A must go to for all San Diegans to show off what this city’s all about. Great selection of FRESH seafood and a clam chowder that a Bostonian would be proud of!

The food is just alright. If you can handle the line, I’d highly recommend eating at Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill instead.

I’ve been eating here for so many years, that I entirely forgot to Unilocal them. If you want the very freshest seafood, this is the place to get it. And, the prices are extremely reasonable as well. I had the best grilled swordfish on my last visit. Best I’ve ever had! I just took a customer there; she had the fried clams and I had the halibut. Both excellent! If you’ve never been here, please give it a chance. They now have seating upstairs with great harbor views, or just sit out on the patio and enjoy the day.

If you’re looking for a fresh sea food meal. Point Loma Seafoods is your place. The food is phenomenal. The fish & tuna sandwich is the best! The tartar sauce they use is AMAZING. I’m not really sure what’s even in it. Onion rings are no good. But the french fries are delicious. I do have to say that the parking really sucks. I wish employees we’re friendly. That would make the experience much better. I am huge on costumer service. Not necessarily rude… But not nice. Typically, really busy on weekends but I’ve never had to wait an obnoxious amount of time. I for sure recommend.

After another visit I have to say the specials have a high success rate. Fried halibut seemed almost too safe after coming all the way from Jersey City but it was outstanding, using the thinnest coating to avoid distracting from the awesome fish flavor. With platters you get fries which I’m sure are fine but try a sandwich here at least once, as this is one of the rare venues where I care enough to mention bread and tartar sauce. I got another mixed smoked fish sampler. I think albacore was the best one. I’m not sure what was in there. The randomness is part of the appeal. I was dashed in my quest for spiny lobster at Point Loma. The menu listed it at $ 41.99 per pound cooked, but they didn’t have any left. Water Grill was charging $ 52 per pound but presumably there are more expense accounts involved over there. While I knew the ceviche was strong I wanted to mix it up so I got a shrimp taco. Assuming that the fish tacos are relatively similar, I’d say this is a decent but skippable choice. The taco here wasn’t hugely different than the taco at many places. Just like regular American restaurants always have a burger, it may be required that all California seafood joints provide tacos. You won’t be unhappy with it but it isn’t the best way to experience Point Loma’s brilliance.

Came here looking for a seafood dinner for the family(3 kids under 12). We didn’t want a sit-down experience, but we also didn’t want fast-food/street truck. Based on Unilocal reviews & photos we gave it a try. It was OK. As a seafood market, this place is Top-notch! Awesome local seafood & smoked options. Their lives lobsters & crabs are healthy & huge. Not cheap, but certainly not outrageous. As a RESTAURANT, this place is good but lacks key menu options. EVERYTHINGISFRIED… except for the sushi. The FISH&CHIPS were excellent, especially with their unique Tartar & Cocktail sauce. Cole slaw was beyond bland, however. Skip the CRABCAKES. It’s a clean joint with good staff & decent food. If I was hanging out with some buddies, I’d visit. But, as an adult & father this place does nothing for me. I have nothing negative to say other than I wasn’t won over on food, atmosphere or price.

This is now my stop when headed out our heading in to San Diego from the airport. On my first visit, at which I was brought her by my parents whom seek out all things seafood; I was like a kid in a giant aquarium of fresh fish ready for the eating(quite like a kid in an old time candy store with glass cases filled to the brim, but on a whole different level). That bright red hue that the fresh tuna gave off, or that strong decadent smell of smoked fish(yes, I smelled this out of all the other«fishy smells that were present, it took me back to when we would take out annual fishing trip up in Ridgecrest during Mule days and my Papa would smoke our daily catch of trout, so good!) My recent visit was after I picked up the fiancé from the airport on his way in Christmas Eve. You can imagine the hustle and bustle of this place near a busy holiday and many families preparing for that amazing fantastic Christmas meal we wait all year long for. The counters, ordering system, can be a slight bit intimidating, but just get up in there and you will see in all the hum drum lines form in zigs and zags and move along rather quickly. Unless your there during a slow time than just spend some extra time marveling at the glass case offerings. Again, on this visit was hit by the smell of the smoked fish. I kept telling myself to just buy a pound, you need a pound. I opted for the Smoked Fish Sandwich(which is house smoked I might add) — fresh sourdough roll with their in house tarter sauce. And literally that was the sandwich no extra frills or surprises exactly how you read it. And ordering that sandwich I learned they give you what seems like a few pounds of smoked fish slathered in creamy goodness in between two soft pieces of bread. Definitely, making this a traditional stop. Parking can be atrocious if you are looking for the free stuff, I recommend paying the 2 bucks for the hour, its well worth it! Plenty of seating, great service, and oh that smoked fish!

