Very good sushi! I was craving for sashimi one day and I went to this restaurant. I don’t regret going here I would eat here Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Every penny was worth it.

The sushi was overpriced and most of it was sub-par. The only thing I enjoyed was the sushi with the fries on top of it, that is a winner but overall I would skip this place and head down the street.

Me and my friends went to the restaurant and ordered 3 bento boxes. We had teriyaki chicken and beef with California rolls side and salmon sashimi. They were pretty good and tasty and well-presented. For an Asian, I think it was very well seasoned and the salmon was fresh. However, I took one-star off because the wasabi wasn’t strong enough in my opinion. I usually eat wasabi that make you explode but the one in this restaurant wasn’t strong enough to make you feel knock out. Overall, the food was good. The salmon was fresh and clean cut. The teriyaki food was tasty and delicious.

My friend and I picked up dinner here the other night as it was the local sushi spot. The place was cute on the inside and nice & toasty. We placed a to go order and then walked over to Panada Express to pick up food for her kids. So we got food and came back to pick up our order. We still waited a while for our 3 rolls. A bit too long in my opinion. We got home and had the sushi and ehh. I’ve had better. We weren’t too impressed, and I don’t think the fact that it was to go impacted the taste.

I’ve actually been here a few times, and I do recall that the food was good, and the service wasn’t too bad either. Fast forward maybe a year or so, and things have most definitely changed! Walked in, greeted immediately by the sushi chef and our waitress(Jocelyn). We didn’t really order anything out of the ordinary, so I wasn’t expecting any type of surprises. I ordered Salmon Teriyaki and Shrimp Tempura Roll Sushi. Not all Japanese restaurants offer brown rice, but these guys do! Huge plus in my book! My counterparts ordered Chicken Teriyaki, Gyoza, California Roll, and their Lion King Roll. As you can see, we don’t order any of the super fancy/pricey raw stuff. I know, pretty boring for you folks that order all the specialty sushi’s, but we just stick to our favorite dishes and COOKED rolls. Salmon Teriyaki: This was cooked perfectly, and was super moist! They put just the right amount of teriyaki sauce, and their portions are generous. Coupled with most brown rice(Which is rare), this dish was on point. Lion King Roll — Shrimp Tempura Roll — Cali Roll — Veggie Egg Rolls: Again, simple rolls, but everything about these rolls were spot on! From the perfectly baked salmon, to the super crispy tempura, I’d order these rolls every visit. Their California Roll is probably the only thing that doesn’t stand out, but hey, there is not much you can do with imitation crab right? Their egg rolls were crispy golden brown without the extra grease dripping down your fingers. Side note: They actually have another location across the way, but the service there pales in comparison. Actually, I’ll be blunt, The service at their other location just SUCKS! Conclusion: As of right now, this is my favorite Japanese restaurant! I’ve had bad luck at other places in terms of service alone, but these folks back their food up with service that we all deserve!

Kampai is perfect for me and my husband. I’m nearly always in the mood for sushi(which he is lukewarm on) and he is nearly always in the mood for Korean(which is mostly«meh» for me.) Kampai kills both our craving birds with one stone! I learned about Kampai from my parents after complaining about the wait for ChaCha. I’m so glad they told me about it! It’s always practically empty when we’re there, which is a huge mystery to me. The sushi is really good. They don’t overdo it on the rice, and the fish is always fresh-tasting. Good combinations of flavors in the rolls. My husband always gets the bibimbap in the hot stone bowl, and says it is on par with any high-quality Korean restaurant. Good quality meat, and a large serving size. The service is excellent and prompt, and the waitresses always give us little freebies which is nice of them. I really wish they got more business. They’re just as good as ChaCha, and no crazy lines!

Om nom nom. Delicious! First time here last night and it was great! Boyfriend and I came here at 8:30pm after seeing it on Unilocal. The décor is very exciting with orange walls and lighted glass cases at the window. Very clean place. Our waitress was very prompt and polite. She checked on us frequently. Great service =) We had the lion king roll, T-ara roll, seafood udon, and he got a bento box for himself. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Our only complaint was that the rice in the bento was in a giant wad but it is most likely because it was the end of the day and we got the last of the rice. Would recommend!

I got sushi here a couple of weeks ago, and it was tasty. There were only two servers and it was busy. Overall I had a good experience. The fish was tasty and the lady gave me a cash discount.

I have agree with the other reviewers that ramen is not their strong suit. However, I still love everything else I’ve had here! Definitely a good place to grab a bite. This restaurant has two locations — the Branham one is more like a real sit-down restaurant and the Capitol one is more like a quick lunch shop.

