This place is not too bad. It seems like they’re always open and not crazy busy. I think they make most of their money during lunchtime. Well anyways, they got some big ass bowls so this is the spot if you’re a big eater. The people there are very nice too. They have rice plates and phở. They’ve all been pretty good so far

Something about a good Vietnamese rice plate that is perfection in every way. It all started when I had the grilled pork chop, grilled shrimp and rolled beef with green onion with broken rice at Vung Tau II in Milpitas and we are talking about many, many years ago. Ever since then, Vietnamese rice dishes became one of my favorite meals. It’s really a perfectly balanced meal. Not only can you choose and combine from a wide variety of meats and food options, it generally comes with soup, rice(I love broken), salad or some sort of fresh vegetables to cut down on the greasy taste. Oh and the aromatic grilled onion, pickled carrots, turnip and fish sauce that just add to another whole layer of flavors. The tendency is to find places near Story-Capitol-Tully Road area where most of the Vietnamese restaurants congregate but the area can get very crowded on the weekends. «Phở Com Tam Nhu Y» is definitely more accessible for me and has been around for quite some time. Surprisingly it offers really good rice plate entrees. My favorite is the grilled pork chop, grilled shrimp, and fried shrimp cake with rice… and if I am feeling hungry, I would also throw in some shredded pork skin, egg roll and egg cake. If prepared well, the dish can be incredibly satisfying and addictive. I am really happy to know that this restaurant is close by and the dishes are all reasonably priced compare to many other places in SJ.

This place has been around for a very long time and I come here whenever I need a quick meal that I know will be decent and cheap. Ambiance: Super casual Asian restaurant so there’s nothing special about it. The restaurant is very spacious and it always seems to be empty when I come so its very laid back and relaxing. I’m honestly baffled by how they have managed to stay in business for so long considering they are across from Phở Kim Long(one of the most popular phở restaurants in SJ) and that they always seem to be empty. Normally I would consider walking into an empty restaurant a death sentence to my stomach; however, this place surprised me on my first visit here almost ten years ago with my dad. Since then I stop by from time to time when I don’t feel like dealing with busy restaurants or if I just want a casual meal away from the world. Food: This place has a huge menu selection but I have several classics I always turn to. My favorites are: Cha Ca La Vong(fried catfish with dill and onions), Phở Ap Chao(pan fried phở noodles topped with beef or seafood) and Hu Tieu Mi Nhu Y Kho(House special egg noodle dish with a ground pork sauce, soup on the side and a fried chicken drumstick). My girlfriend loves their Bun Rieu Oc(Tomato and Crab Roe soup with Snail) and their Com Dac Biet(special rice plates). The portions and quality of the food here is pretty good for the affordable prices. This place also takes credit card so bonus points there. Service: It’s a small laid back Asian restaurant so its virtually non existent after you order. However, the people here are still very friendly if you simply call them over and ask for help. Overall Experience: If you want a quick bite to eat, cheap prices and no annoying people to deal with then come here. It’s a pretty good place considering how empty it looks from the outside.

There are so many different & competitive Phở restaurants within this area, that I think«Phở Com Tam Nhu Y» can easily get lost in the competition. After trying out«Phở Kim Long» & «Phở Factory», I decided to try out«Phở Com Tam Nhu Y» for the very 1st time. I came here in the middle of the week around 7pm and I was really surprised at how empty this restaurant was. Since we were initially the only customers to arrive at that time, we had excellent service. As for the food, I thought that the quality & flavor was just okay. It really wasn’t anything fantastic, but I do want to credit that the quantity was HUGE! They gave you a lot of the meat & noodles. Their bowl of Phở was definitely more plentiful than either«Phở Kim Long» or «Phở Factory». I noticed that their specialty is their Lobster Noodles, which I didn’t try. Since I had a pretty decent experience here, I will definitely come back here again and try out their Lobster Noodles. I would give them 3.5 stars, but I will round up since I enjoyed their friendly service, the quantity of their servings, and they also accept credit cards.

