Love this place. it is actually better then the Northwoods Inn. We prefer to eat here. Fro some reason the quality of food here is amazingly better then at the restaurant. We drive form Orange County every couple of months ot eat here.

Great atmosphere for a large family get together. I like the sports bar/cabin feel of the place. Can’t go wrong with the salad and bread — my go to order! The chicken dinner is huge so plan to share! Lots of seating but it does get crowded during big events and on weekends.

«The Boat» is a place we have to hit up every time we come to Southern California. Our go to items are the red cabbage salad and cheese bread. Everytime a family member comes here they are required to bring some back to Northern California to share. The pastrami sandwich and French dip are some of my other favorites. Anything I’ve tried here was good.

So I go to the boat tonight with my friend and kids. So there is a total of 5 of us then I also place a to go order for my husband plus 2. I specifically told the lady at the counter to hold off on making the to go order. What do you know I received my to go order about 8 minutes before our food arrived. Frustrated. It better be the same Food or I’m giving them a 1.

I’ve been putting off this review for a long time, knowing that simply thinking about The Boat brings back a flood of memories. You see, growing up, we ate at Clearman’s Galley so often, we came to know the staff like family. When my mom was younger, she used to see the owners, John and Mercedes Clearman, come into her job at Pasadena Federal Bank(now long gone), and as I understand it, she was pals with Wallace Clearman, their son. Back then, «The Boat» as it was lovingly known, was a family-style restaurant that complemented the other theme restaurants on the property– the North Woods Inn and the Golden Cock(yeah, yeah…) In my youth, the Boat was a place where biker gangs and families could share one of those big wood tables without fearing each other, and get down with big chili burgers, purple cabbage salad, and their famous cheese bread. A bank of video games, two large and impossible-to-see big screen TVs in the corners found us sitting there many times watching the Dodgers, the Lakers, the Kings, and other local teams with 500 of our closest, cheering friends. Strangers all, but the place had a way of bringing people together. Today’s Galley is a shadow of what it once was. The food tastes more or less the same, but the vibe is completely different. I’m sure the place has been brought up to modern health & safety code specs, and the long, heavily lacquered tables of the old restaurant have been replaced with regular restaurant-style seating. I like the food, but I loved the old Boat, and candidly, we just don’t go to the Galley like we used to. You can still tilt a few back here, have a big chili-smothered burger and a heaping pile of purple cabbage salad. There are a million flat screens featuring every sport on earth, including a few you’ve never heard of. And yet I miss that cacophonous din of echoey voices mixing together in one large dining hall room, the sound of the busy grill and chow line, the dory boats in the middle holding the condiments, the big fire pits inside the restaurant. I suppose Kohl’s is more profitable, but for a place where the atmosphere was the draw, and the food was secondary, the Galley isn’t the Boat, and never will be.

The two stars are for the condition of the bathroom. When we arrived after a long golf game went to use the restroom and it was dirty and out of toilet paper. Had to use a waxie to clean up if you know what I mean. Told one of the waitresses and figured it would be handled. Hour later after dinner and beer go back to the bathroom and now 3 out of 4 stalls have no toilet paper!!! Wtf! Poor management and discipline for their employees with side duties. Food was decent even though one of our guests was forgotten. Bit of a shame. Managers time to get your crew together for some immediate training !

I’m guessing that it’s the end of an era. North Woods Inn was always the WOW family treat. Amazing bread, never ending salad and giant whipped butter potato. My wife wanted to celebrate her birthday with the HUGE shrimp they are known for. Too bad our experience was just unpleasant from beginning to end. Server was a little inattentive. Drink refills were beyond slow. Bread was dry and kinda cold!:( Salad refill? It seemed like we were stealing as I asked for more and was told he would bring more when we needed it. That never happened. I guess he felt we were full? :( Dinner– table of 9 and we had Gristly steak(sorry grandpa) Rubbery scallops Oily chicken Undercooked potatoes And worst… The GIANTPRAWNSHRIMP was small. I even ordered three extra because they were so tiny. Needless to say North Woods will have to be a memory as we won’t be wasting another penny there.

Got to know what to order here. You can never go wrong with the salads and cheese bread. Great service from busers and bar manager. Cashier Josh needs help hearing, but other then that. I enjoy this place for good food and cold drinks. It’s huge and has plenty of tvs for the games. I highly recommend!!!

My husband and I have been eating here since the 1980’s. Love the new location. The seats are comfy. Service is quick. Place is always clean. Servers are always nice and accommodating with your needs. You no longer have to go thru a order line while food is being cooked. They now take your orders and give you a number and they bring food to you, Never have had a bad meal here. Always look forward to coming here even though we live 20 miles away.

