I’ve driven by this place numerous times and wondered how the food would be. Well I’m glad I finally stopped and ate there. The food was fresh-I orders prawns w/vegetables and steamed rice along with an order of potstickers. Everything had great flavor! I will definitely make this a regular spot to fill my belly.

So far, this is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve tried in the area. I just wish they delivered, but then again, if they did I’d be ordering every day!

My update is less than sparkly. It was my second stop in. I was so looking forward to killer take out that night. By the end of my meal, remorse set in. Half of the items I ordered were so disappointing. Lately, my track record for walking into a restaurant near closing time has equated to what I can chalk up as being sold reused food. You would think that typical apps like potstickers and dumplings would be sure things right? Not this time. Potstickers were small and dry. Spicy dumpling were soggy pockets of wonton tossed in thick sticky peanut butter sauce. Salt n pepper tofu was bland and rubbery. The boxes of chow mein and beef broccoli were emptied quickly. They at least packed the boxes full of food, but once again, a $ 40+ meal for 4 was not worth it. I blame myself for not just ordering the same thing as last time. It’s the last time I come here unless I’m desperate for chow fun.

Placed an order for takeout at around 9:04 when they closed at 9:30. Arrived at 9:20 and my order was hot and ready. Prices are exceptionally reasonable, I ordered war wonton soup, brown rice, chicken broccoli and garlic string beans all for about $ 30. The food was good, I would say above average typical Chinese takeout. The meat in the broccoli chicken was much more tender and seemed to be of higher quality than most run of the mill Chinese takeout places. The location is also right on the Alameda, which made it super convenient on my way home from work. Will be back when I crave some Chinese takeout!

Great prices and delicious chinese food. The selection is unbeatable and the food is great for the money. I laugh at the people who complain about service. Do you understand you are going to a fast food chinese restaurant? They don’t need to provide you with 5 star service you retard.

I love chinese food. Now sometimes you can get horrible service and great food or vice versa at restaurants. We stumbled across this spot thru Siri. My hubby was pretty much done with our last go to place. I have been told if a restaurant is empty, dont go there. Well, this place is always packed, their food speaks for itself. We always get take out, not because of the crowd but we like to dine at home. Food is Delicious! Enjoy!

Not too impressed for my first visit. I saw that they had Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce on the menu which I absolutely love, so I ordered it. I really wish I hadn’t. When I got home and opened it, I saw that it was way past its prime and, in my opinion, actually inedible and possibly unsafe to eat. The ends were slimy looking and turning brown, which I added a photo of here. I’m used to firm broccoli with clean looking ends and no discoloration. I appreciate when restaurants serve items that are fresh and, if they can’t find fresh ingredients, take something off the menu for the day until they can rather than serving customers a substandard product. You never know when someone is visiting for the first time and an experience like this could lose you a potential long time customer. Oh well. The salt and pepper fish wasn’t very crispy, but wasn’t overly salty, which was good. The bbq pork fried rice was just okay.

Took my mom there last night. Food was excellent. Mom said it was one of the best. But…younger asian gal was not friendly at all. Didnt ask us if everything was ok. Kind of had an aditude. Needs to work on people skills. Too bad though cause the food was really good.

Ordered take out from here last night. The place was packed for dinner(which is a good sign). We had beef chow fun, shrimp fried rice and Hunan chicken. I was disappointed with the flavoring and quality of the chicken, but the shrimp fried rice was great. The chow fun was good too. The food was very fresh and not as greasy as your typical Chinese food. I will definitely be coming back for the shrimp fried rice.

They prepare your food quickly and gets you in and out. Good for short lunch breaks. Their food is a bit on the salty side but still decent. I particularly like the General Tsao’s Chicken. Convenient and decent food.

Fridays are great, but considering they’re the last day of a hectic work week, my hubby and I were too beat to have a formal sit-down dinner. But as we sat there with rumbling bellies, we looked at each other with hopeful eyes and blurted out: TAKE-OUTCHINESEFOOD! After all, it’s comfort food at its simplest, right? San Jose must have THOUSANDS of Chinese restaurants because it took us at least 15 minutes to choose one from the ever-growing list of options. Finally, we landed on China Inn which had the highest Unilocal rating. I called and ordered the chow fun with chicken, and beef and scallops in a spicy garlic sauce. The lady on the phone was really quite nice and spoke in a clear and loud voice which made communication a snap. The drive took a bit longer than usual because of the traffic and my hubby couldn’t find parking since China Inn was located in downtown San Jose. What a hassle! So I quickly ran inside this TINY little establishment that had a few patrons eating inside, a short counter where you can pick up your food, and a doorway that led to an open kitchen. China Inn certainly doesn’t look spectacular, but the smell of food was delicious. For our take-out, the restaurant put everything in tight, clean plastic containers as well as two fortune cookies. Appearance wise, the color palette of both dishes were similar, but the smell was definitely very distinct. The flat noodles of the chow fun were thick and soft, and the chicken was super tender. They were cut in good bite-sized pieces and even the bean sprouts had a good crunch to them. As for the beef and scallops, the beef was our favorite, also incredibly tender and flavorful. There was a lot of spicy, garlic sauce in that dish which was a little overpowering after some time, but the vegetables, scallops, and beef still tasted great. Unfortunately, we had to pour out a lot of the sauce. The scallops were nothing special. For an über simple dinner, China Inn certainly provided great tasting food. Even the prices were awesome! Yes, there is room for improvement, but if we are ever feeling lazy about going out again, this place will certainly be at the top of our list.

