Service was great. Waitress was great. Was not packed. Order came out quick. Kids ate! Chicken fingers and bbq bacon burger. The boys were very impressed with the beers they were recommended.

LOVED this place! We live nearby locally and found this place driving by. Great food, great beers on tap and nice location. We went on a Saturday for lunch and we really enjoyed it. We have 2 little ones and they are also very accommodating to kids, which is a huge plus for us! My husband ordered the Pork Belly Sliders and he gave them 5⁄5 stars! I had the grilled chicken sandwich and I’d give that 5⁄5 as well! We will definitely be going back to this place very often!

Well I have to say I am slightly disappointed; I guess I just had certain expectations. I’ve been to this place twice and both times were just ok because of the service. The food is pretty good. The first time I came with a group of coworkers and tried their sliders; they had good flavor, but one of the sliders came with an extra little something… piece of hair. It happens, I worked 4 years in the hospitality industry. The situation was handled very poorly. I told our server, but she seemed to think it was not a big deal. There was no apology, no manager was notified, and the new sliders came out at the very end, everyone was already done eating. So didn’t even get to eat the sliders, didn’t even bother taking them home at that point. Once again, there was nothing wrong with the taste of the food, but that situation could have been handled differently. Second time, I ordered the Caprese salad to go. When I went to pick it up, I had to wait a long time. I didn’t understand why the food was taking so long, the restaurant was pretty empty. They were way past the lunch rush, strange. I got to work, was very excited to try the salad… the excitement did not last that long. I was staring at my salad for a good while, partly amused and partly upset. The salad was packed in what looked like a pizza box and part of the dressing was missing. Greens in the middle, burrata cheese to side as well as the roma tomatoes, the juices soaking through the cardboard box, not very presentable. Both types of tomatoes, roma and cherry, did not taste very good. I only ended up taking a few bites of the greens and ate the two slices of bread it came with. I’m not sure if this is the container the salad is supposed to come in, but if it is, you might want to change that… the burrata cheese did not look very appetizing on the corner of the box like that. I’ve heard great things about this place, so it’s very disappointing. So maybe third time’s a charm? …

This place is awesome. We are locals, and we love coming here after work. There’s a variety of craft and local brews, tasty food, and a fun atmosphere! There’s always Peanut Butter Cup Porter(my favorite, and a hard beer to find). The staff is friendly and fun to be around! So happy this place opened up on my block! :D

I just want to thank the owners and staff so much for being receptive to my review, and what I hoped would be made better for all as a result. This place rocks, and if it doesn’t hit the magic 100⁄100 for you… Discuss it with the management. They will make it right! If they don’t please rate ME down for this review. They rock. As a thank you, here is their taps and my favorite Katlyn… Not that their Caroline or Rosie isn’t just as good, but I didn’t get pictures of all their awesome servers! — — — — – Back after 3 months and lots of staff turnover. No Katlyn, no Caroline… But still a wonderful Rosie, a beautiful Tina Marie, and a Shannon with a smile that makes you want to move to La Jolla. To quote Jim Carey — «So you’re sayin’ there’s a chance…» Anyway, on another note, They have good beer and food too! Ok, Peace out. I have to go find words that rhyme with Shannon.

After a recommendation I came here to have a late lunch. The honey sriracha wings were amazing! Beer was really tasty(Cali Creamin Nitro and Peanut Butter Stout) Pulled pork sliders were just OK. Brie, Apple and fig Grilled Cheese was delicious! I’d definitely recommend coming here to eat and drink to anyone, just wouldn’t order the pulled pork sliders again. Service was awesome. People are very kind, polite and attentive.

I was really excited to have a close casual restaurant and bar and went to check it out but was disappointed. Service was below average. They don’t have a full bar so served beer and wine. The bartenders were not very knowledgable about the menu and it was difficult to get someones attention to order a drink. Food was fair but not exceptional.

Used to be a 5, but falling fast. Servers appear that be untrained; any hiccup causes a collapse in service, and they create hiccups by not closely paying attention to orders. Just a few months ago, it was much better, or at least they were trying harder. Also, the whole place takes random days off. One day we went for lunch, and it said they were closed for«winter hours.» Another time, there was a note on the door that said they were closed because they deserved the day off. Really. That said, the food is very good, beer selection is excellent and environment is very cool. If they can get their service act together, it will be a keeper.