Where do I start. The burger? The bread? The fries? I want it all! The cheeseburger is to die for. They throw thousand island and chili inside of it. How dare they make it so darn delicious! I want one right now. And I just had it yesterday! You have been warned, their cheese bread is addicting. The first time I tried it, the bread was soft and buttery and melted in your mouth. Last night’s bread was a bit on the hard side but still delicious. Their crisscut fries are YUMMY! I dipped some of them in ranch sauce but they were a league of their own without it. I cannot wait to go back. I say we have a Unilocal event there!(Hint hint) :P

I have always loved the salad and cheese bread. The chili is amazing. But tonight they won me over for good with their customer service. The Unilocal page says they are open till 10, but on Sunday they actually close at 9. I showed up at the door at 9:15, really hungry! But the doors were locked. The manager saw me trying to get in and asked if I needed help. He explained that they were already closed. Disappointed, I got back in my car and called my husband to see where I should go. While I was on the phone, the manager opened up the door and waves me in. They let me order and gave me food to go(even through they had been closed for 20 minutes). I really appreciate it! Also, great food.

This is one of our favorite local happy hour spots on this side of town and recommend this place! Let me tell you why. this place is frozen in time… inside has an old school feel and good service and has a nice warm feeling. They have a large fire place in Winter and in Spring and Summer becomes a water fountain. nice place to enjoy a drink and some appetizers. They also have a lounge singer or jazz musician. this is a nice touch and good way to enjoy some drinks and company. There are lots of regulars as well and there is a large parking lot. We really like the all you can eat salad and cheese bread on the happy hour menu. The sliders are also very good. large sized and cooked to order. The shrimps are also tasty and worth trying. One of the stars on the menu is the baked potato. it is huge… best topped with the chive dressing. I tried the sirloin skewers. I was not impressed as they seemed fatty and not as lean as I prefer. Not sure if it is a regular menu item but the tiramisu cheesecake is awesome… try it! Cheers!

This place was once a close second to Northwoods. Now it is a complete miss. Perhaps a hit if you like this style but for me it was a complete miss! First the ambiance is loud and busy and cluttery and not a lunch destination. Shame it opened 30 minutes before Northwoods or I would not have gone. The burger has chili on it(I guess i missed the fine print and no one told me or gave me an option) CANNED Chile! It was disgusting. The type of chili that ghetto kids might have been forced fed with and developed some sort of addiction for it which explains the popularity. I could not eat it. The salad and cheese bread was the only thing that made me give it two stars since it is actually just like the Northwoods salad & cheesebread So if you like a noisy place to see a game in a group and if you like burgers with disgusting canned chili then I suppose this very clean place is for u.

My favorite place after a baseball game. Love this spot. We grew up going here and eating wings, half and half salad and their famous cheese bread! Yummy! The kids love their hot dogs and hamburgers. My husband loves the chili cheese hamburger.

I recently came here and wasn’t impress. The best thing here is no doubt their boat model display and the cool door entrance. Food while is no good, is noticeable worst than other place for the same money. The crispy cod fish sandwich was basically a fish burger bun. The portion is a joke basically one fish and chip(fish stick in the there). My friend order he fish and chips which has 3 fish and fries. The bun was good though, the fish was mediocre at best. The atmosphere is a very bar alike Kids will probably like this place more than an adult due to the ship model which included titanic.

November 20, 2015 Love their drinks and their burgers! I couldn’t get enough of their chili in my cheeseburger. Don’t forget their potato wedges. Those were gobbled down before the burger! Great place with great company. Service is amazing and you can sit there all day, if you wish to do so. Drinks are cheap and hits you.

It’s always a pleasure at The Boat. Brings back memories of my Dad enjoying his burger and occasionally throwing his head back and laughing at one of my Mom’s jokes. This place will always be that for me. The food is delicious! Hearty and greasy but absolutely satisfying. I recommend adding a side of the half and half salad to whatever you order. It’s the best! The cheese bread was a favorite of mine growing up, but I guess I outgrew it. It’s still delicious but two slices is too much for my tummy, even if my heart keeps telling me MORE!!! Hahaha. My husband disagrees! He can eat two orders in one sitting! I usually get chilli cheese fries, salad, and a chili dog. But I recently switched it to the Clam Chowder and salad combo and it’s so gooooooooood!!! I like to describe their chilli as a gravy like chilli. So freaking delicious. Flavorful, and just all over the place goodness. I wish I could add it to everything!!! Come here with an empty stomach and you won’t regret it!

The good food and good environment make this place a good go-to spot if you’re hungry. The pastrami sandwich and chilli burger tasted yummy. The cheese bread was a guilty pleasure, so we only had one. The pub and sports bar feel made it feel like a good place to hang out in groups with lots of big tables, open space, and televisions. The pastrami sandwich was relatively not as filled with pastrami as other places, but it was still a good sandwich, mind you.

Not as magical as I remembered. I tried their cheese bread for the first time and it was super salty. I’m not a fan of the cheese bread, personally. My boyfriend is a frequent customer of the Clearman’s Northwoods Inn right next door. He says the Inn’s cheese bread is a lot more salty than the Galley’s. My turkey avocado wrap($ 7.95) was average; it could have used more avocado. Also, it would’ve been nice if it was wrapped in a way that would allow each bite to have turkey, not just one side; or to cut the wrap straight in half instead of slanted. My boyfriend’s Philly cheese steak sandwich($ 8.95) was a little greasy but he appreciated the toasted bread and the crunchy bell peppers. I don’t think I’d come back again.
