Amazing food, great atmosphere, extremely friendly staff. They know their stuff too! Prices aren’t necessarily cheap, but you get what you pay for. I’ve been her countless times with my girlfriend. It’s only a mile from my house… So it’s easy to just über on over. The burger is great. The specials are always tasty. Chicken under a brick! The lamb kabobs! Try the roger Mexico for a drink! One of the best spots in north park! Reminds me of the time I went to London for holiday!

We went there on New Year’s eve, could not have had a better time. The atmosphere was quite nice, although we sat on the patio, the heaters and just the way they set up the space was warm. The food, and the service was very good. I cannot wait to go back again!

I just tried Jayne’s this evening for the first time, and it was a lovely experience! First(and foremost): great wine list, with a decent selection of non-California reds for those of us not that into drinking jam. I did the Restaurant Week menu, starting with the crab cakes. Coming from many years living in Washington, DC, I ordered the this dish with some trepidation; after all, Maryland IS for Crabs, and rather proud of its standing as crab cake capital of America. I was thus pleasantly surprised to find that Jayne’s gives Maryland a very decent run for its crab cake money! The crab cakes themselves presented with a nice, crispy crust; no mean feat for such a moist structure, and frankly unexpected on such a crowded restaurant evening. The celery slaw was a surprise – very simple, but nicely crunchy and complimentary. My main course were the scallops. Again, three nicely done crusty scallop, with an accompanying sauce that was a nice blend of creamy lemon. The arugula and Israeli couscous were fine, but a bit bland, and didn’t really lend anything to the scallops. That said, I would order this dish again, just for the scallops and the sauce. I ended with the sticky toffee pudding with caramel gelato. Not too heavy, just enough sweet, and the madeleines had crispy edges that crunched pleasantly beneath the toffee. My only regret is that I didn’t know about the lovely courtyard in back, or I’d have requested a table there. NB for fellow grammarians: I recommend the English Blood cocktail to help you get over the missing apostrophe. I coped quite nicely throughout the meal. Thanks much for a lovely dinner. I’ll be back soon!

I really wanted to like this place, I had walked by many times and always wanted to try it. Then my bf took me on a special date to this establishment. Due to the fact that it was a date, I had to be polite and not make a fuss about the horrible service that ensued… –2 star for very expensive, overpriced menu items. We ordered the poutine $ 14: it was fries with gravy on top, for the price of an entrée. The Fish n chips: it was fried catfish, nothing fancy to write home about, but paid a lot for it. –2 stars, the worst part was the mussles. It was their special of the day, verbally announced by the waitress. She listed nearly every ingredient in the dish, except for the cilantro. Once it was served, and I saw the cilantro mixed into the sauce, I asked the waitress about it. She unapologetically said, «oh yeah, the cilantro is garnished on top, I just didn’t bother to mention it.» I informed her that I have an allergy to cilantro, and that if I had known about it being an ingredient, I would not have ordered this dish. She then said, «it’s only garnished on top, I’m sure you can pick it out.» There was absolutely no offer for resolution, like any other restaurants would have offered; to take it back and re-make another without the cilantro, or offer the customer to make a different order. I don’t know if they would have taken it back had I requested and insisted on it. My boyfriend felt really awkward and awful for this dining experience. He did not speak up, and I did not want to seem like I was really upset. But the fact that this waitress did not offer to DOANYTHING about it makes this establishment a 1-star, and I would NEVER go back there again. My friends want to do restaurant week here, and I SERIOUSLY cautioned them against it, due to its poor service. The décor is mediocre and the space is very small. Overall, I feel bad for the establishment because this one particular waitress sabotaged my experience at Jayne’s. Maybe their food is quality when it does not have surprise cilantro popping up.

Loved the buttermilk chicken and cornbread! I have to come back to get more because my boyfriend ate half of it! But it was all very yummy! A little small and crowded, but very nice place to have dinner!

I really like this place. It’s a small, intimate restaurant/pub in North Park with attentive, friendly staff and quality food and drink options. I ordered the flat iron steak, which was cooked perfectly medium rare. The beer selections range from ‘themed/import’ to local, all of which are quality selections. The shrimp appetizer was suggested by the waitress who was spot on for the recommendation. Total with tax and tip ran about $ 80 for 2 meals, 2 drinks and an appetizer and was definitely worth it. Looking forward to trying other options on the menu in the future. Free street parking, no lot.

