Fantastic fruit, only fresh available, right off the tree. This is the last orchard in San Jose and J&P are part of the Cosentino family. You have to go every week because he only sells what is available fresh and in season from his trees.

Not as good as it used to be, overpriced this past year. What was disheartening was to see boxes of Beefsteak tomatoes last summer tucked behind his counter from another source. There was no sign indicating that the tomatoes were not from his own plants. I have purchased his«local» honey and now wondering if it’s the real deal. Disappointing.

I was out and about with friends when they drove me over to J&P Farms. It’s a little fruit stand near one of the last few(if not the last) orchards around the city. It’s refreshing to see part of San Jose the way that it use to be and we were greeted by the same Phil that you hear during the produce report on KLIV. He’s a wonderful guy who is just as passionate about growing food in person as he is on the radio. He was even cool enough to instruct me on how to rid my garden of an invasive fruit beetle, that has been terrorizing my family, without dousing my whole garden in pesticide. And it worked! Thanks Phil! You are the best! The fruit looked beautiful but because I didn’t expect to be there and didn’t have cash on me at the moment, I didn’t bring any home with me. But I have tasted his fruit through one of my friends who made/shared jam from his plums and it was nothing short of amazing. I love this business and I’ll definitely be back to support it. Tip: Bring Cash!

I would give more stars but lately I keep finding bad fruit hidden under the perfect fruit on top of the baskets. This is an honor system fruit stand, but that does not seem like an honorable practice to me. What makes this more galling is there is a table with discounted damaged fruit nearby. Why am I paying full price for bad pieces? The good fruit is ~very~ good indeed, but I am annoyed with how often this has happened this summer. It is not really cheaply priced, so I am starting to feel cheated here. The last $ 7 basket or nectarines had 3 bad ones out of 6. I will post a pic later, if I can. Ordinarily, I try to choose to Trust; but you can be sure I will check each piece in the basket… if I come here again.

Lovely place to score some good fruit and veggies for dinner. Heirloom trees and vines everything picked when it is just right.

What’s not to love about this place? It’s just so… quaint…and country, yet stuck right in the middle of a residential neighborhood in SJ. I love the fact that the fruit is hand-picked daily and sold at the side of the road in a little wooden stand. I wish there were more of these around! Most of the fruit is not organic and unless you buy the damaged/overripe fruit, the prices are a tad high, but I’ll gladly pay a bit more to support a business like this. I just tried my first prickly pear fruit there today. The owner showed me how to cut and prepare it and opened one up just to give me a taste. I, of course, bought the whole basket. Now *that* is something you can’t get at your local Safeway. Go for a drive and check it out! It might be obvious, but CASH only.

The best fruit in San Jose! Right in the middle of a neighborhood near I-85, Phil Cosentino has two acres of heirloom fruit trees; he grows and sells the ripe fruit right in front of his house and property. Each week of the summer there are new varieties of plums, peaches, nectarines, apricots, or cherries, all picked ripe. Phil is usually close by and will cut you a slice of whatever you want to try. Also, he often has baskets of marked-down fruit, great for smoothies.

Thanks to a random Facebook post in my news feed last week I found this hidden gem. I had actually seen it about 4 years ago when my son first started school down the street but I totally forgot about it. So today the boyfriend and I stopped by cause we had a hankerin’ for some fresh fruit. I’m glad we did. We got some Bing and Rainier cherries as well as some Olallie berries. They were all amazing, you won’t find fruit like this in a supermarket. We didn’t have much cash on us so we didn’t get any peaches today but we will be back. The owner was super nice and best part is, we live about 3 minutes from the fruit stand. Woohoo!

J and P Farms is a very special place. My father took me to the original Cosentino stand and now I take my daughter to J and P. I have always been teated very nicely. I always learn more about fruit when I talk to the owner. But then I don’t ignore signs and pick a box of fruit. We really enjoy the peaches, berries, nectarines, In the past, the owner has given talks about produce at libraries and had tours on the source of our food. Are these crank reviews just trying to have fewer people go their their favorite source of outstanding fruit?

The ripest peaches, nectarines and apricots. Fresh picked and the best you’ll ever taste.
