Unfortunately, Barth’s restaurant recently closed due to owners moving back to Germany. I hope they will someday return, I will keep my five star rating because that is what I experienced when they were open.

I have been to Germany well over a hundred times. Barth’s food is as good or better than any place I have eaten in Germany. The food was fantastic, portions were quite large, and was very unsalty. This is true authentic German food. I will go here again for sure. Prices are reasonable for what you are getting. They use quality meats and veggies. I never stopped here before because of the name«continental cuisine» thinking it was something else. Now it will be a regular for us.

My wife and I celebrated our 30th anniversary dinner here,(a tradition of having Weiner Schnitzel as we were married in Vienna) and had a wonderful time. Gabriela was terrific, the fresh Pretzels were great as a starter with a litre of Delicious beer. The portions and taste were exactly what we were looking for(huge and wonderful) It felt quite a bit like a German Gausthous. If anything to change, a little less volume on the oom– pa –pa music… but it did get you in the spirit of things. WILL go back again and Again.

Amazing authentic Gernan food. Some of the reviews I read say that this is not authentic, but I have been to Germany many times and this is the best German food this side of the Atlantic. The wiener schnitzel was very good and the pretzel rolls just like Germany. We will definitely be back soon!

Auzgezeichnet dude. Good food and good beer. Brings back memories of living in Germany. Only drawback is the restaurant is small and there aren’t enough tables. We waited for 20 minutes. It’s worth the wait, but there were other people waiting after us. I don’t think they accept reservations.

I was super excited to find a German place. Having taken German for 4 years in high school, I kind of got hooked on things German and really wanted to try some authentic German food. So me and 3 friends came here to try it out. We got the complimentary pretzels with cream cheese, which I had been super excited for. The pretzels were typical pretzels in the shape of nuggets, with too much salt. I was sad :( I got the Zigeunerschnitzel(Gypsy) with spinach spaetzle and cooked purple cabbage. Spaeztle was interesting(in a good way). The proportion of sides to huge chunk of meat is not right. Need more of the side, like at least twice as much as what hey give. The meat was okay. After a while, the breading gets soggy under whatever gravy they use. At least there’s enough meat to save for another day, but again, you’d have to add your own sides to make something of that leftover. I’d say, not worth the $ 16 – 20 price-tag. Found a German deli in NorCal that sells stuff(OMG Currywurst special on Friday) for half the price. I will not return, sad to say. German food, is this how you respond to my expectations? Sad face, sad face.

I love this place! I think it’s part of a conspiracy involving my cardiologist. I would eat there every day if I could survive it. I come from German and nordic grandparents. This place is the real deal. If you don’t like the food, you don’t like German food and thats OK. This is simply the best German food in 100 miles of where I live(Corona). I would drive there just for the food if diesel wasn’t $ 4 a gallon.

GOTOBARTH’S ITISAUTHENTICAND, MOREIMPORTANTLY, DELICIOUS!!! Not convincing enough? Ok then here’s the skinny: Barth’s opened a little less than a year ago in San Juan Capistrano. I’m never that far south so I was hesitant to haul my fanny over there for German dinner. However, It’s located a few stoplights from the freeway and, come to think about it I have friends in Dana Point and Laguna Niguel so this trek ain’t bad. When we called in to reserve a table the woman who answered the phone had an accent and then she passed the phone to another woman who had an accent. That alone got me really excited. Cutting to the chase: 2 beer varieties Complimentary pretzel bites Rouladen(with spaetzle and red cabbage) Jaegerschnitzel(with cucumber salad and spaetzle) Potato Pancakes It’s all delicious, all tastes like it’s been made in Germany with portion sizes like you are in Bavaria. They sell liter beers which I adore. This place is serious. I don’t know what to say other than I’ve either been living in or visiting Germany my whole life and my mother and grandmother make this kind of food. What Barth’s serves tastes like home to me. They have a variety of specials(if you see Donauwellen on the dessert menu order it because you don’ t know when they’ll be served next!) including organic meat grown by the Amish or something. So worth even going out of your way for.

I’ve been here three times so far, and plan on trying everything on the menu at least once! I had the Schweinebraten on my first visit and my friend got the special called«The Monster» which was a HUGE pork shank(not kidding at least 6lbs!) and a German beer for only $ 26, The red cabbage and German potato salad are amazing! Before your meal you always get fresh baked pretzel bread which is very addicting. Service so far has always been prompt!(food comes within 20 – 30 minutes) I think we get lucky and miss the crowds, if you plan on bringing your whole family I would suggest making reservations, as this place is growing in popularity quickly and gets filled up for dinner. I also plan on going for my birthday! see you Wednesday Barth’s!

Tasty German food here! Reminds me of summers spent in Munich. The portions are huge so make sure to share– they also have the best pretzels and wienerschnitzel! Very authentic German restaurant!

Had lunch here the other day. I had the Sauerbraten with red cabbage and spatzle. The red cabbage and spatzle were exceptionally tasty. The Sauerbraten was tender but a bit lacking in flavor. I also had their homemade pretzel which perfectly baked, brown on the outside and moist inside. I couldn’t stop eating it. They also offer a variety of German beers. This place is owned by a German couple who literally just moved here from Germany because they love the area so much. They run the kitchen and their daughter waits on the tables. I thought the service was good and the food arrived timely.

Found this place right after they opened, we love it that we drive at least once a month an hour to eat here. Traditional German fare, all fresh homemade food. Great Beer and the family running this place are all great. Be prepared to wait if they are busy it will be well worth it. I savor every bite and have my leftovers with eggs the next day ENJOYALL :)

I have eaten here at Barths twice now and I am sold on how yummy the food is. It is a tiny little place so there is always a wait. The wait staff are super nice, but super slow as well. I cut them some slack since they are fairly new and the food is worth the wait, they just need to get a good routine down and get the hang of it. The German Potatoe Salad is to die for as well as the red cabbage. The schnitzel was made well and full of favor. The free pretzel they bring out for you as a starter is delicious, that alone is worth going to Barths. Highly recommended!

