OMG this place has changed! it is NOT Burrito Azteca again! it is called ‘something’ cantina(sorry can’t remember the actual name change)!!! AND the name change was accompanied by the CHANGEIN carne asada fries!!! a BAD change! i did NOT like it at all… booooo, i thought i found my norcal spot for carne asada fries, but now i am left to the drawing board… again!!! what exactly has changed??? the fries are thinner, the meat is just okay, and the cheeese, the cheese was devastatingly horrid. oh mayn! the only thing that actually saved the taste was their hot sauce, which is kinda similar to la vic’s famous sauce.

Love love this place! They sell menudo for those who like it, on Sundays, but you have to get their early to get your bowl because they only make one batch! A large is HUGE! So splitting one is better, or have a small bowl with something else. I love their chips! I usually judge a Mexican place by their child and there’s a fresh and oily! My fav. The people are so nice and fast workers. No Mexican fountain drink though!

Awesome mexican food! I usually get the enchiladas and burritos but I’m tempted to tried everything else!

Azteca has some of the worst tasting Mexican food I have ever had. I have tried several different items on the menu and all have been really bad. The meat does not taste as it should. The salsas are lacking serious flavor or punch. This place needs a serious re-vamp of their food because the location is great so there is real potential for great business.

I decided to try this place out since it had so many good reviews. BADIDEA! the food here is disgusting. I ordered the chicken deluxe quesadilla which came with a side of lettuce with sour cream, cheese, and a slice of tomato on top of the shredded lettuce. the quesadilla was so soggy. They used shredded chicken so the sauce from the chicken made the quesadilla soggy and there was NO cheese inside the quesadilla! all the chicken was falingl out of the soggy tortilla when I tried to eat it. what kind of quesadilla is that? I also ordered the deluxe nachos. another bad choice! There was barely any carne asada and the cheese was NOT melted. They also forgot tho put sour cream on the nachos so it was so dry. I basically paid 7 dollars for a bunch of chips with shredded cheese in box. What a waste of 15 dollars for both items. Maybe I should have just tried the fries since most of the reviews are about how good theyre supposed to be. Either way, I would never go back, not to even try to fries. There are better mexican places for cheaper around.

I love Burrito Azteca. I’ve been coming here for over 3 years now for my Mexican food fix. Large variety of dishes on the menu, ranging from authentic Mexican cuisine(tamales, pan dulce, even menudo) to more Cali-Mex items such as the steak fries and the California burrito. Everything is prepared fresh, of course, as no self-respecting taqueria would do otherwise. The facility is spacious and clean. Free refills for soft drinks and complimentary chips and salsa if you’re dining in. The steak fries here are absolutely delicious. Large-cut fries, a hearty amount of beef, and a heaping layer of cheese to top it all off; not enough to engulf the entire meal but just enough so that you can get a little bit of queso in every bite. Guac and sour cream on the side and your choice of red, green, or orange salsa. I usually stick with the red; green doesn’t have enough«kick» for me and orange isn’t authentic enough. The California burrito is great as well; basically steak fries rolled up into a tortilla, minus the sour cream. Some other delectable choices include the burrito mojado(your standard burrito drenched in a cheese-based salsa) as well as their tacos, which come with A LOT of meat compared to most other taquerias. Most items on their menu can be had either a la carte or part of a platter, which also comes with rice and beans. Prices are fairly cheap; $ 6.19 + tax for most of their burritos and their steak fries and somewhere around $ 1.60 + tax for their tacos. Definitely great«bang for the buck». Did I mention free refills? Sorry, I’m still a little bitter from my experiences at La Vic’s, which charges 60 cents per refill. Only a couple of complaints about this place. It takes awhile for your food to come out — about a ten-minute wait today for my steak fries, and no one else was in line before me — but its definitely worth it if you can spare some time. I’ve also gotten a burrito with super salty meat in it once, just ONCE. Considering that I’ve been going here for over three years, though, that’s not too bad. Definitely a good spot to go if you’re feeling especially hungry — these meals really fill you up. As a last note, the red-haired woman who works the register here is SUPER nice. I’ve come here so many times that she affectionately calls me «mijo» now!

Not the most authentic Mexican food I have had, but you gotta love this place. Plentiful portions at a decent price. The restaurant is always clean and service is good. I love how the food tastes really fresh here. Im not so much a fan of the chicken here so carne asada is the way to go for me!

I hate to write a bad review of this place because a friend of mine knows the owners. A bunch of girlfriends and I came here for our monthly book club to check it out since it was recommended by a friend. I ordered the enchiladas and an order of the carne asada fries that were raved so highly on here. You order at the register and they bring it to your table. Unfortunately this was probably some of the worst Mexican food I have ever had in my life. The carne asada fries were disgusting and my enchiladas were bland and the sauce was watery. Ick! Even the beans and rice were not very fresh. Such a letdown since I paid $ 16 for both items. I’ve had better food at Taco Bell… honestly! The only great thing about the night was the awesome DJ playing that night. It helped keep my mind off the crappy food we all just ate.

My favorite place for Mexican food. I love the workers there, very friendly. The are very supportive of your needs. They helped raise money for the school I teach at. They closed the restaurant early so that I can have my B-day there. The veggie quesadilla are good, but my favorite is the steak and egg burritto. I go at least once a week.

