This really is some of the worst ‘Chinese’ food you could ever get. I would not recommend ever eating the food from here. It’s cheap for a really good reason, the service is awful, the quality of ingredients is terrible, and it’s just all round BAD. Avoid at all costs.

Terrible food! My usual place changed their hours and was no longer open. I really wanted wonton soup so decided to give this place a try since they left menus on our porch. Ordered a full dinner for my husband and I and everything was bad accept for the rice. I ordered honey walnut prawns(a favorite treat at other places). It was soggy friend shrimp in straight mayonnaise. Husband got chow fun and he said it wasn’t disgusting, but not good. We got the crab wonton’s but they neglected to tell us that an order of them would come for free so we ended up with 2 orders. These are incredibly fraudulent. There is basically ZERO filling in them! I got 2 orders of soup so I could eat the rest of it tomorrow and sadly it is terrible. It’s questionable dumplings in watered down soy sauce. I asked for rice for two(which is normally a single container) but they charged us for two huge containers of rice. Our order was over 40 $ and seriously we ate hardly any of it. Throwing out the menu and will not try this place again.

I thought I would order delivery service on Mothers Day instead of trying to get to a restaurant. Canton City was one of the restaurants in my delivery area. This was a mistake! When shrimp is fresh it’s not fishy. I ordered shrimp with black bean sauce(ugh); string beans with garlic sauce(the beans were partially raw, not crunchy); fried chicken wings(we only got the two smaller parts of the wing); and pork chow fun, which was just okay, not a lot of flavor. The free items were dry fried ribs(I really had no idea what this was) and some kind of crab appetizer which was so dried up there was no filling whatsoever. I can only say to some of these restaurants, «if you want our repeat business, send out good food.»

It’s just not that good at all. At least not what I ordered. My first order with them was to test the waters so to speak. To be fair, it was all hot and arrived on time and poilitely. After that, nothing else worked out… The potstickers were weirdly deep fried and, as a result, were chewy and had a very rubbery texture to them. There’s no reason to do potstickers like this. Bad start. The spring rolls were fried properly and were crispy and not greasy(which was good) but the filling was bland and was just a mishmash of things(which wasn’t good at all) and were disappointing. No crisp and fresh veggies as I expected to see, not a fresh tasting spring roll at all. No flavor to speak of. Strike two. The General’s Chicken was requested to be very spicy and was a little over mild at best. After that it was just gooey when it should have had a cripsy fried batter to it. The pieces were too large and there wasn’t that much of it in the order overall. The accompanying sauce was acceptable but the small order of chicken was just swimming in it. Not good and not worth having again. Strike three. Again, it just wasn’t that good from these guys. I ordered three things that should be solid at any Chinese place and I had a weird appetizer, a flavorless appetizer, and some gooey Generals Chicken. With tip it was about $ 24.00. Not a good deal at all. I won’t order from here again. Sorry guys. You need to step up your game significantly.

Well… this place is disgusting. Bland food. Although the orange chicken was a salt factory. Delivery took about two hours to get to the house and I actually had to call the restaurant to see if they’re actually coming. Definitely not worth the wait. I ate it because I was starving. Sad but true.

If I could give negative stars I would! First, our delivery order, which we were told would take 35 to 45 minutes, finally arrived after about an hour and a half. The food was of course barely lukewarm by that time. But that wasn’t the worst part: the«crab wontons» turned out to be completely devoid of any filling whatsoever, just folded up, empty, fried wonton wrappers. The orange chicken consisted of 6 huge globs of breading surrounding a few miniscule pieces of chicken meat, honestly I’ve never had orange chicken prepared that way. As if all this wasn’t disappointing enough, when my daughter called the restaurant to complain she was told«that’s just the way it is». What? Terrible service and worse food, will NEVER order from them again.

Very friendly staff, very dirty place. The food was okay. I like that they have kids working here, child labor is always a plus for me because I believe kids need structure. They also deliver and stay open pretty late which I also like. The prices are pretty good also.