The food here is outstanding. Service is a bit slow as it is family run, but trust me, the wait for a table(small place) is rewarded with the best Austrian grub I have had outside of Vienna. It’s heavy food, so if light fare is what you seek, move on. You will wait for your check as well when you are done, but since you are stuffed, it does not matter. Once they work the kinks out, and realize they may need to expand, this place will be great. It’s my new favorite place.

Got a hankering for some schnitzel and took the family to Barth’s in San Juan. I heard good things about the food and couldn’t wait to find out for myself. Sonny boy ordered traditional schnitzel, wifey ordered the ‘gypsi’ with a small bowl of goulash soup and I went for the Jaegerschnitzel with the mushroom gravy and the German potato salad. Wifey and I also got spinach-spaetzl. First and foremost: the only way this is ‘continental’(as the sign says) is if we were IN Germany — the entire menu is German standards. Next, there is no décor in this place, and, that gave it a great deal of charm. What they did have was oompah music playing and to my pleasant surprise, our young waitress spoke English with a heavy German accent. Wunderbar! She told us the picture on the wall was some kind of German royalty from Bavaria and the picture of the Castle was from Ulm which was where the family who owned the place(and our server) was from. Sweet. Now to the food — pretzels and sour cream to start: surprisingly salty with very little visible salt. Soft, chewy… yum. Next, the goulash — the broth was dark and rich and the beef, potatoes and carrots were fresh and delicious. Next came my potato salad with sauerkraut — cold, creamy, tangy, yum. After some small talk and a few more oompah marches, three LARGE plates came out… I mean, the diameter of these dishes was well beyond the size of our own heads. And, encompassing the entire surface of the plate is the LARGEST pieces of schnitzel I have ever laid eyes on. About ¼ of my plate was spaetzl, which I later learned was covering… you guessed it… more schnitzel! In my opinion, the schnitzel was delicious. I am no expert on this cuisine. I just had a craving and it was filled(and then some) by this awesome little place. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the chef came out to greet us. He insisted that they take a picture of our son for their wall because it was his first schnitzel. The wall was filling up fast and we laughed and joked around with the staff. I ate most of my dish and took home my leftovers(which were easily enough for a sit down meal) and a piece of the german cheese cake. For my palate, the cheese cake was okay. I’m not familiar with how german cheese cake is supposed to be like so I have nothing to compare it to. It had a slightly tangy lemon flavor and came without any sauce(i.e. strawberry, etc.). If I had a cup of coffee to go with it, I’m sure I might not think much more(or less of the cake). I ate my leftovers the next day and it was just as delicious as the day before. The reality is: schnitzel is an extremely simple dish(tenderized meat, dipped in egg wash and breadcrumbs and cooked in light oil in a frying pan) but the overall experience, with the sides, the music and the family from germany doing the cooking was a wonderful experience. I gladly recommend this currently unfancy, down home, german dining experience. My family and I cannot wait to go back for more! Dankeschön Barth’s!

I’ve never had German food up until I came into this restaurant. I didn’t really know what to expect but from what my friends were saying about this place, the food was to be nothing less than amazing. And it was. Everything that was ordered came out hot, fresh and very, very tasty. They first serve you freshly baked pretzel bread which is just so crazy good that I could have just eaten that for my entire dinner. But there was absolutely no way I could control myself from ordering off the menu. I don’t remember the name of the dish I ordered(the names of the food are in German) but it consisted of pork medallions, a mushroom cream sauce and a side of what’s said to be a kind of German Mac & Cheese. Every single thing on that plate was incredibly delicious. I couldn’t stop eating! I didn’t want to. Barht’s not only has great food, it has a very classy kind of ambience to it as well as great service. I live about 40 – 45 minutes away from this place, but it is surely a drive worth taking.

Barths has labeled itself«continental cuisine,» but this is clearly a German restaurant set up by Germans. They should be more forward about this – had I known a German restaurant had set up shop in town I’d have gone weeks ago. I knew I was going to enjoy this place when I looked through into the kitchen and saw spaetzle being created fresh, with dough and a grinder. My meal was a Jaegerschnitzel; flattened pork, topped with a mushroom gravy and served with two sides from a list of very tasty options. I was urged into a beer by the waiter, which was an easy sell. The meal came quickly, and was preceded by a couple of salty nuggets of pretzel bread that were a perfect complement to my beer. Had the pretzel bread arrived at my table hot, it would have been wonderful. The total cost of my trip to Barths was $ 20, which seems pricey at face value. This is deceptive however, as a dinner portion is enough food for two meals. I found it to be a good value, though if I went back on lunch more regularly I’d probably try their lunch menu. I like Barths, because good German food is rare in Southern California. I worry, however, that it will end up in the same void that restaurants in San Juan fall into when they aren’t by the mission. It’s clear that the proprietors are learning restauranteurship as they go, and they inherited a lot of the interior décor from the Thai restaurant that was in this space a couple of months ago. If you’re reading this review and considering eating at Barths, you’ll not be disappointed in the food.

This is one of my favorite new restaurants. It has the best German food in the area! This family-owned restaurant is cozy with a friendly atmosphere and the prices are quite reasonable. I had the traditional schnitzel, which was delicious and came in a huge portion with a choice of 2 side dishes. They also have a great selection of German beers. Be sure to save room for dessert. The home-made cheesecake was amazing! It’s much lighter and far better than a New York style cheesecake.
