Fresh roasted chestnuts? Score! I’ve never had fresh chestnuts so when I was this outside Mitsuwa I was super excited. I was sorta skeptical trying but my friends and I were standing outside deciding where to go next, since we were standing in front of the stand I walked over to buy some. I got 1 pound which was $ 11. When you get them right away they’re still slightly warm, they also give you a chestnut opener. Warm chestnuts on a cold rainy day is the best! They are cash only. They also give you a chestnut opener. If you eat them warm, the inner skin is less likely to stick but it being cold isn’t hard to get the peel off either. I also had them slightly cold which was fine for me. Just as good, but now that I know how to reheat them definitely will be reheating them next time I get them and it’s no longer warm. If you’ve never had them, I highly recommend getting a small bag. If I remember correctly they sell them by ¼ lb, ½ lb and 1 lb. Definitely will be getting more next time I’m here.

My favor place for chestnuts. Ranch 99’s Korean chestnuts just can not compare. It is small but sweet. 1 lb is about right for 3 of us.

Who can resist the smell of roasted chestnuts… We couldn’t, that was for sure, as we got of our cars, we could smell the roasted chestnuts… At 11 a lb, definitely a bargain, they rarely have those stands anymore… We got quite a few lbs as we left the supermarket, it was delish… By the time I got back to Oakland, they were cold, so I called the number on the bag to ask how do we heat them up, he said at 350 for 5 minutes… yay

The chestnuts here are so good. Freshly roasted and sweet! The first time I only purchased ¼ lb and wished I had purchased more. The next time I purchased ½ lb and once again wished I had purchased more. I will definitely purchase a full lb next time because it is that good! Yum yum yum. Peeling/cracking can be a pain, but that’s because I haven’t mastered the art of peeling/cracking chestnuts yet. Service is friendly. It always feels good to support small businesses!

I love their roasted chestnuts so much! Located in front of Mitsuwa market on Saturdays and Sundays only, I eagerly count down the days until I can grab my next 1lb bag. They stay open until their bin runs out of chestnuts. The latest I’ve been able to successfully get to them is about 4 – 4:30pm. During my last visit on a Sunday, there was a super-friendly gal working and patiently answering all my questions. She informed me that they do add some sugar during the roasting process, but ONLY to prevent the chestnuts from sticking together while also adding a light shiny coat. The sugar does not get inside the chestnut itself, so the sweetness is the true taste of their freshly roasted chestnuts, no funny business. I asked for tips on how to get them open in one piece and she said that the best way to crack chestnuts is to do it while they are still warm– the inner skin is less likely to stick to the meat. Also, reheating is best performed at 300 degrees for 4 minutes in the oven. Wow, not only do they sell delicious fresh chestnuts, they’re glad to give helpful hints too! Note: They’re unavailable for a few months during the summer, but present for most weekends out of the year.

I love this place so much! I usually buy 1 lb of roasted chestnuts every time I go to Mitsuwa(they’re only there on weekends). That bag lasts me a few days. The chestnuts are fresh and piping hot because they’re made on the spot. The flavor is smoky with a hint of sweetness and it tastes way much better than the pre-packaged ones you get at the asian grocery store. One time, I noticed the man in charge of roasting them pouring a jug of molasses into the roaster. No wonder why they’re slightly sticky when you touch them! They’re bite size and super easy to crack open with the little tool that they give you. You crack a chestnut by pressing the serrated side on the roundest end and then using the spoon to lift open the shell. The price for 1 lb is $ 10 and $ 6 for ½ lb. The owners are generally nice and polite too. Don’t forget to bring cash when you go there :)

We love warm chestnut on cold winter day and always drop by Anson for a 1 lb bag of warm chestnut. It does get cold by the time we got home and we reheat again the over. The price is very steep and expensive $ 10 for 1 lb but it is nice. It come with a little opener.(see my picture). The kids always friendly and will give you sample or tips to open the chestnut. They are roasted at the stall. They are open on weekend only I was told and cash only.

This place is literally outside the doors of Mitsuwa Market. They have a tiny cart and a cooker right around the pole. Good stuff and seems like they are very popular! We waited about 5 minutes to get our hands on some hot chestnuts! This reminds me of the ones I used to get with my dad in Hong Kong. Flavor is good and when you are standing there while the chestnuts are cooking, it smells delicious! If you haven’t tried it before, get in line and grab yourself some!
