I’m afraid they are no longer in business. There is a real estate AVAILABLE sign in the window. We went there the first week they were open and it was great. We then went there twice more and it was just sliding downhill. For example, one of us ordered a beef burger and another ordered a buffalo burger. The waitress brought them but didn’t know which was which. Sic transit…

Great experience! Calamari appetizer, burgers and beer selection was excellent. Several TVs and the staff will accommodate what you request to watch. Overall chill atmosphere and clientele.

I went back and forth… At first I have it 2 stars then a bumped to 3 bc the service was very friendly, just slow. On Thursdays it’s trivia night, the places filled up and there still was just the bartender and 1 server, they need to spend a bit more payroll ! Food was ok … I had a salad but my friend had chicken and he said it was bland

Great place but service is spiraling down fast. Food continues to be great, the bacon dates are excellent… Waited 20 minutes for a beer and there were about 10 people in the whole restaurant. The appetizer came. We ate them. We order. The food(overcooked burger) came and not a drop of beer yet. The server did apologize but… Seriously?

We are always on the lookout for new restaurants in our neighborhood. We noticed it popped up next door to a favorite burger place of ours and knew we had to give it a try. Didn’t have a reservation on a weekend but no problem finding seating. Ordered a few beers to start. They don’t have a liquor license yet so their cocktails were wine based or soju based. Ordered the pretzels balls with beer cheese to start off the round of appetizers. The bread was good but the cheese was very underwhelming. When I know that I’m eating something that is going straight to my belly, I would at least like for it to be delicious. It was bland to the hubby and I. The bacon wrapped dates however is another story. They were just the right amount of crispy on the bacon and the dates were not too sweet. For our entrees, I got the mussels and the hubby got the lamb burger. Mussels didn’t leave an impression and wouldn’t care to order it again but the lamb burger was juicy and delicious. Overall it was a nice experience, great service even though there was only one server on the floor but a little on the pricey side. Wouldn’t mind trying it again some other time.

So we joined SUNDAYFUNDAY at the buffalo house and the food was yummy not great but yummy. The waitress was interesting. We ordered our food(party of 9) we waited about 30 minutes to get our food… keep in mind the place was empty about two other parties there. So we finally get to eating and she brings my cousin and her boyfriend one plate, she misunderstood that they ordered two and she says«next time make sure to order for yourself» .maybe she should clarify before putting orders in… not to mention the waitress buts in our conversations left and right. Maybes she’s just extra friendly… fine. So then it comes to paying. everyone leaves her a two dollar tip 2×9 that’s 18 dollars. After we are getting ready to go the manager comes over. She asks us how our meals were we told her fine everything was good… then she exclaims that we only left her a two dollar tip on behalf of the whole table… not true… RUDE first off tips are not mandatory though they show gratitude .we left her 18 dollars. Who does that. We were definitely worked up after that. Never had I had rude service like that. I think the situation could of been handled way differently. Never going back. UPDATE**** After leaving this review. the employee decides to leave me a smart little comment… Very unprofessional!

Came in a couple days ago. We decided to try something new after seeing their menu outside. We walked in and no one was there to greet us. We see a sign on the podium to seat ourselves and proceed. We see that none of the tables are for parties larger than two, we then see the waitress who tells us to move the tables together ourselves(guess it was a super casual restaurant?). No biggie, we then wait and order drinks, takes a while and we notice that there is only one person on the floor and making drinks. When the time comes to order drinks they seem to have run out of certain things so we had to go with our third choice of drink. We ordered food right after but it took an hour for us to get it. Farmers market flatbread: bread was crispy and loaded, wasn’t a big fan of goat cheese but it went well with the vegetables. Pub fries: nothing special reminded me of the typical American(new) restaurant style fries. Came with aoli, had to steal ketchup from another table. Fried calamari: tasted okay the aoli it came with was similar to one on the pub fries. Drinks tasted watered down. After we got out food we noticed that two more people came in and probably the owner. They weren’t in uniform or in an apron so it was hard to tell. One of them did have a baby with them, normally I don’t have a problem with that and I am assuming this is a family ran restaurant but seemed unprofessional especially since the service wasn’t that great. They do offer a rewards card which may appeal to people who often done there. Overall I paid $ 70 for average tasting food. Maybe it was a bad day but will definitely not return.

A beautiful family restaurant that teleports you to Brazil via original made in house sauces, drinks, recipes & dishes. Brunching here today was a treat given the in house ranch dressing, honey-rosemary-thyme raw cane sugar & fresh fruit beverages. The Brazi-quiles with linguica sausage are –pfff! There are no words. While sitting and chatting with Frankie, the creator of these delightfully fresh cocktails, I learned how the Buffalo Public House family started with Henrique & Nora meeting at Carnival and beginning what is now a more than romantic happy ending!

Stopped in for brunch around noon with a group of 8. Place was nearly empty when we showed up. Right off the bat they tell us there’s gonna be a delay on food. That’s fine, we’re in no hurry. Half an hour later, they announce they’re out of biscuits and there will be another delay while they make a new batch. Alright. So I had ordered the chicken biscuit and eventually it arrives. It was literally a dry biscuit with a piece of chicken on it. No sauce, no gravy, nada. The server forgot my side and brought me a consolation bed of mixed greens instead(?), which turned out to be alright after discovering a side of potatoes consists of a couple coin-size fried patties. A Portuguese couple complained about the linguica not being linguica, but I’m not really familiar so I can’t attest. I had a bite of «Brazi-quiles» and they were really bland. The whole venue has kind of an identity crisis. The co-owner came to our table with an infant strapped to her front. Running a business with a baby can’t be easy, I get it, but it felt weird and unprofessional. She was genuinely apologetic about the wait and that was nice. On the upside, their biscuits are damn good and their hot sauce is fantastic, but I think they’d be better off hawking those at the farmer’s market than trying to run a restaurant in Hillcrest. Definitely won’t be back for brunch.

