I was given a flyer at work for Parana Empanadas where you get a free empanadas with an order. Empanadas sounded so good, so we went the next day. They’re located in Sorrento Valley. The store is very small. You basically go inside and order. There are a few tables outside, which may be shared with Mama Lina’s. This was my first time here, and both ladies working were very nice. They had a Thanksgiving week special where you buy 12 empanadas and get 3 free. We decided to go with that since we were buying food for 4 people. We ordered a mix of empanadas. The ladies boxed each order separately and included a sample of each of the four sauces in each box. The three empanadas I chose were: chicken, beef, and mushroom and cheese. Since we got a free empanadas we chose the sweet wine and beef to split. My favorite of these was the chicken. Though others that got the chicken and the Chipotle chicken said the Chipotle was better. I wasn’t a big fan of the beef. But the sweet wine and beef is better. The mushroom and cheese were ok. The sauces were a great addition. I tried a lil of each sauce with each empanada. I definitely recommend trying all the sauces. We also ordered the alfajores. These are shortbread cookies with dulce de Leche inside. There was quite a bit of dulcet de leche, that it made the cookie pretty sweet. They also had a pumpkin cheesecake, but we did not try this. Overall I liked the variety of empanadas and sauces. It’s worth checking out.

Excited that this place has opened up near the office. It’s next to Mama Lina’s, but both are tucked away in a business park area so keep an eye out for the signs on the street to find the place. PROS: Empanadas are delicious and served freshly toasted A good assortment of fillings to choose from They also have desserts! The lunch combos make for a good bargain lunch CONS: Wish there were a few more choices for sides(here’s hoping success means an expanded menu at some point) Limited seating outside, so you may end up table-less during lunch hour

Went back for more! Still super tasty! Tried the eggplant+cheese and chipotle chicken, and both were delicious. Also got the flan(meal/deal: 2 empanadas + flan or salad for $ 8). The flan(pic) was smooth and came with dulce de leche and cream, also super good. Also tried the lemonade. It was more of a green tea lemonade, and was pretty strong in flavor with a solid citrus bite. Very interesting taste. Also. a lot of alsos haha. Tried a bite of my friends cheese+rajas, excellent. And a bit of her shortbread cookie sandwich(see pic) and it was sooo good. I’m not a fan of coconut flakes/shavings, but in this case it worked really well together. Tl;dr– come here for lunch. Now.

Let me just start by saying, I’m a sucker for small businesses. With that said, this shop just opened this week. It’s run by a daddy/daughter team in a room the size of a small office. This is because they share the same building as Mama Lina’s. So if you’re trying to find them, find Mama Lina’s Ravioli Company and you’ll find them. Even with this small setup, they still manage to offer a nice variety of empanadas. 11 at this writing with 4 more to come. While the shop and its staff are charming and inviting, it’s also very fast and efficient. I’ve been in twice this week and I’m in and out before you know it. I added a couple of pics so you can see the alforjes and empanadas. So good food, friendly staff and nice variety equals repeat customer!