Amazing food! Great environment! Fun seating upstairs with a view of the harbor. Plus they have dedicated service crew up there to make sure the area stays clean and tiddy. We ordered the white clam chowder bowl, a spicy tuna roll and a fried fish plate. Super good! The fried fish plate was delicious and plenty of food. Lots of fries, 3 big pieces of deep fried fish and some coleslaw. Fishmarket was awesome! Lots of choices; Including a HUGE selection of smoked fish; Fresh/live tank of lobster; And, sushi area. Loved this place! Will be back for sure!

Point Loma Seafood has the freshest and tastiest seafood in the San Diego area. I visit every time I am out here and have made many friends and family fans over the years. You can get a good meal between $ 8.00 and $ 12.00. The location is just 10 minutes north of downtown, right next to one of the many marinas you will find in San Diego. Be prepared to wait a few minutes for parking on the weekends, though they do have someone out there managing the flow of traffic when it is busy. This is the best place to go if you want to buy fresh fish to take away for a BBQ. Or if you want to go and sit out in the sun and eat. It is a fish market with an area where they sell wines, seasonings and sauces. It can appear a little disorganized when you go in as people crowd around the counters and do not form lines. Just get as close to the counter as you can get and wait for one of the workers behind the counter to yell out«who is next?» Once you have given your order they will give you a number and you just wait for them to call the number to pay and collect your food. For seating, there are picnic tables outside in the sun or in a covered area on the side of the building. Or you could drive 2 minutes down the road to Shelter Island and grab a picnic spot by the water. The clam chowder is the best I have tasted in all of California. Just my humble opinion. :)

We were really looking forward to this place because we read the reviews and we were hoping it was going to be good. The oysters here are pretty flavorless. Don’t get them because it is not worth the price. The clam chowder bread bowls were pretty good. They were pretty big in comparison to boudin. But the clam chowder was pretty bland. We came in anticipation for the clam chowder bread bowl. If you’re doing that, go to boudin! The clam chowder was bland and the bread didn’t taste great too. Paid $ 26 for ½ dozen oysters and 2 clam chowder bread bowls. Everything had no flavor. Not worth my money. I would not recommend this place to a friend!

I gotta say, the hubby and I really, truly, honestly wanted to like this place. We love seafood and hadn’t been here, so we stopped in for some lunch. Upon entry, it’s a pretty cool layout. They sell fresh seafood as well as prepare it. They have sandwiches, appetizers, sushi, etc). As some other Unilocalers have stated, the pics on Unilocal do set some high expectations that unfortunately after having the real thing, isn’t actually as good. We ordered: COMBO Appetizer — Dungeness crab and shrimp mixture you put on some Ritz crackers. Pretty gross, and also expensive at $ 8.80 for a tiny, tiny cup. BREADBOWLCLAMCHOWDER — VERY watery and bland. More like soup than chowder! I added salt which barely helped. We even had to take it home and I made a roux to add and thicken it. COMBO Plate — 2 pcs fried fish, 2 pcs fried fish, fries and a crabcake. All fried. My hubby said the favorite part of that plate was the fish, which even so tasted mediocre(batter a little salty but not very savory). SCALLOP plate — I got excited when they told me it came with a half lb of scallops(10 – 12). «YUM!», I thought. Nope, it was all fried. Such a tragedy knowing they could have just seared them and it would’ve tasted so much better! All that frying dried them all out. 8OZSCULPINS — Your regular Sculpin. But maybe one should imagine it to be more magical to soften the blow it gives to your wallet, given that they charge $ 12EACH for them! We paid $ 70 for all of that. I don’t think we will ever come back. We paid similar prices at Pacific Beach Fish Shop awhile back, but at least they let you choose how you want your protein to be cooked(scallops: seared in garlic lemon butter). That place was good! They fry almost EVERYTHING at Point Loma Seafood. TIP : — Save yourself the money, time and hassle. Go to Mitch’s Seafood(almost next door to Point Loma Seafood). I believe they have THEBESTCLAMCHOWDER I’ve had in San Diego, and their yellowtail sandwich is so, so good. Dammit, after going to Point Loma Seafood, it sadly left me craving for more… at Mitch’s!