What’s not to love about this place! Not only is décor and atmosphere super cute and charming the food has never disappointed me! I’ve been coming here for years and it’s always been on point. I love how knowledgable and friendly the staff all is and the owners are gems themselves! I’ve tried just about everything on the menu and it’s literally all been good. Wine selection is super and reasonably priced. If it’s warm enough I strongly recommend dining in the back patio. It makes me feel like I’m on vacation:-)

I don’t know enough superlatives to make sufficient comment on Jayne’s but I can tell you this: I ordered the fried chicken, mashed potatoes and, ugh, collard greens. I’ve never liked them ever. I’ve only eaten them because my mother made me. Suffice to say, that night I ordered another helping of collards for dessert(what the what?!) I’ve also had the fish & chips as well as the poutine which I enjoyed very much. I go with one of my friends who is allergic to shellfish and nuts and is very concerned about cross-contamination, but they are excellent about that and even remembered when we went back again. There’s a very interesting wine list with cocktails I’ve not seen offered in many places. Seasonal offerings are always worth the try and they know how to cook fish! It’s a sweet little neighborhood restaurant that always leaves me feeling like I spent the evening dining with good friends in their house.

Saw great reviews and eclectic décor. So we decided to try it. Got there at 5:30. No AC. The patio was full for some event. Ordered wine and got a very very poor pour for $ 11. Thought the pour was for a sample but it wasn’t. Got two salads — the lettuce and veggies were not cold or crisps. It was wilted … Dressing tasted good but it wasn’t a $ 12/salad. Ordered the burger-$ 17. It wasn’t a $ 17 burger and fries. Let’s just say it wasn’t a great fit.

this place is priced on the higher end, i will admit. if factoring in the price tag of items like a caesar salad($ 13), or the burger($ 17), one might lower your rating because the inflated cost of such common items doesnt make a whole lot of sense. i mean the restaurant isnt in the ritz or anything, its on 30th in north park along with a lot of more affordable delicious options. but then, if you simply go off of taste and service — in my experience — cant fault them for anything. my meal was outstanding. what can i say, i have expensive taste. i went for the most expensive thing on the menu: the duck breast with gnocchi. originally i thought i had a small appetite and would be taking some home. nope. ate every… last…bit. man, what amazing, rich flavor. perfectly cooked and quality duck. delicious gnocchi(though ive never found a gnocchi i didnt like). throw in some mushrooms and spinach as well and, all the combinations of flavor kept me eating it till it was completely gone. highly recommend as a special treat to yourself — you wont be disappointed. they had mother earth cali creamin’ on tap so that pleased me very much.

We were looking for a place to eat on a rainy evening and decided to pop into Jaynes, not knowing what to expect. We were able to get in after a short wait at the bar where we enjoyed a London Sour and a Pimm’s Cup. Our table was located in the back corner and it felt like the best seat in the house. We had a view of the entire restaurant, including the door, and were able to take a peak at what everybody else had served. We both ordered Steak Frites and absolutely loved every bite. The restaurant was welcoming, a nice warm place to wait out the rain, and we had a delicious meal. I look forward to our next visit!

Upon recommendation from a friend, I finally made it out to Jaynes on the Tuesday burger special night, which also includes a beer. I went with the Trumer Pils. A bit pricey, for sure, but the burger was one of the better one’s I’ve had in SD. It comes medium and had just the right juiciness. The combination of the sharp vermont cheddar and unique house pickled onion meshed perfectly. It also comes with aioli, but not being a big fan of most mayonaisse-y spreads, I had them put that on the side. After taking a bite, I decided it was unnecessary. The frites were hot and crispy. This is a great place to feed your burger craving when you are in the mood for a cut above the standard burger spots.

Another fantastic find in this area of town.. I’m afraid we’ve run out of cool places in this area and it may be time to move on. The inside is quaint and not too big. A nice long Bar, and a restaurant that seats 28, plus an outdoor patio. Very nice décor. Very comfortable. Very different crowd than the places down the street. A little bit of everything. We called ahead for reservations, and while we asked for 6pm, we got 6:45 reservations. When we arrived the restaurant was empty, and it makes sense that we were asked to delay a bit as the kitchen would have had to fire up for a table of two. Our server, Robert, admitted he’d only been at the restaurant a couple of weeks, so he had not tried everything on the menu. No problem. He had some great recommendations and he knew the specials by heart. The menu has a huge wine and spirits list, and some infused drinks too. My wife had a mussels appetizer and I had the Poutine that I had wanted to try since reading about the National fast food of Canada a while back. Both appetizers were huge, and very tasty. Best to order one and share in the future, or order 2 is your party is four people. I ordered the Bratwurst, and my wife the Chicken Tikka Masala(Indian). Both were amazing. We finished off with some coffee(very fresh and very good) that was served with real cream. Dessert was amazing too. My wife tried the Sticky Toffee Pudding, and I had the Brownie with Gelato. We shared, but my taste leaned towards the Brownie. Overall, a great leisurely meal. $ 121 before tip, including one glass of wine. Service was very good with Robert checking in frequently to make sure everything was going well, and every other server also helped out. A pet peeve of ours is that many times restaurants will leave dirty dishes on the table, and servers will ignore them and leave them for the bus staff. Not here. Everyone helped, and empty dishes were promptly removed. So, it is clear that all the wait staff is working to make your dining experience first class.

