The staff here is just stupendous! The guy that usually at the register(forgive me for not knowing his name) is always very very friendly. Awesome guy. So, when you get that great customer service with a very delicious big inexpensive sandwich you can’t go wrong. The sandwiches are huge and worth it to travel to. Sandwich Rolls all day!

Went with a friend for lunch based on reviews and photos. I was expecting a real Italian deli, but no such luck. It’s a convenience store, with a deli. Nothing special.

Best Bay Area secret! Great prices and great service. I just wish it wasn’t so busy! Call ahead orders are best if you have big orders. Bomb sandwiches!

Hands down, probably the best sandwich I’ve ever had. I had the Bara’s Combo(turkey or ham with your choice of another deli meat) and my husband had the smoked turkey sandwich. They were so yummy and huge! One sandwich is good enough for two meals, so I only had half, but I already can’t wait to come back to order another sandwich!

The liquor shelves are down, boys! Bara’s has gone full-on deli. The usual groceries, soda and beer remain. Great selection on the beer BTW. In case it isn’t yet totally obvious, Bara’s has the bread/meat/cheese thing DOWN. Lots of variety to keep things interesting. You’ll want to eat there again tomorrow. Support our local family-owned businesses!

The only reason why I won’t return is because it costs a little more than my favorite sandwich place that offers much more. This little place is among a liquor store. That being said, the gentleman helping me had to pause and help someone with a liquor store purchase. The sandwich was good. Nothing wrong with it, but then again, it could have been a little more. I love sprouts and lots of veggies that just weren’t offered here. This is a pick-up situation as well, so don’t expect to sit and dine. Not the best customer service, and frankly I’ve had better, but if you are in need of a fresh sandwich and you can’t travel far, this will take care of business.

I usually don’t crave sandwiches, but after having one from here… YUM…Drool. My mom used to get subs(that I loved) at a place similar to this one in downtown SJ and this place brought me back to my childhood. I usually order a Bara’s combo. The meat changes depending on what my mood is, but the sandwich does not disappoint. Fresh ingredients and good quality meats, they’re doing everything right.

Great sandwiches. Probably the best subs I’ve had in this area. Everything is fresh and they’ve been dishin out bombass subs since forever. It’s hard to tell because it looks like your average corner liquor store. But one day I was passing by and decided I wanted a cold 24 oz can of Mickey’s. Whilst checking out I looked beyond the glass window adjacent to the register and said to myself, hey big papa j, you deserve a sandwich. The cashier read my mind and concurred.

Thanks fellow Unilocalers! I have finally found a deli that makes amazing sandwiches with fresh ingredients and is not afraid to use a lot of them. Some places really skimp on their meats and just fill the sandwiches with veggies. This place gives a lot meats and just the right amount of veggies. I will def return! Highly recommend.

This is just a little deli in a liquor store, but it seems to have a strong following. As me and my Tiny came dropped in, after a morning of school shopping at The Marina outlets, there were plenty of folks lined up to order. Grilled chicken sandwich for me and meatball sandwich for her. Chicken was juicy and moist. Meatballs were tasty too. Parking is easy, since it’s in a little strip mall. Service was friendly and I like that it’s a family owned business. Lastly, there’s a few little tables to eat at, but if you’ve got a big gang, you’re better off taking it to-go.

Good customer service. call ahead if you have large orders. the sandwiches were made to perfection. If you’re a meat lover you’d love their generous helpings of deli meat in each sandwich. Ps. Had the BEST strawberry It’s-IT! I’ve never seen a strawberry, I’d go back just for that. Also had some delicious pickled veggies and olives all homemade.

Huge sandwiches for a surprisingly cheap price. They’re so big that I can get two meals out of one sandwich — each half is enough to fill me up for a few hours! Located in the corner of a tiny, tiny strip of shops on Washington, you’d never know it was there otherwise. Don’t be put off by the dingy, liquor-store look of the place. Staff has always been super friendly and courteous to me. The food is worth the wait that you’ll find sometimes on the weekends! Boyfriend wanted to come here for nostalgia’s sake — his dad used to buy sandwiches for him here when his sister used to take lessons at the martial arts place a few doors down. The sandwiches are as he remembered: huge, filling and cheap. If you’re looking for hearty picnic food, or just have a hankering for a big sandwich, then I highly recommend that you give this place a try. I doubt you’ll be disappointed!