Delicious food, wonderful owners, wonderful staff… Now clientele… Hmmm. So basically, what I am trying to say here is that I have been here on many occasions, and there is nothing about what this place is trying to do that isn’t wonderful! BUT! The owners need to encourage the bartenders and waitresses that they have the power to cut off clients who are being abusive. And to support them 100% in the waitstaff’s decision. Having been here 4 times in two weeks as an «out of towner» l am saddened to have already been able to identify a local who is very friendly to fellow males, but is clearly a «sex predator» who will say anything, no matter how abusive, to his dates, fellow customers, or the staff in order to coerce what he wants. This man needs to be banned. No ifs, ands, or buts. Or, at the very least, cut off, as soon as his language becomes abusive towards ANYONE in the establishment. I encourage everyone to rate this with their $$$… This is close to my heart, and no one deserves abuse like this. If you go there, tip your amazing waitstaff wonderfully, because they are. But if you hear abuse like I’ve overheard multiple times at this establishment, mention it to the GM/Owner/Manager and let them know you will not return if it continues. Sincerely, A Denverite in San Diego

First time here! Over all experience was great! Our server was Rosie. She was very personable and attentive. She recommended some awesome dishes. Overall best service I’ve had in a long time. I started off with watermelon salad which was very refreshing and tasty! The portion was large enough for it to be my meal(which is a good thing in my book). I then ordered a side of grilled asparagus marinated with lemon thyme vinaigrette sprinkled with puffed quinoa. Two words. Mouth watering. Then I ordered Thai Chicken flat bread. It’s a cheese blend with Thai chili sauce, topped with mixed greens almonds chicken and cabbage. Two words. Life changing. I had a 8oz sculpin to help take in all the amazing favors! But they also have a huge tap selection to accommodate different palettes.
Overall pricing for location and food quality is really affordable. HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHISSPOT! Will be coming back!

New favorite! Just what the neighborhood needed… a super cool new place with great design, great vibe, great music, great staff and great menu. Genuinely reminds me of my other home, Portland. Artsy yet casual, plus reasonably priced. And… they have plenty of scenes to watch my #PortlandTrailblazers games! Super dog friendly w outside booths and doggie treats! Perfect post surf option. Did I mention the awesome house made sauce selection?(Honey sriacha, Pineapple Express and amber ale BBQ). Yummmmy!

Came for MNF with my girlfriend and luckily we were able to snag a table in the back corner. The restaurant isn’t really large but it’s long. There’s bartop seating and tall bartop booths along the back wall. Towards the back of the restaurant there is one large booth table on a higher stage in the corner and 2 larger booth tables. The front patio has some seating as well. There’s a large TV screen at the front patio and several TVs throughout the restaurant. Nice lighting, cozy concept. Food and drink specials daily. Restaurant was quite full at the start of the game but quickly dwindled down, not sure b/c of the game or something else. My friend had the blackbean burger with fries which she really liked. I tried the turkey pesto sandwich with sweet potatoe fries. The sandwich was ok. The turkey tasted of good quality but as a whole, nothing really impressive. The sweet potatoe fries were also ok but they are a $ 1 upcharge. We also tried the warm chocolate chip cookies. They were a bit overdone but since they had come fresh out of the oven, they were still soft enough in the center. The outer edge was definitely almost burnt crispy but if you’re eating them hot, then it’s not as noticeable. Service was the stand out, particularly our server. He was young but very professional and attentive. Unfortunately, even sitting all the way in the back, we could smell cigar smoke that was coming from the front patio. I’m super sensitive so I probably pick it up more easily than most people but definitely not my fav. Prices were reasonable, standard for bar/grill. Parking is street which depending on day and time can get a bit scarce especially during the summertime. Decent spot to grab a bite and watch the game.

I live down the street and have been anxious to try this new place! To my disappointment; the food was cold, portions were very small(sides) I think I got like 10 fries with my burger. We ordered dessert and never got it until the check came. Our server was extremely busy, perhaps overwhelmed! The place was understaffed for sure. I would expect that with the high $$$, the service and food would be top notch. The beer is expensive! Specifically a local beer from alpine. Most beers are $ 8. for 14oz… WOW! I hope this place will read these reviews and make some changes! There’s a lot of competition out there when it comes to beer! I know this draws a lot of people into places like this! Maybe then I would consider a second chance!

I’m a fan of this place. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood. Good selection of beers. They’re still new, so service sometimes is a bit slow but they’re getting better. I really like the bonair burger with the roasted tomatoes cooked by the chef.

This is exactly what our neighborhood needed. Thank you Justin for opening up a fun, hip hangout for all of us locals. This place is located at Windansea Beach, just steps to the ocean. Happy Hour is until 7pm, and includes half priced beers. I love their homemade blondie, but there are tons of beers to satisfy every palate. I love this place! A must go for anyone visiting the area!

