I stayed at their high-end property known as The La Valencia Hotel, in La Jolla, Ca. twice in july. Both stays i rented a Villa – their best rooms – with a standard rate, they tell me, of $ 837.00/night. the 2d time I rented 2 Villas, because they said they were going to really treat us well to make up for my problems in early July. The Villa I was in did not have internet that worked. I had been in the same Villa 10 days prior and reported this issue, but no one had fixed it, and they kept acting like I was just dumb. Since then, i have learned that you know the internet doesn’t work properly throughout the resort. The 2d Villa – which I rented for my daughter was Villa 11. When my daughter arrived they put her in a closet size room and acted like she had not paid for a Villa. They had just called from housekeeping to advise my husband Villa 11 was ready for her – while the front desk was putting her in the $ 200/nt room, at the same time. The hotel G.M. has now given me an explanation that assures me it was not a bait-and-switch, but instead just flagrant incompetence, which occurred twice on July 11th by the same clerk/your GM. I heard about my daughter being stuck in the wrong room, and the front desk being unwilling to help, while at the pool and went to the front desk in my swimsuit and cover. They made me go to my room for the confirmation to «prove» we had paid for the Villa for her, even though we had been talking about her and that room since I arrived the day before. Yes – the same desk clerk who I discussed the wrong room mess with in my swimsuit, and who sent me a football field away or so, to retrieve the written confirmation. They promise a newspaper and turn down service, but we never – in 4 days there – ever got either. I tried contacting this hotel corporation, yesterday, when I felt shunned by the La Valencia management. They do not have an email contact on a Google search or their site – that I could find – so I left a voicemail. I haven’t heard back from them yet. The Hotel GM did call though, and while I still have a very bad taste in my mouth, he explained some things, and gave me a refund on one of my 2 Villas. Thank you for that – really.