I have had this spot bookmarked for a while and finally got to try it this past Saturday. I was so excited for some fresh seafood and I had heard good things about this place from others! Parking: can get a lil rough. And all spots are 30 minutes. Not sure how strict they are with the 30 minute spots because we were there well over 30 minutes and nothing happened to our cars. The shop: It’s a seafood market, with giant display cases of their fresh fish and what not. Their menu is up above and the butchers take your order. They seem to be fast and efficient with taking orders and getting them out. We ordered: — fried oyster plate with french fries(it was good, oysters can be a bit fishy, and they were and we expected it, probably the least favorite dish compared to everything else we go. French fries were good!) — 2 cups of clam chowder(not enough flavor, we had to add salt and pepper and my friend added Tapatio) — Yellowtail sashimi(so fresh and soooo good!) — crab meat cocktail(this was really good too!) — side of fried calamari(not too chewy, just right) — our bill was around $ 54.00 So it was a hit or a miss with some of the seafood, but the hits outshine the misses. The guy who took our order did mess up on charging our cards. We handed him two cards and asked him to split it. Then he hands us back the cards and receipts and one says $ 29.00 was charged the other $ 25.00 was charged. Ok, so it’s not evenly split, not that big of deal. But then we read the last 4 digits to the receipt to sign the card, and he had charged my card twice… so the entire bill went on my card… Thanks dude. Good thing there’s Venmo now a days.

Very popular seafood restaurant /market at the Point Loma landing. There is inside and outside dining along with sushi items. The menu is all on a board behind the seafood counter and the prices are reasonable. The outside tables are full of people with there dogs. We ordered the following: Sourdough bread Clam Chowder Seafood Soup Lobster sushi roll Lobster roll(bread) Crab Salad Oysters half shell Little Neck Clams half shell There is an orderly attended parking lot. They do tow cars if your not eating there. Since you get a tray with your food and everything is served in to go containers the tables are reasonably clean. The restrooms are clean. The ordering process is chaos.(minus stars.) There is no order to order until after you pay. When your food is ready, they call your receipt number. We met some friends, ate fresh seafood and drank lot’s of beer on a hot Saturday afternoon.

I have been coming here for probably 20 years, and have seen it go through a remodel or two. I absolutely LOVELOVELOVEEEEEE this place. I refuse to eat clam chowder anywhere else! We generally stick with the clam chowder bowl and sushi. My son now gets to enjoy this place as well, and sticks with the fish and chips and sushi. Allow some wait time, they are always crazy packed. Friendly staff, great seating especially now that they have the upper deck. I would highly recommend this place if you are visiting from out of town and want a top spot to go. I tell everyone I know about it, to put it on the list to try!

Physically this is a much bigger space then The Blue Water Restaurant(also a seafood place) which is not too far from here. Parking is somewhat difficult at peak hours. There’s a few pay lots in front of the market but it appears to fill up fast. Other then that you may need to side street park it but even that is a bit of a task. I called in my order and it was ready for pick up at arrival. There’s a big front area where the market employees meet you for your orders. This seems more like a market then a restaurant to be honest but I did see diners outside of the place. The service was more efficient and friendlier then Blue Water which automatically gives this place a higher score. On top of that the Alaskan Cod plate I ordered with coleslaw and fries were good(particularly the fries). I would definitely come back.

I’ve only been here once, and only to buy fresh shellfish to go and cook at home. But, man oh man, what a selection of anything fish related!!! Yes, prices might be a tad high, BUT, quality and freshness reigns. We want to come back here, not only to buy our fish to prepare at home, but to also eat their cooking on the shaded patio!

As a Midwesterner who loves seafood, this was my dream. Looking for a non-pretentious seafood spot on a recent business trip, I had to look no further than Point Loma. From the airport, it was super easy to get to and they have a parking lot. We arrived around lunch time and it was definitely crowded! Luckily, there’s tons of outdoor seating options and we were able to get a table easily. The offerings in the display cases were fantastic, enormous shrimp, scallops, other fresh looking fish, I would absolutely purchase my groceries here if I lived in the area! For lunch, Walann R. and I split a bunch of items… probably wayyy more than necessary, but we couldn’t decide! The crabmeat cocktail with fresh Dungeness was superb. The sweet crabmeat was very fresh and tasty. We also enjoyed the Caesar salad with ahi tuna, huge portion! The crabcake plate was also a highlight. This came with several crunchy crabcakes and some awesome slaw. Our final dish that we ordered(again, this ended up being way too much food) was the shrimp tacos. These were tasty, but didn’t stand out as much as the other items which really highlighted how fresh all of the food was. Getting a variety and sharing was the right move, we were both able to try a plethora of items. Point Loma Seafoods is a little pricey, but you’re paying for quality items that literally just came out of the ocean. Definitely not a fancy restaurant, as you order at the counter, but perfect place to sit by the water and eat lunch. Overall, highly recommend if you’re in the area and looking for some real San Diego seafood!