I came here several times and never have this place disappointed me! It’s a hidden gem at the border of San Jose and Milpitas. It’s also a little runned down but not a huge problem. They are never too busy and even have a few outdoor tables if you prefer to sit outside. I have tried their Cha Ca La Vong dish that serves two. It’s basically deep fried catfish cooked with dill and onion. For two people, it’s usually more than enough and i am bloated everytime after. I love this! They also have very good broken rice plate dishes. I came here yesterday and ordered the #1 broken rice plate special that comes with beancurdskin wrapped around shrimp, shreadded pork, bbq pork, egg cake, daikon and a small bowl of chicken soup. I was already full after i had half of the dish! I got a small to-go box and my left oveers filled up the entire box and the rest of my food was another big meal for me. Portions are very generous. I had trouble wrapping my spring roll and my rice paper turned into a ball. The lady saw thay happen to me so she gave us extra rice paper and even told my boyfriend to help me wrap my rolls. lol I always see people from other tables order lobster noodle plate. I have yet to order that and i cannot wait to order that next time i come here!

Yummy Vietnamese restaurant to satisfy your phở/broken rice cravings. Price– Decently priced compared to other similar restaurants in the area. ~$ 7 for a regular bowl of phở and ~$ 9 for the broken rice plate I ordered. Service– Friendly. Food– I ordered the broken rice with grilled pork, egg cake, and shredded pork. So yummmmmmms! The portion is pretty big; I ended up having leftovers. The pork was flavorful and had just the right amount of fat. It was delicious. We also got spring rolls. Tasted really good as well and loved the warm peanut sauce it came with. As per my sister who ordered the phở, she said that they wete very generous with the meat. There was so much in the soup! This place has really good food. I think it’s better than the Kim Long across the street, yet they always have less people. The price might be just a bit more here, but I highly recommend trying this place over the one across the street.

I’ve been going to phở Kim long for years, don’t get me wrong, it’s a wonderful place to eat and actually a closer walk for me. Com Tam Nhu Y is just a better place overall in my opinion though. They have a great variety of authentic options to choose from, and being Vietnamese its great for me. The broken rice here is great, the ban beo, and the phở too actually! I went here today because phở Kim Long was too busy and I said why not I’ll try it here instead of getting the usual rice plates and ban beo, and to my surprise the broth here is actually better than phở Kim longs broth! Overall great place, all the food options here are great. I feel like it doesn’t get much credit because their name says com tam instead of phở, but boy I just had an amazing meal here. Come support this shop! Its awesome!

We came here on New Year’s Eve because Phở Kim Long was closed — thank goodness we did! I’ve been a PKL fan for a long time and am a big fan of phở in general, so I’m happy to have stumbled upon this place. Haven’t been too happy with PKL lately anyway. We stepped in about an hour before closing, 6:00 pm. Unfortunately, they were only offering noodle soup — no big deal, that’s what we came for! We did want to try to egg roll because it looked so good in the Unilocal reviews! Next time! Bean sprouts and lime came out first, followed by water with ice. Ordered one combination phở(large), and one chicken phở(small). It took about 10 – 15 minutes to get our food. We understand, they were about to close anyway. Love that they brought out little bowls with a scissor to cut the noodles with. That’s thoughtful :) They also had knives, forks, small sauce dishes, napkins, soy sauce, siracha, chopsticks and hot sauce on the table already. We were the last to leave for the night. Went to the cashier to pay. We spoke with whom we thought was the owner. Super nice guy. Told him it was a our first time, stumbling in by accident. We’ll definitely be back to try more of their dishes!

I’ve been wanting to check this place out for months so today I gave it a try. spring rolls with meat ball 4 stars rice dish #23 stars phở combo 3.5 stars Spring rolls were fresh and the sauce was tasty. Rice dish pork chop had too much MSG. Shrimp with bean curd skin did not stay crispy and the flavor did not impress. The bowl of soup had so much MSG, my tongue must of went numb. Phở was a good size for the large but broth lacked flavor. Overall 3.5 stars. Tongue says 3 stars.