Kampai definitely has competition with Kenzo and cha cha very close by it, but honestly I think they can stand their ground. The fish tastes fresh. Interior is nice. Their service is on point, especially since it’s not incredibly busy, they can be more attentive to you. Don’t get me wrong, this place still gets foot traffic and the place was filled by dinner time when I went. Started with miso soup, hot and flavorful. Ordered their 49’s roll(California roll topped with salmon & lemon) and a dinner 16 piece sashimi combo of the chefs choice. We also later added on fish and chips. We were very satisfied with it all because it tasted fresh without the fishy smell/taste. The fish and chips were kind of expensive for just a couple of fish sticks and some fries, but it was still tasty. The fish inside the fish sticks were sweet and juicy. Deciding desserts took awhile for two reasons. For one, I love all desserts. Second of all, the ice cream desserts inconveniently came in only one flavor. For example they had only one flavor for mochi ice cream(strawberry), one flavor for tempera ice cream(green tea), and one flavor of sorbet(Orange). My sister wanted strawberry ice cream, but doesn’t like mochi. Decided on tempura, but realized she doesn’t like green tea. Settled for the sorbet because she was indifferent to orange. For myself I had the green tea cheesecake and fishcake ice cream. The green tea had little to no green tea flavor and was kind of hard to cut through because it was so cold and chalky. Other than that, I would come here again. Nothing too extraordinary, but definitely decent and nice to know there’s another solid sushi place close by!

My family used to be regular customers here. This place must have new cooks or something but the last time we went here, the food was terrible and the service was not great. My dad usually orders the seafood ramen, and when he ordered, the food took forever to be ready & it only had like one little piece of seafood. Also, for some reason it had egg in it. ANDDD the portion was tiny! We had our food sent back to be remade but even the second time we got our food it was bad. So we ended up leaving with a lost appetite. This place has lost costumers unfortunately. Went from being my favorite place to nothing.

Awful service. First they forgot to put in our order to the kitchen, they brought my husbands food but forgot about my order(I ordered the Hawaiian poke salad that had about 5 pieces of wakame salad in it) they never brought my husbands hot tea and then we had to flag them down to pay. Food was not spectacular.

Honestly this place has gone down hill everytime i come here. I made a Unilocal just for this because the service was just so terrible i can’t keep giving this place any more chances. I’m a simple guy and all I need is free refills on soda and booths. They don’t do either. Service has been so slow even when they have two waitresses and only three tables not even being served. Entrees aren’t served all together and your food gets cold while waiting for the other entrees to come. It took over 20 minutes for a simple rainbow dragon roll. When asked where it was, it was in the corner sitting there. Where is the communication?! If I wanted to wait for a bad quality product I would camp out for some Jordans instead. Cliff Notes: –Don’t waste your money here

Slow service. Like REALLYSLOW. Servers are bland, and not personable. Our rolls(something«BF») tasted like gas/petroleum(maybe it was torched?) The other roll, avomango, was nothing special. The only thing worthy Getting was the corn. My California hand roll was pretty good too. The roll menu, is limited, wouldn’t come back for sushi, maybe the grilled stuff. And corn.

To be clear, this is not a fusion restaurant — its a restaurant that serves Japanese and Korean foods. We ordered the sashimi combo(four types of fish that weren’t explained to us — but they were still tasty), spicy tuna roll, lion king roll, spider roll and the tempura combo. They were all at good price and tasty, except for the tempura combo. It was all veggies, with ONE shrimp. If I had thought it through, I would have gotten only the veggies. not worth the extra $ 1.50 for that one shrimp. Not a destination restaurant, but definitely one to bookmark for when you’re in the area.

Definite 4 star place and very comparable to cha cha! Hawaiian poke salad– It was kind of expensive($ 14) for what we got, but we really enjoyed it! It came covered in fish roe and was tangy and flavorful! It came with a side of their seaweed salad as well. Hamachi sashimi– 4 slices for $ 7.50. best part of our dinner hands down. The fish was super fresh, buttery and delicious and the slices were huge! Arizona roll– $ 11.95. it says spicy, but it didn’t taste spicy. I think I just have a thing for hamachi, which is why I really enjoyed this roll. I’ve also had the Jason roll and it wasn’t all that. I think cha cha’s has better specialty rolls, but I really like this place as well. The best part about this place is that there isn’t much of a wait! They’re also opening a new location in the same plaza as cha cha’s!