I CRAVE this place. Anytime my boyfriend and I are hungry, we both say«Canton City?» at the same damn time. Not only is the food SO damn flavorful, but the girl and her dad whom I see every time I visit… have the best attitudes towards anyone who walks in. They always smile and welcome you and are happy to take your order and have it ready EVEN when you call moments before closing time. I definitely recommend this place. It’s more of a take out than a dine-in, but I still love it! Great food, great service, great family

Our usual choice for Chinese here closes early, so late last night we gave Canton City a try. After all, we had five copies of their menu dropped off on our doorstep in the two years we’ve been here. We were all hugely disappointed. First, to feed 4 who weren’t eating family style, we paid almost 3x what our usual takeout charges for those combination boxes. And for that we got: Potstickers that looked deep fried, but weren’t crispy like pan-fried potstickers, or soft & delicate like steamed ones. Soft and thick and chewy. And the filling was bland. The free crab wontons had hardly enough filling for anyone without a seafood allergy to identify them as «crab.» It was really more like eating fried wonton squares. Except for the last one I ate, which had that weird off taste that only comes from bad seafood. The eggs rolls were passable, not great, and the chow mein was fine. I’m told the kung pao shrimp was«acceptable, barely,» but the person who ordered it didn’t elaborate. The hunan beef was way, way sweeter than I expect even Americanized Chinese food to be, and not terribly spicy. This one was so bad I had to rescue cook it(rinsed of the sauce, recook the beef, bamboo shoots, water chestnut, & whole chilis with sesame oil, garlic, garlic-ginger paste, and hunan red chili paste). The person who ordered this, oddly, ended up happiest with his meal. The orange chicken met expectations(points for it actually having the peel and some of the bitterness that goes with it) and wasn’t cloying sweet like in some places.(It was less sweet than the hunan beef, which is so wrong we think the delivery came from an alternate universe.) Overall, I wish I’d gone with plan C: go to Trader Joe’s, get their orange chicken, beef w/broccoli, and chow mein, and heat according to package. More delicious for much less money.(Trader Joe’s is our new plan B)

Worst Chinese food I’ve had in years. The crab wontons had absolutely nothing inside of them, the vegetables were floppy, I couldn’t tell the difference between their sweet and sour chicken and sweet and sour shrimp, the fried rice was burnt, everything was over-cooked, and we ended up eating PB&J for dinner as a substitute.

THISISTHE2NDWORSTRESTAURANT I HAVEEVERBEENTO ! I stopped in for lunch at around 1 pm and ordered simple cashew chicken lunch special with fried rice and soup for $ 5.25. First off he charged me $ 5.75 and walked off grumbling after I asked him why. It’s not the cost but the dishonestly. The fried rice was not all that bad as it was just bland. It went downhill from there. The chicken was at best a day old if it was chicken at all: o When I opened the soup container it looked like dirty dishwater. It may have been. This was horrible! I cannot believe this place has a 3 star rating from Unilocal.Come on people… the best part of my meal was the water I brought with me and the fact that I did not throw up… Aaaack!!!

BUYERBEWARE! I was charged $ 15.00 for 2 menu items that were $ 6.75 each. When I realized this I asked why, and the 10 year old who rang me up could not for the life of her and her iphone 5 calculator figure out that 6.75+6.75 = 13.50. I tried to explain the math to her, but she looked puzzled and then made up an answer«umm tax!» I asked what the percentage of tax was, but it didn’t add up. Then she told me the actual menu item was 7.85, but of course, that doesn’t add up either. That’s when I started recording everything and the older chinese people behind her said something to her and she quickly asked how much my refund was. SHESTILLCOULDNOT figure it out!!! I’m sorry, but whatever health inspection/appropriate law agencies in charge of monitoring this business are NOT doing their job. This place should be closed because of: #1 Fraudulent activity #2 Child labor I really don’t want this to happen to anyone else. I’m sorry, but when I was 10 I could do some simple addition. AND they should not be having a child working at 10PM.

