Golden Deli Custom Cakes and Cupcakes

We ordered 120 red velvet cupcakes with vanilla/​cream cheese buttercream topping and 1 small cake with vanilla buttercream for my wedding. Now, I’m generally VERY picky with my cupcakes. By picky, I mean extremely critical about texture, moisture, taste, sweetness, everything. Thi’s (the baker, not a typo for «this» lol) cupcakes are by far the best I have ever had! Perfectly balanced in every aspect. Moist, great crumb, flavor on point. These are not «too sweet» and the buttercream topping was soooooo good (light, creamy, not overly sweet). I’ve tried many other of the «top» bakeries in the Los Angeles area based on Unilocal reviews and word of mouth. They don’t hold a candle to the cupcakes from here. The cake was good as well.
I highly recommend them. People were still talking about the cupcakes days after the wedding!!!
By the way, like everyone else said, this is basically a business within a business. The address is for a Vietnamese phở restaurant. They have rotating flavors in the case sometimes (you have to ask for them). But if you want a specific large order, contact Thi in advance. She’s pretty heavily booked for weddings and special occasions from what I gather. But if you want a tasting, let her know and arrange to taste different flavors (it was no charge and we got to taste 3 different cupcakes, which were all very good, but the red velvet stood out and it happens to also be our favorite flavor).

+Acquaintance of mine informed me that Golden Deli’s owner’s daughter (Thy) makes BOMB cupcakes and she’s starting her own business. I was skeptical at first but when I first tried her red velvet cupcake, I fell in LOVE! All of her cupcakes are super moist and not overly sweet, which is PERFECT. Thy always keeps her cupcakes in the fridge so I think that’s what keeps the cupcakes moist. So thoughtful of her!
+Thy’s cupcakes aren’t just good but it LOOKS amazing too. You can tell she puts a lot of effort into the decoration of the frosting as well. If the cupcakes are Ferrero Rocher flavor, she puts Ferrero Rocher on top of the cupcake. If the cupcake is cookies n’cream flavor, she puts crushed oreo on top of the frosting, etc. Do yourself a favor and flip through the photos posted on Unilocal and you’ll know what I’m talking about. Her cupcakes are too BEAUTIFUL. amen!
+Thy offers different flavors every week and she has crazy varieties. My favorites are red velvet and strawberry milk tea but honestly everything I ate so far were all AMAZING.
+Thy offers stamp cards. If you buy 10 cupcakes, you get 1 free!
+Thy also takes order for custom cakes. Just like her cupcakes, she puts SOOO much effort on the decoration and cake toppers. I mean it’s crazy how pretty and realistic her toppers are. Her cakes are so damn popular that custom cake orders are booked all the way to September of this year or something crazy.
I honestly don’t have any complaints about her cupcakes or the fact that it’s sold inside golden deli (c’mon guys, get over yourself! Who cares if it’s sold inside a phở restaurant? –_​_​_​_​_​_​-​)

Only stopped by for cupcakes but they were delicious and very soft!

Thy Do was easy to work with. In this age of smart phones, we were able to take care of the order by texting. I was fortunate that she could fit me into her full schedule so that I could have an incredible cake and cake pops for my mother’s 70^th birthday. What I expected was pretty nice. What she created was realistic art! The roses were so lifelike that it was almost a shame to eat them. But eat them we did. The durian macadamia cake and rose and logan pops. She used real fruit for each, not powders or flavoring. Real bits of logan fruit. The durian cream was incredible. For both realism and taste, she used modeling chocolate rather than fondant. This was both dessert and a gift for a mother who has everything, so she is difficult to shop for. These were something unique that she has not had before. If I had another custom cake order, Thy is my to go person, assuming she can fit new in again.

I bought a birthday cake for my sister and we were blown away by how great it was! Thy is the best! Her craftsmanship and attention to detail is unbelievable! She is also super friendly and professional: every question that I had was promptly answered.
Aside from the aesthetics of the cake, the taste was incredible! It was moist, light and full of fresh strawberries! I will not be going anywhere else for cakes!!!

Not really a bakery.
Walked into the restaurant and they have 2 types of cupcakes available, to order custom cupcakes I was given a card so I could e mail them.
I e mailed and they replied stating that they were busy with custom orders until September, 9 months later! They are really busy!

Very helpful and nice services. I ordered cakes for my wedding and my niece birthday. If you are looking for pretty cake to surprise ur occasion, you are in the right place. I guarantee you won’t disappoint the out come of the cake. She is very patient with me when dicuss about the cake even though I changed my requests many times. She also offeres alot of rare flavors which other bakery stores don’t offer. The quality of the cake is very good and not really dry compare to other bakery.

Came to buy cup cakes. THIS PLACE IS NOT A BAKERY. It’s a vietnamese food place. Actually a lot of people come by for food. Cup cakes are made THURSDAY and they DO NOT bake anymore until following Thursday. I happened to come by week of Labor Day. (FRIDAY) and they said they did not bake this week cause it was a short week. I was very disaapointed.

