One dollar tacos are a thing of the past… except here at Tacos Eva. And you can’t go wrong with $ 3 burritos either. When I feel like a burrito, I get two meats, usually a half lengua and half cabeza without beans and rice. Salsa, onions, and cilantro can be added for a little kick. Raddish slices, lime wedges and grilled jalapenos are usually put on the side. Just like with an order of tacos. Speaking of… when I feel like tacos I pretty much eat any of the meats like pastor or cabeza… con todo. The meats here are tender and usually in good-sized chunks, with just the right amount of fat on them. You know it’s good food at bargain prices when there’s a line of regulars during lunchtime… that include local businessmen, construction/factory workers, families from local eastside communities, flea market patrons, and truck drivers(who just park their big rigs in the middle turning lane). If you have a little get together or a poker game with friends, you can order about 20 to 50 tacos. Yes that would be $ 20 or $ 50 respectively. All you have to do is pre-order. There might be some days when«the truck» is not there. But usually they roll in around 10 am. Make sure to get your cheap grub by about 4:30 pm, because usually by 5ish you’ll see«the truck» rolling away.

Yesterday I was in my usual mood… poor and hungry. I wasn’t in the mood for HT Fastfood, so I called my cousin and told him to meet me at «The Truck». Taco’s Eva is the place to be if you find yourself low on cash and hungry. $ 1 tacos and $ 3 burritos and tortas, and that’s all you need to know. I threw down on a 4 way with asada, lengua, pastor, and cabeza, and that filled me up. I was full, but was curious about the burritos, so I threw down on a half pastor, half cabeza to take home. Next time I’ll stick with the tacos, as the burritos lacked flavor. Must have been the bland beans and rice. The meats were good, but the lengua lacked the flavor that I’ve seen from other taco joints. Pastor and cabeza seemed to be the best bets. On flea market days, expect a line, along with CD and DVD vendors lining the street, ‘training on the truck. Come if you’re poor and hungry, or just too plain cheap and hungry.

You will usually find this taco truck parked in front of Orco’s(at the end of Mabury Ave, right before it becomes Taylor St.) If you pass the railroad tracks, then you probably went too far. Anyways, this truck sells tacos for $ 1 and you can get it «con todo»(with everything; onions and salsa) and you can add cheese at no extra charge. The steak chunks can be more on the fatty side but hey– they’re only $ 1. A good place to go if you’re low on cash and feeling for some mexican food. They also have other stuff like burritos and the like. But I’ve only tried their tacos. Not quite sure what their official hours are, because it seems to vary with the weather and business day. But I’ve seen them parked here on the weekends too, ever ready to feed all those hungry people coming from the flea market. I will find out their hours the next time I come here.