This place has a lot to offer, I feel bad that they don’t do as well as Thien Long near by. They have a wide selection of food! Love it, I just can’t pick. Their price is reasonable for the quantity of food served too, I had food coma afterward. Parking is weird and limited, might wanna try the plaza nearby. Staffs are friendly and yes it does have the mama and pop’s vibe to it but the food is good and that’s all it matters right.

Came here because one of my coworkers said that they have good rice dish here. Its located in a small plaza right across from one of my favorite phở restaurant(Phở Kim Long). Walk into a run down decent size restaurant with probably 10 people max eating there. Got seated right away. The menus were kind of sticky and the place didn’t felt that clean to me(and guess what, my feelings were right) I ordered the broken rice dish with grill pork and Korean short-ribs and also ordered the Banh Cuon to share with the 2 other people I went with. When they brought out the fish sauce for the rice dish, I saw something dark that was stuck to the inside wall of the bowl. After taking a closer look, I realized that it was a cockroach and that immediately ruined my appetite. The food came out fairly quickly and the taste of the food was just okay. I had to force myself to eat because the thought of seeing that cockroach had made me lost my appetite. I wasn’t able to finish my meal also. Place felt dirty and food is just mediocre… so I don’t think I will be coming back here.

This restaurant is so underrated. It is in a business plaza. It looks kinda worn down outside but pretty clean inside. The owner lady was very nice. –Banh canh cua– I highly recommend this dish. Portion is huge. This bowl could seriously feeds me for both lunch and dinner. The seafood was so fresh. The crab came in a hefty portion of the crab with nice big chunks. Pork was a little dry. Noodles was a little mushy. I think It would be perfect if they make their own noodles. The broth here is the winning factor. It has wonderful flavor of the sea, esp. the crab. It is banh canh cua afterall, the crab is the defining factor. –Hu Tieu Nam Vang(dry) — Hu tieu was cooked to a nice consistency. Big shrimps. I love the sauce that goes with it. It came with Xiu Quach(short ribs i believe). The soup came with it was also rich and I can tell it was cooked from pork bone. Love this restaurant. Totally hole in the wall!

Com Tam Nhu Y is across the street from Phở Kim Long, one of my favorite Phở joints which has kept me from trying it. They remodeled here last year so have somewhat upscale décor with granite table tops. Each table has a plethora of condiments( ) for your saucing needs. I asked the waiter(owner?) what to get. It came down to Com tam(broken rice) plates or Phở. I had a hard time communicating the concept of «What’s your best dish» and he kept saying«Both are good, but different. If you want soup get phở, if you want rice get com tam». Finally he broke down and said to get the Phở. Got the #27(beef phở with everything. what many places call their special or Dac Biet. here they reserve that designation for rice plates) no cilantro, rare steak on the side and an order of Cha Gio(Imperial Rolls) Beer is served with a glass of ice( ). Not sure why, but I saw others go to tables like this. The Cha Gio came on a nice plate with lots of lettuce and mint( ) which is traditional, but seems rare. Maybe most is wasted, but I enjoy eating the rolls as wraps and ate most of it. Five decent sized rolls. They were not freshly fried and the filling was tasty, but dry. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed as the restaurant filled up. First they brought me another table’s order and then my «No cilantro and rare steak on the side» came with cilantro and rare steak in the broth(picture post cilantro removal operation ) and a nice plate of fresh sprouts, basil and lime( ). Broth was nice and beefy. The noodles were undercooked barely getting to al dente by the time I was done. I didn’t eat all the noodles which doesn’t often happen. Generous amount of meats, but the rare steak was tough. The other meats like brisket and flank were better, more tender and flavorful. For phở in this area it’s still Phở Kim Long for me, but I’ll be back to try the broken rice.