This place is still one of the best places to get cupcakes. I had the opportunity to sit and dine at the tester ain’t as well. I have to say the food is always good (explains the long line) and the service is always friendly. I love how every week there is always something new to try when it comes to dessert and I always look forward to coming.

Thy was referred to me through a friend. Originally, I was searching for a bakery that delivered, but I somehow fell into asking a friend where she got her cake from, and she referred Thy from Golden Deli. I first decided to stalk the IG acct and check out all of her cakes and then I figured why not, just INQUIRE… I’m the lazy type so if my first inquiry works out, then I just stick to it.
Thy herself, is awesome. The email I sent her was real vague, I didn’t know what I wanted and all I did was send her a copy of my son’s bday invitation. She then (promptly) responded with a quick sketch of a cake. Immediately, I was like COO, I’ll take it. She works with you, and I like that. She also doesn’t require a deposit (not as of now at least — that alone, made me paranoid, but whatever, I was too busy to worry about it, and again, she was referred by a friend.
The cake turned out awesome. I knew it would be… all the cakes she was posting on IG were FABULOUS. My next «issue» was which flavor to pick… on the golden deli website she provides, they have TONS of flavors… — yes that’s a perk, but I’m handicapped when it comes to too much variety. I ended up choosing Strawberry White Chocolate, and yes, it was DELICIOUS~!! Even after being refrigerated for days I feel like it tasted even better… good stuff. I sent her an email afterwards and thanked her even more. I feel like I should’ve tipped her, but I had my cousin pick the cake up and pay for it for me, so it didn’t cross my mind till after the fact. She truly has a gift. To pull something out of my empty mind and make it happen… SKILLS.

So glad there are still cupcakes left :’) I’m well aware that they tend to sell out fast. They’re soft, moist & tasty! First time, have yet to try other flavors: D ~
Thy (the pastry chef & awesome creator) makes cupcakes mostly on her days off or when she has time. New flavors every week unless she is very busy, so when you get the chance, snag a cupcake or two! ^_​/​^

This is a Vietnamese restaurant, NOT a cupcake or dessert place! The restaurant claims they do sell cupcakes sometimes but not this week… this is not for deserts

My housemate actually brought a cake from here home for us to try. The cake was custom-​made for his dad’s birthday and the design was spectacular. You can tell the owner took great lengths to make sure every detail was meticulously constructed and placed with care.
On to the taste of the cake itself, which was Vietnamese coffee flavored. The cake was extremely moist and had a nice, strong coffee flavor. I was actually impressed at how moist the cake remained even after being in the fridge for about a week (it was a huge cake requiring multiple days of consumption). The creamy icing somehow managed to be both dense and fluffy, and complemented the baked portion of the cake really well. I also liked that it wasn’t too sweet, as a lot of cakes tend to overwhelm your taste buds with pure sweetness and sugar.
This place is known for their cupcakes as well, so I’d definitely come by and try them as well!

REVIEWING: Cupcakes and Specialty Cake
Highlights:
–The cake is really moist (I know some people don’t like that word, but get over it).
–The frosting is paired perfectly with the cake portion.
–Great balance of sweetness (I love cakes and cookies, but I don’t like my desserts tasting like I’m going to die from Diabetes.)
–Creative flavors and frostings. (especially Durian Macadamia Nut).
–Owner is very open minded and willing to work with customers (specialty cakes and custom flavors).
Cupcakes:
–I have tried cupcakes from a lot of different places, but the ones that Thy (owner) puts out on the cupcake market are my top pick. She has a great palate for pairing delicious cupcakes from cake to frosting. From every cupcake that I have tried, her cake remains consistent quality wise. The cake is really moist and full of flavor. My top three that I have tried so far are 1. Durian Macadamia Nut (strange, but oddly the best), 2. Blackberry lemon (I am a berry person), and 3. tied between Ferrero Rocher (Limited flavor) and the Red Velvet with a chocolate chip cookie on top.
Specialty Cake:
–Thy is extremely talented and went out of her way to make the best cake I have ever seen and/​or tasted. The occasion for the cake was for my Dad. Even though his birthday is in May, I get to see him only once a year (mainly December — February). It also makes it difficult since I work far from home (about 8 hours drive away). Back to the review, I informed Thy of the situation and gave her simple instructions since it was such a late order. I requested a cake that would be able to represent Alaska (since that’s where I was born and raised, and also since my dad still works up there). I kept my request simple and gave her artistic freedom. On the day of the event (held at Golden Deli restaurant), She amazed my family and me. I was speechless because she was basically able to instill my childhood into a cake (ice fishing, seeing random moose in my yard, and a bear catching salmon in a waterfall). The flavor of the cake was Vietnamese coffee, which tasted extremely amazing (she infuses the actual coffee into the buttercream frosting too). I am glad I got to experience a specialty cake from her (especially since she is always booked). Her product is on point both visually and taste wise. As for pricing, I kept trying to give her more money than what she took from me. The amount of detail she put into the cake was truly amazing and seeing my dad’s reaction was worth every moment. I extremely recommend her product and services to anyone who is looking to bring that «WOW» factor cake for any type of event.

