite was the fried calamari with their spicy garlic sauce, a must have and great to use as a dip for most fried sides. I experimented with an eggplant dish that had a great taste but was slightly overcooked but was manageable. The chow mien noodles looked burnt, but didn’t have that rubber texture when you chewed it. Luckily that was for my 4 year old who can’t live without noodles or rice. The best dishes of the night had to be our seafood and veggie mix along with a beef stirfry, extra vegetables. Trying to live guilt free. We usually ask for extra veggies in most of our plates to begin with. In all we are treated great and food is always great. The main entrees are always good most of the discrepancies are minor to non existent. The older couple running this restaurant are always cordial and offered to help me out whenever I’m here with my kids, so polite and even on a rough day you’ll be at ease when you come in.

This is hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant in the East Bay. When I want to go somewhere to get a particular specialty item or otherwise, I may visit Oakland or San Francisco. But Hunan Restaurant does EVERYTHING I like really well. Some Highlight Food: — House Special Fried Rice, is among the best take-out Fried Rice I’ve ever had(5⁄5) — Dan Dan Noodles, Not my favorite, my wife gets this every single time.(4⁄5) — Sesame Chicken, I’m not even a fan of sweet/sour, but this is great.(5⁄5) — Ma Po Tofu, Bursting full of flavor and quality Tofu(5⁄5) Service is very great for a quick Chinese restaurant. Many mom and pop Chinese spots don’t have much care for service, but this place can go above and beyond. And the prices are very cheap for the amount you get. The only downside is probably the location/décor. Parking is a bit tough, and the inside is small and slightly dirty due to age. Ironically, these flaws are shared amongst all the top Chinese restaurants in the East Bay, so this might actually be a good thing!
