I usually eat this when I go to UTC. I near always get chicken teriyaki with extra chicken for around $ 8 or so and it’s a good portion size. They just throw everything into the box, which makes it awkward to eat sometimes, but the sauce and quantity of chicken is why I continue to eat here. It’s also reasonably healthy(in comparison to what I usually eat) and sometimes(once) I got the vegetable soba which was worth as well.

I got food poisoning the last time I went here, but you can’t beat that price. It only happened once so the odds are it won’t happen to you. Will definitely come back again and risk it. The one in Orange County is better though.

When traffic is harsh, Hubbs and me stop at the UTC mall and walk around. We usually eat at the Sarku while watching the little children ice skate. It is very nice to people watch. I like to sit a the edge and watch below at the skating rick and watch the happy children while I eat the Sarku chow mein noodles with double chicken. This dish is enough for both Hubbs and me. After we are down we usually visit See’s candies and Pirch. Only a day where we wait for traffic to clear, we like to go to Sarku!

Accidentally spilled my food(which was COMPLETELY my fault – I’m a huge klutz) and was met with a bad and pissy attitude from the employees. I’ve gotten treated better at McDonalds.

Just another mall foodie place to choose from. Nothing crazy to go crazy about. I really wish they put stroller and wheel chair ramps so you’re able to access the lower level by the ice skating rink. Over all the food was fulfilling.

I ordered the Vegetarian Zen and for a quick stop at the mall, the sushi rice was surprisingly good/fresh and portions filling. I can only speak for this option but I was impressed and won’t hesitate to go back for a sushi fix! For what you pay for, the quantity and quality are comparable if not better than sushi ki across the street.

Whenever my coworkers and I go to UTC for food, this is one of the places we eat at. The prices are good, the quantity is quite a lot without all the extra grease and they are very quick. It won’t have the best food you’ll ever have but it is pretty good and the teriyaki chicken is usually made fresh to order! You can see them just grill everything all day. My one caveat with this place is their calorie counts. There’s zero chance that those teriyaki meals are hovering around 300 calories when you top them off with that much rice! Maybe the chicken by themselves… not trustworthy! Personally my favorite order is the chicken teriyaki bento. It has the most variety out of their normal orders. It comes with teriyaki chicken over rice, four california rolls, veggie, shrimp tempura and a side salad. Each portion is decent. I don’t feel like I have too much of anything. I wish they had some kind of tempura dipping sauce for me to use but otherwise. A decent lunch! I find this bento to be better than the one they serve at their sushi sister stand on the other side of the food court.

On SEVERAL occasions I have seen the chef in the men’s restroom at this mall, he is always wearing his apron at the urinal and every time he leaves without washing his hands! I will never eat there ever!

The cooks here have never tasted Japanese food, or they just don’t care. The chicken bento was abysmal. There was no flavor to anything, the salad was brown, and the California rolls smelled fishy. Threw most of it away, and hoping I don’t get ill.

Teriyaki chicken and rice. It’s a lot of chicken and a lot of rice. It’s good chicken and good rice. No frills, no thrills. You can get double portions for an extra 1.50. what a deal. They always have someone giving out samples so if you like it and want that x100, go here.

I ordered shrimp tempura and they don’t even have tempura sauce? WTFO! No flavor on the veggies and cost a lot for 4 shrimps.

Great food! Very authentic taste for a mall chain. I enjoy the bento box. It comes with tempura veggies and shrimp, salad, 4 pieces of sushi, and of course the grilled meat. All for under $ 10. It’s not too greasy, cooked to perfection. Great alternative to not wanting to sit down and eat in a regular Japanese restaurant

I love this place! From grill to plate, so fresh! The teriyaki chicken plate is what I usually get and it includes grilled chicken, white rice, and stir-fried cabbage and carrots. I usually also order extra chicken. It’s so simple, but tasty. The only seasoning for the whole plate is teriyaki sauce and it’s perfectly enough. The dumplings are pretty good too, fried though. Another plate I love is the bento box but they don’t sell that anymore. It includes teriyaki chicken, salad, tempura veggies, 4 California rolls, and rice. I’m sad they took this out, bring it back, Sarku!