I had two weeks to find a bakery for my daughter since she wanted everything all chocolate plus butterflies.
So I emailed Thy and she responded within 10 mins later! Good thing she was able to squeeze me into her busy schedule for a small cake for my daughter since I only gave her a week notice.
I loved that she answered all my questions/​concern via email and the price was decent.
Everyone LOVED the cake especially the little kids! LOL
I mean, even though its all chocolate inside and out, I was kinda worried it might be a little too sweet or just too much chocolate but just one bite out of the cake, just melts in your mouth!
Cake reminds me of eating fudge brownie/​flourless cake…

The first time I found out that Golden Deli was selling cupcakes was a few months ago, when I looked up «cupcakes» on Unilocal around San Gabriel area. Like most people already familiar with Golden Deli (probably), I was like .wtf? But then I started following it on Instagram and realized these are LEGIT.
Presentation wise, so so beautiful. I’m a baker myself, and appreciate some beautiful ass cupcakes. I mean seriously, some of the prettiest cupcakes I’ve ever come across!
Flavors… SO creative. I wouldn’t have thought up some of the flavors they have, but they all sound so delicious. They have weekly flavors and I’m always tempted to come in everytime I see them on Instagram.
I finally got to try their cupcakes last week, and I thought I’ve already hyped myself up too much to be impressed (one of my many problems). But I was!
The flavors I tried were:
Café Sua Da
Brown Sugar Banana
Strawberry Coconut
I LOVED the brown sugar banana & strawberry coconut. Honestly I don’t even like pastries with coconut but I really liked that cupcake. I do love strawberries, and that strawberry flavor in the cake and frosting was awesome. Also the bananaaaayyyyy… just lovely. The coffee flavor was also good, I just prefer the other two more.
They were perfectly sweet (aka «Asian» sweet… if that makes any sense) (ok fine. in other words, just not that sweet). I didn’t even have to scrape off any frosting like I do with Sprinkles. The frosting’s light and fluffy, and wonderfully complemented the cakes. The cakes were MOIST. They were even moist after I fridged them.
Anyway, my point is THEY’RE GOOD! Don’t let the Golden Deli foods fool you!

After following Bakery Twenty Seven on Instagram, I knew it would be a great place to order a custom made cake for an upcoming baby shower for a friend /​co-​worker.
I went on the Bakery Twenty Seven website and found that they offered such unique flavor combinations. I immediately gravitated towards the Red Velvet S’mores and knew that was the flavor I wanted to try for my custom cake.
I filled out my contact information on the website and within a couple hours Thy, the owner and pastry chef e-​mailed me back asking what colors and design I wanted on the cake and provided me an estimate. Thy was very helpful with the entire process; she answered any questions and concerns in a timely fashion.
She even offered me a Sample Box of four different flavors that she was working on that week when I dropped off my cake deposit at the Golden Deli restaurant (Bakery Twenty Seven is located inside). I tried the Nutella, Vanilla Strawberry, Pumpkin Cheesecake, and Red Velvet. All of the cupcakes were delicious and had just the right amount of sweetness.
I picked up the baby shower cake at the Temple City location since the San Gabriel location is closed on Wednesdays. Thy was very sweet in informing me that the cake would be heavy, so I made sure I brought one of my male co-​workers with me ;).
I was so happy with the outcome of the cake. The mommy-​to-​be and everyone at work was so impressed with the cake that they didn’t want to cut it because it looked so awesome. The Red Velvet S’Mores cake was so yummy, I enjoyed every last bite.
I definitely would recommend Bakery Twenty Seven if you have a special occasion and would like quality fondant work, attention to detail decorations, and a moist delicious cake. I was so impressed with her work that I ordered another custom cake from her for my nephew’s 1^st birthday. I am excited to see another masterpiece! :D

I had the strawberry cheesecake cupcake and it was delicious! The frosting on top tasted just like its name and wasn’t overly sweet/​thick like some LA places. Very well done.
I do wish the cupcake portion was less oily though. I’ve never had a cupcake quite this oily, it was a little disconcerting.

I’ve had tons of cupcakes and this place became one of my favorites after eating one. I now understand why this place is and should be five stars. After a few failure attempts of trying to get a cupcake, I finally know how to get a hold of one of these delicious gems!
It’s best to CALL IN ADVANCE and see if the cupcakes are in stock! The owner is the only person making the cupcakes and she usually delivers a lot of cupcakes on Thursdays/​Fridays and the cupcakes sell out fast! (that’s why I always have no luck whenever I go to the restaurant on Tuesday)
I tried their Samoas, Red Velvet and their Chocolate Mint cupcakes and they were both phenomenal. Both of the cupcakes were not too sweet and had the perfect touch to ‘em. The Red Velvet cupcake is seriously the best red velvet you’ll ever have.
Please note that these cupcakes are currently being sold at Golden Deli restaurant. Don’t be skeptical or thrown back by the location and tell the waitresses that you’re here for the cupcakes. I usually walk in and go to the cashier to order my cupcakes for take out and head out!
