So very sad to see this shop close. Sally is the ultimate fashionista with so much knowledge about fabrics. San Diego can’t seem to keep a couture fabric store. Thank you Sally for giving us such joy.

Sadly, The Spirit of Cloth will be closing! There will be a store closing sale from Tues-Sat: 40% off everything. Thanks, Sally, for all of the love and creativity you shared with us. We’ll miss the store, but the spirit shall live on in each and every one of your customers!

Was so disappointed at the lack of available shops for sewing materials in San Diego! So finding Sally’s store was pure serendipity! Not large by any means, but really… the quality itself more than makes up for lack of square footage. There is something for everyone in there, elegant to simple/casual. And the kimonos on the back wall are reason enough to visit this very pleasant store. Well done Sally!

This fabric story has a very small collection of designer fabrics from Amy Butler. Small store with a handful of interesting products.

A real treat. Almost a cross between a fabric store and a textile gallery. Lovely and unusual fabrics, gorgeous ribbons and buttons, and an owner who loves talking about fiber arts. Prices are very fair. Check out the vintage kimono and yukata for sale, too!

I love, love, love this fabric store. Sally is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, plus she has the best collection of specialty fabrics, buttons, closures, ribbons and more in San Diego. It’s hard to go without buying your weight in merchandise. This is a smaller store, but it is just as well. You won’t find any icky prints or cheap looking/feeling materials here. Sally has a wonderful variety of linens, silks, cottons and more. The store also specializes in selling Kimonos, scarves and handbags(I agree with Susie G that Kimonos are the specialty of the shop). No matter what you buy, Sally is selling inspiration and the materials to craft something truly special. Sally has a true passion for textiles and for her shop. This is very apparent from the moment you enter. I will return over and over again!

We happened upon this shop today after our visit to another shop in the same plaza, and even though she was closing, the owner Sally welcomed us take a look around, was friendly and helpful! My mom found a beautiful printed chiffon, meanwhile I was absolutely enamored with the wide selection of Amy Butler fabrics as well as Sally’s handmade creations: Scarves made with vintage kimono fabric and beautiful handbags! In addition to those, she also sells kimonos which I think is the specialty of the shop! While The Spirit of Cloth is small in size, I think it’s one of those places with something for everyone. I’m trying to figure out what I can make with a super cute goldfinch fabric I saw, as well as an olive green wide ribbon with gingko leaves on it… This place is an absolute must for crafty people! Sally was a sweetheart and I’ll be back to The Spirit of Cloth for sure!