Picked an order of lemon chicken Kung pao chicken egg rolls and white rice to go. One of the best Chinese food restaurants of its type that ice eaten at. Seemed a little pricy at first but once we unpacked it, it was a good portion size. If your in San Jose or if you live here you should stop by.

Food is awesome, hole in the wall spot, family run. Everyone is friendly, but the food!!! Had the Singapore Chow Fun and the Kung Pao Prawns. Flavor was excellent and the portion size is generous… Would highly recommend if you don’t care about flair, but just the food.

Mongolian beef is so yummy and tender, it’s hard to beat! Deep fried green beans were cooked to perfection and delicious! The sizzling rice soup was the only dish to disappoint, it was slightly bland, and a little light on the veggies. There are just a handful of tables, but we did not have trouble finding an empty seat, it appears that most people do take-out. Restaurant was small and clean. Next time I am in the neighborhood, I’ll be back!

This is a cute nice little restaurant best for take out orders. They do have huge portions and taste is good. We had fried rice with some general Tso chicken and Szechuan beef and both tasted the same . Good bang for buck if you want something quick to eat at home.

Took a chance on this place after looking through a couple of Unilocal reviews. This review is based on their take out service. We ordered the following items: Mongolian Beef, Shrimp Fried Rice, Beef Chow Mien, and the Tangerine Chicken. The prices were reasonable $ 7.50-$ 11.00 per item. Definitely these items could feed 6 – 8 people. The food was great. Very flavorful and tasty. I called the number provided and was promptly greeted. After putting in my order, they repeated my order and informed me of the total price. I was told the order would be ready to be picked up in 15 min. When we arrived it was a lil difficult to find parking so I would recommend taking your time to park across the street. We went straight up to the counter and provided our phone number that was associated to our order. Our food was ready to go and the staff was extremely friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone. Definitely would like to come back and experience dinning in! Would give it a 5 star if it weren’t for parking around the area! Overall score 4.5.

I first heard about this mom and pop operated and family owned restaurant from my friend Janet O.(who now lives in Denver). Another friend Mish(now living in NYC) was also a frequent diner here as well. Hubby and I stopped by here for a late lunch, after my appts at Stanford Cancer Center in Palo Alto(there’s a new second location in San Jose as of July 2015). We were able to still order off the lunch specials menu, which is good till 3pm. Hubby ordered the Kung Pao chicken/pork fried rice combo and I tried the Chinese chicken salad/pork fried rice combo. Our waitress brought out the salad dressing to our table for my order. Both dishes were full of flavor though hubby felt his dish could have been spicier. All menu items are made to order without MSG, a huge plus! Since that first visit, we have tried other menu items and liked it! We both like the clean dining area and the good service by the family that works/owns this place. It’s out of the way from where we live but it’s worth the drive if you are in the area.

I only ever order take-out from here(my family lives right down the street) but we’ve been ordering this Chinese food for years because we love it. It’s super reasonably priced, no matter how large the order is it always seems to be ready for pickup in 10 minutes, and they’ve never screwed up any of our orders. I don’t think I would ever eat in here just because it is a little small on the inside and I can get a little claustrophobic in confined areas, but the outdoor seating would prolly be cool. I’d just rather walk 5 minutes and eat it at home lol

This place is conveniently located near my place and I was craving Chinese food since it was also near a place I had to go prior. I walked towards it and immediately saw two stickers saying that Unilocal loves them and so I was more inclined to go i and be the judge of it myself. I asked the employee what’s popular there and what’s spicy since I love spicy food. She suggested kung pao chicken, general tso’s chicken, and the szechuan beef. I ended up getting the kung pao chicken. During the checkout, it was unfortunate to know that they don’t accept Discover cards. Transaction went smoothly. I noticed that they had outdoor seating so I decided to get my puppy and wait outside. I waited for about 10 – 15 minutes until my food was delivered to me. Kung Pao Chicken: 4⁄5 — It was pretty good chicken. It wasn’t spicy to me at all as it was claimed. It had an interesting zing into it. It was a bit over average but it also wasn’t the best I had. Rice: 3⁄5 — The fried rice was average. It’s definitely better than Panda Express rice. It consisted of the casual egg, peas, and carrots in the rice. Overall, this was an above average Chinese restaurant. I’m definitely intrigued to try more of what they have. For the cashier: It wouldn’t hurt to smile at the customers :)

I would definitely recommend this place as a «take out» restaurant. Though they have a few options for indoor and outdoor seating, it’s pretty cramped and to be honest, smells like the kitchen, because the kitchen is actually RIGHT there. The food: Pork potstickers: the pork had good flavor and the dipping sauces weren’t overtly salty. They paired really well together! Chow Mein(Veggie): I ordered this expecting it to actually have vegetables. What it ended up being was a box full of noddles with 3 pieces of broccoli in it. Next time, I’ll have to tell them to add more veggies to it. I also found that the dish was a bit too oily(or saucy, I couldn’t figure it out) for my taste. Chow Mein(Chicken): Same as above with the oil/saucy party, but this dish had a generous portion of chicken and the same amount of veggies that were in the Veggie Chow mein Sichuan-style String Beans w/Chicken: MYFAVORITE. The green beans are fried to perfection with amazingggg flavor. The chicken was also nice and tender, was not dry or overcooked which I’ve found in a lot of other Chinese restaurants. Overall, the food is great if you’re looking for takeout. I wouldn’t recommend this place for date night or if you’re looking to go out for dinner.