Yum. Mall food done right! Chicken: always fresh which is probably the main reason why it’s so good. Grilled right in front of you. Like everyone says: get the extra chicken for $ 1.49 extra. Veggies. Mix of broccoli, shredded carrots, and cabbage. Grilled/steamed to perfection. Chewy with a bit of crunch. They toss it on the grill for a bit then add a bit of water and cap it with a metal bowl to steam. Warning… Not everything is fresh. The tempura is precooked and refried. Other than this reason, sarku has my 100%approval for mall food!

Stick with the teriyaki, just gonna say that straight out. Average seems to the the norm with the places at the UTC food court, save the pizza at Craft which doesn’t even match up to that middle of the road mark. Sarku always seems to be jumping, usually a good sized line waiting to run through the gambit. They’ve got a nice setup, three grills and a fryer with three guys putting on a show. But the food is so-so. I got the Chicken and Shrimp Tempura, which is a waste. You get ALOT less food then if you go the Terriyaki route(why I advise what I did above) and it’s a lot less healthy … but, I was in a mood and had to have it; my own fault. The tempura is alright, not as billowy as you’d expect, and they overcook the meat this way, making it slightly dry and small, but the saltiness was there with the taste of the tempura making it through the light burn. And then there is white rice which does nothing with the fried food atop and not enough glaze on the side to give it any kick beyond filler status. Again, my own fault for not getting fried rice or chow mein. I will say this, though, the veggies are delicious. Simple, clean, well cooked, eating them here is reminder of how good simple vegetables can(and should) be. At least they are pretty cheap, they have that going for them.

I ordered chicken teriyaki with veggies and rice, and paid for an extra portion of chicken. I wanted enough food to share with my little granddaughter. The meal was too greasy, and we didn’t finish it. I threw most of it away and ended up feeling hungry. The cook asked if I wanted teriyaki sauce added and I said sure. I’m not sure if this is where the«heavy» quality came from. This was my second visit. I didn’t enjoy the food as much as I did on my first visit, as you can see from my previous review. Sarku Japan is in the food court at Westfield UTC mall. I suggest that they work on consistency. I’ll give them one more try in the future. If you order something, ask them to go light on the oil, and get the extra teriyaki sauce on the side instead of having them pour it on your food. I like the fact that they cook the food right in front of you, so you know it’s freshly made.

I consider this a snack. And while I make it a rule to never eat at non-authentic Asian places(unless I am in the middle of no where, or haven’t eaten all day) — I keep to it. This was one of those days that I haven’t eaten. There seemed to be a communication problem between me and the cashier, which is fine, I’m Asian and I know how it feels to not be understood sometimes. despite. speaking fluent English and all but whatever, can’t mark off points for that. I ordered the Special Chicken Teriyaki and went back to sit down and wait in front of the chefs on the grill. And waited. And waited. 20 minutes later, and wondering if my plate was ready, despite the laughing, joking, and lack of speed for the business to be considered ‘fast food,’ the cashier caught my eye and nodded that my plate was ready. The plate that had been sitting on the counter for 5 minutes getting cold. *POUT* The food however, was GREAT. Chargrilled chicken in a light teriyaki sauce tasted so good, after not eating most of the day, AND not having access to a BBQ grill in my apartment. Everything, save the rice I saw them dump into a ‘quick heat’ pot, was fresh. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick meal! Would’ve given 4 but the scenario above warranted a deduction.

Man what happened here? I used to love coming here all the time, then the price went up and the amount of food given went down! Now instead of getting a lot of chicken you get like max 10 pieces! The chefs here are getting really really really stingy with the meat! There are a million other places to eat in the food court, step up your game or be like what you used to be! I guess all good things don’t last forever… Sad my Sarku friend.