Found a fly on the rice, so disgusting! made me throw up The food was very dry and the chow mein has no taste we ordered to go and got it delivered at our door, when we called to order the food, they didn’t have any good customer service and the people are not nice over the phone. We were eating and I saw that there was a cooked fly in the rice, we were so disgusted and threw all the food away. I called the place to speak to a manager, and a man answered and he asked why I wanted to speak to a manager, I told him that I needed to speak to someone and he was very rude and said no manager what you want? I asked for the manager’s name, he said«Jackie» and I told him the issue that we found a fly on our rice, this guy didn’t say anything, not even an apology, all he said was«we can’t give a refund» I was very upset and said I will call tomorrow and speak to a manager since you don’t even see or care about this issue, and he replied ” you can call everyday we don’t care about just one fucking customer!“ this is the worst customer service i have ever experience. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all, who knows how and what they do on the back. BTW, I asked the guy for his name and he wouldn’t give it to me, he said he didn’t need to give me his name and hung up.

Do not judge a book by its cover, or in this case, a restaurant by its’ grime. The basics, they are cheap, good, and quick! When we placed our order, we heard the pan start sizzling in that moment. We didn’t feel the post-Chinese food guilt as other places would leave you feeling. It felt right. That’s really all you can say about this place. They serve the basics and no this is not as fancy as other places nor as famous as its counter Panda Express, but it IS worth it for the price. Panda express is double the price for the same amount of food. Plus, I love little places like this. I mean, .50 cents charge for under $ 15 to a small little joint? Sure, why not? I’m not sure why people are complaining about«add more salt». First of all, this is not the best food in the world and SECOND, salt is the last thing you should be complaining about. Nobody needs excessive amounts of salt, so calm yourself down and drink some water, as those complaining about salt should probably take a chill pill with that water while you’re at it.

Had not eaten all day, engaged with chores and activities around the house and such, so this evening I decided or order out from Canton City here in San Leandro across from the Bay Fair Mall. I have been to this joint before for their lunch specials and the food has been fresh and pleasant, but due to the rain, I decided not to make the walk and order out instead. Boy was I in for a surprise… First off, there was no rice delivered. That is not a real kicker. I understand rice is sometimes a separate item and I should have specifically stated rice on the phone. Usually they ask these sorts of things, but I concede, it was my fault. I did not ensure an order of rice was placed. I just assumed. I even thought about calling them back to ensure rice after I placed the order on the phone, but no worries… I’ll deal with not having rice. Pot stickers — These were marginally the best of the items I ordered off the menu. Hot, nice texture, decent dipping sauce, I should of just only ordered these. Crab Wonton — This came as a free item since I spent a little over $ 20 dollars. Kinda crusty tasting like they had been sitting for a while and inside the wonton, there was very little crab mixture… Why don’t they just call these empty wontons? Hot and Sour Soup — I like to feel the texture of a nice soup. From what I understand, hot and sour is supposed to be a little bit on the thick side. This was watered down like a Cambells chicken broth based soup. There was no hot. There was no sour. I had about 3 or 4 spoonfuls of this and I immediately dumped it out. I never in my life have had watered down Hot and Sour Soup like this. I was really frustrated about it and I almost called the restaurant. I probably should have. However, it is all dumped out now. Moving on… General’s Chicken — This item was soggy and the texture of the chicken was a bit off. Usually this dish is rather easy for places to do, I don’t know how they messed this one up. Kung Pao Beef — The vegetables were crisp and fresh. The spices tasted right but the beef was lacking. Now I know when you grab Chinese, you can’t expect a filet mignon, but I like my beef to not taste so rubbery. Beef was a little bit on the tough side, as if it had been cooked earlier in the day. I ordered enough food to last a few meals and I really had high hopes on this place. Eating there in person has been a good dining experience. However, after this recent delivery experience, I will not be eating there again. Wasting food is a huge annoyance to me; but unfortunately, all of tonight’s delivered food is in the trash. I won’t be eating at Canton City again. Thanks for reading.
