At this point, I am ready to confess that I am low-key, high-functioning dependent on Pubcakes. I WASSOSAD when the brick and mortar shop closed. I mourned. WHY!!! So I pretty much chased them around farmer’s markets because I am obsessed like that(I swear that doesn’t cross over in relationships). If you’ve read my other review of Pubcakes, you’ll know I am in love with the Honey Nut Beerio cupcake, which is my lovely love, and I am sad that she doesn’t bring them to farmer’s markets due to the frosting’s propensity to melting and whatnot(I think). So I went to great lengths and ordered the mix online and made the cupcakes yesterday, and I made them about 100 times worse than they do(I was too impatient to lay out cupcake papers and to whip the frosting=sticky cupcakes and not fluffy icing – next time!) but they tasted freaking uuuhhh – mazing and Misty is a genius and probably my role model. Order online, ask them to cater, whatever you gotta do, because Pubcakes is basically the best thing ever.

**This is my ORIGINAL review from Pubcakes bricks&mortar Unilocal entry. Let me just say, they have only gotten better!** Ok, FINALLY got out to the Pubcakes location after many, many, many great reviews from friends, so here is my take: Holy muffin’ tops Seinfeld! This place is THE. REAL. DEAL. I loves me some craft beers. I loves me some cupcakes. Who would have thought of the(brilliant!) idea of mixing the two?! Even as a Chef, I’m not a fan of baking, so I leave it to the professionals and Ms. Misty there at Pubcakes is one of the greats. They have six(6) different«Pubcakes» to choose from. I decided to give a few a try by getting a six pack(yes, irony of beer laced cupcakes in a six pack is not lost on this guy) of the following variety — Irish Car Bomb, Stoned Portzilla, Freaking Apple, and Honey Nut Beerios. Now, there is a Vegan one and a S’more Stout also. Not a fan of anything«vegan» so not trying it just yet. The S’more Stout sounds good, but it looked a little busy at the top, so I will reserve that one for later, too. Now, one by one: Irish Car Bomb. BRILLIANT!!! I want to live in a house made of this and basically die happy. This was amazing. Guiness Chocolate Cake, Irish Cream frosting, and chocolate whiskey ganache. Heaven in a paper cup. This, for me, should be the signature cupcake. Freaking Apple: Green Flash Le Freak with a green apple frosting and house-made peanut brittle on top. Clean, crisp, just like a green apple, in CAKE! Plus it makes me want to get some more of the Le Freak from Green Flash Brewery. Honey Nut Beerios: Mission Brewery Amber Ale and Almond Butter Cake with Honey Milk frosting. Another home run. I’m already a fan of the beer that is used for this one, so to make it into a dessert is genius. The Honey Milk Frosting is a delight and makes me want to try to emulate it soon. And remember, I dislike baking outside of work. Stoned Portzilla: Cake made with one of my personal favourite porters, Stone Brewery’s Smoked Porter. Topped with a crunchy caramelized coconut crisp(which is probably the only way you can get me near a coconut) and filled with a chocolate coffee ganache, this one comes in as a close 2nd to the Irish Car Bomb. Pubcakes shop is warm and inviting and the crew is all smiles and more than happy to explain everything to a newbie like me. Have to say that it helps that the lovely lady who helped me out had a wonderful smile and even lovelier disposition. =P All in all: One of the best places in town for desserts! Cheers to Ms. Misty and the crew of Pubcakes for giving us a wonderful dessert that stands out by idea and execution. I’m looking forward to any new cupcakes that they conjure up. I recommend that you stop by and have a six pack for yourself. Provecho!

I have been waiting to try pubcakes for a while now. They no longer have a retail location but can be found at the hillcrest and north park farmers markets as well as some local brewery events. Today I made a special trip to north park just to get me some pubcakes. I can’t recall the name of the cake I tried but it was some kind of stout beer with bacon and maple cream cheese frosting. It was heavenly. Definitely a good excuse to splurge on the good ol diet. They are now also offering do it yourself cake mixes so you can make your very own pubcakes at home. I like to bake but I think I will have to leave this one to the professionals. Why mess w perfection is my motto.