Came in last week with a friend for a couple of beers. As we walked in, not one server acknowledged us. So we sat ourselves down at one of the booths along the wall and waited about 5 mins for someone to bring us a menu or greet us so we could put in our drink order. Even the bartender who saw us sit down refused to make eye contact as we were waiting. My friend and I were pretty appalled at the lack of service given that it wasn’t very busy. I think the servers were more interested in talking to each other while the bartender was too busy watching the game. Who is the manager of this place? Really wish that La Jolla Tap & Grill would step up their customer service skills because it is def lacking. After waiting over 5 mins and tired of being ignored, we left and walked one block north to the Promiscuous Fork where we were able to order our drinks and get it immediately. I really wanted to like this place due to the close proximity to my place and the nice ambiance. This was my 3rd bad experience in a row(see previous review) so suffice to say, I will not be returning.

After 3 consecutively perfect dining experiences, it’s time to share my appreciation for La Jolla Tap and Grill! Josh the Manager helped us host our engagement dinner and graciously comped a bottle of champagne. The food has been delightful and on point each time. The atmosphere is adaptable providing the perfect setting no matter the reason for your visit! Tina Marie the Bartender is so personable and obviously builds great relationships with many of the patrons. Today, during the chargers game I tried a brunch item, shrimp and grits and it was superb! Come in and try it!

Okay. Great potentials — the décor and vibe is great! But the service is lacking. It wasn’t just me either, the table next to me was complaining about the same. I went tonight with my daughter for happy hour. It was a struggle to get the servers attention all night. I had an empty drink for several minutes. No complaints with the food. Had a flatbread and some beers. The flatbread was crispy and flavorful. And the happy prices were great. Large tvs to watch football, which was a plus. This is a neighborhood joint so I plan on coming back. I just hope the service improves.

The beer and atmosphere is good. Quality of food is what gets the low rating. Service was also a little underwhelming. Both chicks that have been there when I was there seemed very unenthusiastic about their job. I will go back though! I love that I live near to a cool beer place. I’ve also heard the burgers are good.

The mister and I stopped by for a quick dinner after arriving in La Jolla, and since La Jolla Tap and Grill was within walking distance from our rental, we thought it’d be a good choice after reading most of the Unilocal reviews. Sadly, that’s not the case at all and I was left with so much disappointment that I could’ve eaten that and gotten full. :( I’m a sucker for anything wrapped in bacon and since I didn’t think you could mess up bacon wrapped dates, I opted for that along with the coconut crunch shrimp. The bacon was charred to the point where it just lost its delicious, salty, pork flavor and the«jumbo dates» were actually smaller than your average-sized dates. Furthermore, we were given a sad-looking plate of 4 of these tiny little dates. The coconut shrimp were slightly better but definitely not anything special. We also ordered the pulled pork sliders, which were dry and bland. Seriously, all you have to do is lather it with BBQ sauce and it could be phenomenal! Finally, we got the PBLTA, which was probably the best thing out of all of our dishes. La Jolla Tap and Grill seems more like a local hangout spot to watch sports and drink a few beers, not to eat a full-on meal.

Been to this place twice now, it’s right down the street from where I live in La Jolla and I was happy to see a cool new restaurant join the neighborhood. Atmosphere, awesome. Food, not good. Service, even worse. We sat out on the patio area and ordered food and drinks. You could tell our waitress was new, slow service, didn’t come back and check on us much. They did have a few other nice staff that would though, which helped a bit. But man were we disappointed with the food. The sliders are a joke, and the fries are like thin potato chips. They shouldn’t be called fries. I can’t remember what my friend ordered but he wasn’t satisfied either. This place has so much potential, and I think it’s the perfect place to get a drink late at night, but I wouldn’t come back for food, just for the drinks and atmosphere. I hope they read these reviews and up their game. This place could really do well if they work the kinks out.

I was part of a party of five tonight that tried unsuccessfully to eat here at about 8 pm. Long story short, the restaurant was incredibly busy, the kitchen was overwhelmed & ran out of food. My friends & I ordered drinks, the cheese platter & pork belly wrapped dates as appetizers. After 20 minutes, our server told us the unfortunately the dates were gone and the cheese plate would be out in another 15 minutes. Some of us ordered a second round of drinks(which were forgotten). The server tried really hard to keep my table happy. She honestly said the kitchen was slammed & that we should put in our dinner order sooner rather than later. So, we did. I tried to order a flat bread… sold out. I tried to order the burger… sold out. I did order the PBALT(pork belly avocado arugula tomato sandwich). My friends placed their orders & reminded the server to please bring the second round of drinks. When the cheese plate arrived, we pounced on it. It had once slice of bread cut into four rectangles, nice cubes of Gouda, small slab of brie & cubes of dry aged cheddar. Also there were almonds, dried currants and tasty jam(Quince? Pear?). After the cheese plate was cleared, our server apologized for the delay for our dinner and offered to buy us a round of drinks. We asked how long the delay would be? Another half hour. By now, we had been at our table for 1 ½ hours. We said we were hungry, not thirsty. She chatted with our table and tried her best to please us. She sent the manager over to us. He was very nice and very apologetic for the delay. He said he really wanted to make our evening right. He made several drink offers which we declined. I thought he was sincere in his efforts and explanations about the long delay. In the end, we cancelled our entire dinner order and left to seek dinner elsewhere. We realize this is a new restaurant that has only been open two weeks. The manager took care of our bill which is what was right for this particular circumstance. We wished him and the restaurant well. Three out of our party of five(including me) said to the manager that we will return in the future because he provided superior customer service. Next time I hope to write about the food from here.