«Small, Quaint, Friendly, Fantastic ! « My wife and I met some friends for dinner last week at Jaynes Gastropub in San Diego. The restaurant is tucked away in the University Heights area of San Diego, and has a cozy, casual bar & eatery, serving modern British pub fare & drinks inside or on a private back patio. The eclectic menu features gourmet takes on pub and continental classics using local, organic farmed produce, meats and seafood. Jaynes Happy Hour drink specials and food specials are wonderful. The Gastropub also has a wide variety of wines you may enjoy. My wife had the Crispy Calamari as an appetizer and it was Awesome. I had the Sausage Roll which was delicious. My wife also enjoyed Jaynes famous Hamburger with the best tasting Fries she has ever had. I had the Fish and Chips which was very tasty. Our servers were so nice and friendly, and the entire experience at Jaynes left us with a great feeling ! Jaynes has options for parties ranging from 12 to 100. From rehearsal dinners, corporate and family parties, to receptions and full weddings. I’ve lived in San Diego my entire life and had never heard of this place before, but we will definitely be back to this amazing Gem !

Not your average Gastropub. Higher end Gastro Pub Food. Reminded me of Spain. Food, Flavor, Purity! Its a real Gem! There are a few things food wise that could have been a tiny better but nothing significant. I would officially be overly picky to complain. I actually cant wait to go back. The service is actually fine dining service, with a light airy feel. Having a small two person table, our table was never cluttered; always being maintained. I so love that thought in a restaurant. simple-clean-minimal. The restaurant is extremely charming. The outdoor patio is so lovely, a little oasis. The customers are all ages. Great craft drinks $ 12, meals set around $ 17 – 30, salads $ 13, and the menu is small, and with a small menu comes thoughtful, great food. A new place for us, if you haven’t been here, go for a date night or a celebration. Its a special place. Or just go for the great food. FYI: They are on «open table» app as well.

We love all things Britain — we met in London, tied the knot there and we’ve spent a good deal of time there over the years. Wifey is also a quarter English, so more than enough to be obliged: Jayne’s was an obvious spot to patronize. We found Jayne’s very inviting and a charming little spot. The staff were very welcoming and our service throughout the evening was A1A. Wifey loved the Union Jack flag on the wall and reflecting on a big mirror across our table. Nice touch. The place is reminiscent of a quaint bistro anywhere in the UK. I loved my fish and chips — perfect. I want to say, best I’ve had in SD. And, the sautéed snap peas — nice. It was cold out that evening we dined at Jayne’s, so wifey went for the Lamb Shepherd’s Pie. I believe she was quite happy in the tummy. Our drink of choice — local beers on tap. The menu is extensive and ditto on the wine and spirits side of the house. Maybe it is a wee bit pricey, but well worth it. Jayne’s is a neat little place and in a cool pocket of SD(& caddycorner from Polite Provisions — another great spot to start our evening). Cheers Jayne & Pop — you both have our future dining patronage, indeed…

We live close to Jayne’s and enjoy walking over on occasion, so thought it might be a great choice for Valentine’s day. It was packed when we walked in 5 minutes early for our reservation — we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. My guess is they didn’t quite budget enough times in between turns for the longer v-day meal experience. Once seated, service was a bit slow, but professional and we received apologies for the delays. The meal was prix fixe — $ 75 for three courses plus amuse bouche. Appetizer was good, but the main course left a little to be desired. We tried the filet mignon, which was served with french fries and a small salad, and the wiener schnitzel, with spaetzle and broccolini. The filet was perfectly done and delicious, but the fries were boring. Schnitzel was also good, but probably not worth this meal’s price tag. For dessert we both chose the profiteroles — the most underwhelming course of the night. Tough dough and what tasted like Hershey’s syrup. We will definitely revisit Jayne’s for the occasional dinner, but would most likely choose a different spot for our next celebratory meal.

I don’t understand how this is a gastropub, there’s no pub in it, especially with only less than 6 beers on tap… But it does have high quality food though! It was more of just a cute, intimate restaurant. When I think of gastropub I was thinking more of a bar-ish style restaurant. Name is a bit deceiving. My friend and I came here for the restaurant week menu, and we are so glad we did! Service was good, ambiance was just right, and the food was scrumptious! –Bacon wrapped steak: delicious steak! Seasoned perfectly with savory flavors. I ate all of mine, then my friend because she never finishes her food. So I get a great deal when I go with her! 2 meals for 1! –Crabcakes: excellent crabcakes, big chunks of crab. Love the sauce on it. The celery salad was refreshing, but didn’t see any value to it being there. –Apple tart: what a great way to end my meal, there were big slices of apple, the pastry was just right, and the ice cream was spot on. It wasn’t too sweet but sweet enough for your sweet tooth. This was a great way to start the RWSD!

I was VERY pleased with my visit here. We came in after enjoying drinks and dinner across the street and wandered in hoping for a more intimate atmosphere that would allow us to have a conversation we could all hear. Dessert was a triumph, our drinks were delicious, this is my new favorite spot!