I don’t Unilocal all that often. But the gentleman behind the counter was so nice and my sandwich was so delicious and ginormous that I just felt that this little hole in the wall deli and liquor store should have the honor its due: 5 stars. I got the Bay Area special with smoked Gouda. It was about $ 8. Cons: I’m unable to unhinge my jaw and the sandwich was too tall/big. I had to take two little baby bites in the place of one big bite, all the while wondering why God didn’t make me a snake so I could taste this sandwich better. Also, my stomach hurts because i think I ate too much too fast. I only ate half my sandwich. Of course these aren’t really cons. More like me wishing I had better judgement around pacing myself with food and comparing my inadequate human mouth to the amazing jaws of snakes.

I never knew this place made sandwiches just thought it was your regular corner store. The sandwiches are HUGE! I got a Bara special and it fed me and my cousin. Excellent price for the portions! About the same pricing as subway/togos but you’re getting a FULLYLOADED sand which here! The bread(I got Dutch crunch) and the meats(salami/turkey) were really fresh!

After reading up on the best sandwiches in the East Bay, I came across this little Grocery /Convenience /Deli in a strip mall. I already knew what I wanted before even walking in the«Bay Area Special». with Provolone on a Dutch Crunch roll. It tasted just as I imagined«great». I remember living in New York as a kid and going to the little Italian Delis for great sandwiches and this brings back those memories. It has Pastami, Ham, and Turkey and plenty of it not like Togos or Subway. It’s not over dressed like Ike’s. It’s not assembly line fast food but a well constructed sandwich.

On Saturday, 12÷13÷14, after my girlfriend and I had a devastating nasty lunch at Sauced in Livermore we decided to hit up Bara’s Grocery & Deli to get a sandwich to go. I read a lot of positive reviews on Unilocal about how good the Bay Area Special is. I had to give it a try. Atmosphere/Décor: Bara’s Grocery & Deli is set up like your typical liquor store. They have a few tables to sit at inside of the liquor store in case you want to eat your sandwich there. I saw a few pasta salads displayed as well as various meats and even spaghetti & meatballs. Food: I ordered the Bay Area Special(Ham, Turkey, Roast beef with American cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, pickles) on a French roll. I got home and noticed they gave me the wrong bread(Sourdough roll instead of a French roll.) The sourdough roll was very hard and tough to chew. It was very challenging while eating the sandwich due to the sourdough roll being so hard. I liked how they loaded the sandwich up with so much meat. They definitely don’t skimp on the meat at all. The ham, turkey and roast beef tasted good and fresh. The roast beef tasted more like pastrami to me so I’m not sure if the roast beef was actually roast beef. It still tasted good no matter if it was roast beef or pastrami. Service: The guy that took my order was nice. The other guy that made my sandwich was quick and efficient. I only waited a few minutes for my sandwich. Overall: Bara’s Grocery & Deli makes a pretty good sandwich. I liked the Bay Area Special. I would have given Bara’s a solid 4 star rating but I have to give them a 3 since they got my order wrong and gave me a sourdough roll instead of a French roll. Next time I’ll try a different sandwich along with their potato or macaroni salad.

Bara’s is a little liquor store + deli with a few tables for seating and no AC. I was hoping I found a hole in the wall spot… but their service and sandwiches are comparable to the grungy looking place. It took at least 15 minutes to prep a cold cut Combo sandwich and I was the only customer at the time. I thought he handed me a brick when I got my order because there was SOMUCHMEAT in my sandwich. It was bigger than my face. I went up to the counter to ask if the sandwich can be cut into smaller portions but he ignored me. When I finally got his attention he told me to wait and never got back to me ;_; Other than the huge portions, nothing special about the quality and taste of their sandwiches are notable. Sometimes less is more, especially when the ham/turkey is so salty. Lol at least you can save the extra hunk of deli and make a homemade sandwich!!! On another note, they have Southern Heat BBQ Lay’s that I’m excited to try.