This place has potential. Love that it’s walking distance from our house… Our sleepy Windansea needed something like this! But until they up their game on their menu and food — we will only come for beer!(which they have a great selection). Friendly staff but very slow service. That should improve with time. Biggest negative is that the food was lame — no taste, ½ the menu was unavailable and we received one of our plates with some of the items missing. One of the managers came by to apologize and took a buck off the item(which is just silly) but we know they are trying … We will just wait a while for them to work out the kinks and return… But probably just for beer.

I am glad this place is under way and it’s just what the area needed, but not only because they offer 30 beers on tap, a wonderful staff, but also some great eats as well. When I stopped in, the first thing I wanted was a refreshing craft beer. Amanda, my fantastic server suggested the«Modern Times Fortunate Islands,» after she heard about the kind of beers I like, and she hit right on the money with this one. For eats, I ordered the house wings naked, but with a light rub, and with a side of a house Sriracha Honey and house BBQ Sauces for $ 8. I also ordered the pulled pork sliders served on a brioche buns with a side of fries for $ 7. First of all, the wings are brined in a secret solution for 24 hours, then fried and served either naked or tossed in a sauce of your choosing. The wings were fantastic to say the least. The brine allowed for some excellent inner seasoned, enhance meat flavor, and continues juiciness throughout. They exterior had a great golden brown color with a great crunch and seasoning. Every time I took a bite out of one of these wings, there was a great crunch, followed by a burst of juice and flavor. The meat was very tender and the wings were bliss dipping them in the sauces. The honey sriracha sauce was fantastic. It was nicely balanced between the chile, vinegar, and acidity of the sriacha; all the be tamed down by the subtle sweetness of the honey. Its viscosity was very nice too and coated the wings nicely when dipped in the sauce. The BBQ sauce was very good as well. It was more mellow than the sriracha based sauce, but it had that great BBQ flavor and was a thicker sauce as well. The pulled pork sliders came with a house slaw, some slice red hot peppers, and the pulled pork served on a toasted brioche mini bun. I liked the pork sliders, but I did feel there were a few areas I would like to see improved upon or changed. First, the pulled pork was very tasty and well seasoned, but I had a small issue with its texture. It was served very fine, almost minced. It did not have that nice«pulled» pork appeal with little bits of burnt ends and tender chopped or shredded pieces. In a nut shell, the pork needed some texture. It was so fine and soft, that made it one dimensional. Like I said it tasted great, but it needed some character via some texture. The again, this just be the way they make it here. The slaw served on the sliders was terrific. It was crisp and with a nice balance between acidity and a touch of sweet. The brioche bun’s toasting gave it some nice character, between the bun’s natural moistness and softness and the toasty ends. The bun had a pleasant buttery rich flavor: a very good choice. I have to question the preparation of the french fries. When I ordered the sliders, I was told they were shoe string fries, which I like very much. These fries had good flavor via their nice light seasoning and quality of the potato, but they reminded me more of long thin potato chips. They were very thin and flat, thus they had very little, to no meat to them. The logic behind them is keeping that crispiness which is keen, but technically they are not shoe string fries, because even those have some sort of three dimensional aspect to them or are just plain meatier. This is just an observation of mine, but one I hope they will reconsider. You could also make house made potato chips. Now there’s an idea. Although, I do like shoe string fries too. Thank you Amanda, as per usual, you were a great server and have a great eye out for nice beers to fit the mood. The GM was very welcoming throughout my visit and he provided great hospitality and warmth.

These guys just opened up tonight and we are so excited. Came here for happy hour and then came back with the kids for dinner. Service was a bit spotty, but they were totally overwhelmed with the size of the crowd that showed up. Ahi salad a 3, sliders a 4, burger and pork belly sandwich a 5. Overall we are giving them a 5 to show our support for something new in lower LJ.