One of the few places in SJ that serves Carne Asada Fries(«Steak Fries») and California Burritos. They’re no San Diego fries but they work. The food taste fresh so it takes em a while to prepare everything. And their menu has a wide variety of mexican food, although a little pricey. The carne asada fries were OK and the enchilada combo wasn’t that great, but if you eat there you get free chips and salsa. Still, love the hidden location and with lots of room for indoor and outdoor seating — almost no lines for the few dinner times I’ve been there. And love how they have a TV(only one though). Feels home-y. 3-stars for great location, friendly service, and OK food. I’d come back!

EDIT9÷16÷2011 — After new management, not so great anymore. Excellent Mexican food. Hidden in the beautiful Evergreen area, it’s a little restaurant but don’t judge the book by it’s cover. Mexican food is my least favorite food but I would have to say that this place beats Taco Bell and Iguana’s for me. I always order 1 thing — POPEYEBURRITO. The best burrito I’ve ever tasted. The burrito is fairly large that an average adult would have a hard time finishing it without feeling overly full, and the price is great! They take a few minutes to prepare/cook but it’s so worth the wait. At least you know they are preparing it fresh.

This is located in the old Lunardi’s shopping center where a lot of folks from the community come to hang out at the large fountain, shop at the farmers market, or shop at the Walgreens… I wasn’t too impressed with their carne asada burrito. The meat tasted at least a day or two old. The place is always empty which makes me question how fresh the food is and how slow the turnover is. I really wanted to like this place… I really did. I may give it another try as my friends say it’s one of their favorite places… I’ll submit a follow-up review when I do. Until then… unfortunately, I have to give it 2 stars.

2.5 stars After biking and a smoothie, we were a bit hungry so we ventured into Burrito Azteca. We’ve eaten here before but I don’t review past restos(unless it was pretty incredible) until I come there again since my memory is really crappy! We ordered steak fries and a deluxe burrito. After about 10 – 15 minutes, our food came out. The fries looked delicious, but they weren’t that great. The fries were a bit overfried and underflavored. Same with the bits of steak on top. The cheese didn’t seem to go very well with this dish because it lacked in flavor as well. I didn’t have any of the deluxe burrito so I have no say in that but my husband said it wasn’t so bad. One thing I’d mention is that the tall, lanky Mexican woman working there was not very friendly and a bit rude. When I asked for sauce for the burrito she just stopped me short and asked me which sauce… I didn’t like that. I think I’d rather go to Quizno’s next door if I’m ever hungry and in the area :)

If you’re looking for a traditional tacqueriea(I know I spelled that wrong) with the tacos, lengua, and the other things that I’ve come to love at those types of establishments, then you might want to go somewhere else. That being said, this place still isn’t bad, if not different. Normally, I like to go to Super Tacqueria for my burrito fix. Call it a chain if you want, but burritos are good there. The only thing is that it’s a biatch to find parking, and since I was around the area, I tried the Azteca. I was pretty surprised about the boldness of their menu. They have a lot of variety, and it really drifts away from a traditional Mexican burrito. For my meal, I ordered the cheesesteak burrito. Carnesada, cheese, mushrooms, and onions. After my first bite, I’d say it was pretty decent. Size was allright, and the ingredients were all okay. Wouldn’t say anything blew my mind, but I did enjoy trying something different. They take phone orders here too. The only gripe is that they don’t have salsa stations, they give it to you, and the salsa is rather sparing :-\

Steak fries, definitely the steak fries. I also had a chicken enchilada and the horchata. Off the hook! I was surprised at the amount of fries i’d be getting. I only finished half. Really chill place to get dinner. Lots of choices on the menu. I love it.

Steak and Mushroom burrito was pretty good. A little on the pricey side for a burrito but good. I guess I’m comparing this to Iguana’s burrito which is somewhat in the area too. This place is missing a salsa bar and some modern background music. I’ll come back and get the steak fries next time.

Kim M. and I were hun-gary, it was possibly from staying up till 4:30AM and waiting up just before noon with only Starbucks in our system. I suggested BA since Kim is allergic to pretty much to … a lot of things I love to eat. However, Mexican food came pretty close for us to be ideally satisfied. I believe I got the Deluxe burrito and split it with Tim and Kim got 2 tacos with came with a huge side of lettuce and what not. Half of that burrito made me super full, I couldn’t even finish the rest of the empty tortilla end. The only thing that made me shudder a bit, was the fact that my churro arrived right when we were about to leave and that the middle of it was cold. Not just room temp cold but like chilly– cold for San Jose weather cold. What the heck? I’m starting to think that these churros are not«made to order» after all :C

My workout buddies and I have difficulties deciding where and what to eat on Sundays. Except this past Sunday, when one of them suggested Burrito Azteca because it was near their house and they recommend it. That was a relief and saved some brain cells at the same time. Plus, BA accepts credit cards…+1. Parking at the place wasn’t a problem on this day, but I can see how it could be problematic as much of the parking is street parking. The interior of the restaurant is clean and spacious as was their kitchen. I settled on their Burrito Azteca since I was in a rush for some retail therapy. The burrito was ok. I couldn’t taste or feel the chicken that was in the burrito. My friends got their lunch plates which looked far more appetizing. We did see their carne asada fries but we chose not to get it since it would have wasted the workout we just did.

The food isn’t the greatest tasting. It could be bland at times depending on what you order. However, the long list of vegetarian options is always appealing. The veggie super burrito is just so satisfying. The people who work there are super sweet. The atmosphere is very calming and I’ve never gone in where it’s overcrowded or congested. Located in the Evergreen Square, I would stop by here to grab lunch on the way to work or grab dinner when I come home from work. The prices are actually about the same as many other Mexican restaurants I’ve been to.