I love this place! We just moved in down the street and come here at least once a week. The bar tenders are so friendly! Frankie, Sterling and Chivon(sorry about the spelling love!) are just the best! My favorite is definitely the wings! Their 50c wings on Wednesday is a great deal. The wings are a good size, very filling, with a good crisp to the outside. The malagueta sauce is sweet and very spicy, absolutely amazing! They always have a good beer selection with a good rotation for variety, and their breakfast cocktails are delicious! So yeah, Buffalo is definitely a wonderful addition to the Hillcrest family!

Came here with a bunch of friends after a night of celebrating my friends bachlorrette party. Anyways, we were originally going to go somewhere else, however no one in our party wanted to wait to be seated. We walked around the the block looking for a place and decided on this place(since it was empty). Well that should have been an obvious sign, which it was, but they thought how bad could it be… To start we ordered drinks. Oh your cappuccino machine is broken ok. Your tea maker isnt working so it took forever to get hotwater, ok. We ordered some of there fresh muffins or whatever they were called and it took over an hour and a half to get them, and to top it off they said it was because theyre oven was broken! Does anything in this place work? We all ordered different things and the brunch food was not good at all, with the exception of the empanadas. Their potatoes all had so much vinegar! so much that I almost threw up. Their version of chilaquiles also had too much vinegar and were not that good. This is definitely a place I will not be returning to, unless its for a drink. The water was good.

Visited last week for a group dinner. The staff and owners are very friendly and provided great service from when I walked in! I thought the small plates were better than entrees. We had the mac and cheese and the calamari to start. For entrees we had a burger and a goat cheese salad. I agree with other comments that the burger was okay, not great. However, I loved the salad. I would come back for that or even apps and some drinks as there beer menu was pretty well rounded. I gave four stars mostly for service, there are a lot of gastropubs along the street to grab something at after work. All offer similar food and drink offerings, but the service here stood out for me.

I’ve been waiting for a burger joint in Hillcrest to open up that has legit burgers and brews, but this place didn’t do it for me. It’s not a bad place, but it’s not worth the $ 15 burger. I’d rather go to Hodad’s, or even In-N-Out haha. I feel like most gastropubs are trying to get too crazy with the ingredients in their food. The burgers sound great when you’re reading off the menu, but when you eat them it’s a huge let down. Very very bland… Here is what I’m talking about: Food: «BPH» Burger, their signature burger — bison burger/sharp white chedder/bacon chutney/carmelized onion/roasted tomato/romain = just okay Lamb Burger — goat cheese/arugala/roasted tomato/sweet bacon and beer jam = They burned the Lamb burger which was extremely dry. Epic failure!!! yuck! Spicy Mac — malagueta/pilsner/white chedder/mozzarella/panko parmesan/nitrite free bacon = Tastes like a normal mac & cheese, nothing special. Goat Cheese Stuffed Bacon Dates — Nitrite free bacon/arugula/balsamic glaze = Pretty damn good! Get it!!! Fries — shoestring crunchy fries = Epic success!!! Alesmith Horny Devil Beer = That’s why you got 3 stars instead of 2. Love this beer. Okay so all of the descriptions are amazing right? But the food just feel short of my expectations, and I was hungry too! Don’t you hate it when you’re starving and all of that delicious hopefulness is roaming around in your head and when you finally get it, it’s blah! Damn it! Whatever, it wasn’t terrible, and I ate all of it. Our server was nice, but she was the bartender, the hostess, and the server. Are they struggling so bad that they can’t afford another person on the floor? Our food took forever and there were probably 15 people in the restaurant. They need to step up their game. I thought Hillcrest was a competitive marketplace for restaurants?

This review is based on their amazing brunch service. Today was their first day of brunch, and it was everything! We were greeted by our wonderful and bubbly server, Katie, who really made our whole experience. The food… The Sweet Coconut Pancakes with papaya and pineapple compote are a must order. They were crazy good… Gone in about a minute and a half between three people. We had the Breakfast In The Club, Fried Chicken Biscuit Sandwich, and the Eggs Benedict, all of which were delicious. Overall, we had a fun, filling and delicious meal, a wonderful experience and were glad to be the second brunch customers ever! Go.

I heard they had made some changes to their menu, specifically adding some new items and changing the bread on their burgers to a buttered brioche bun. That being said, I ordered the Beef Burger for $ 11 and added bacon for and extra dollar. The burger came with cheddar, romaine lettuce, tomato, red onion, mustard aioli, and a side shoestring fries. I ordered the burger at a medium temperature and the chef did a great job hitting the mark. As a result, the beef was moist and juicy, and had a great natural beef flavor that lingered on the palate. The beef was well seasoned. The bacon added to the burger was well prepared, tasted great, and was crispy with a bit of chew which resulted in nice texture. The mustard ailoi was mild and just right and the cheddar cheese was great. The bun was a great improvement over the old bun. This brioche bun arrived glistening on top and it was moist throughout the burger and held up well. The shoe string fries were crispy, but enough tenderness to enjoy, and nicely seasoned with a hint of rosemary. Very good fries. After adding a Scrimshaw Pilsner and the bacon, the meal came out to $ 18 with some change. My server Kelly was great. She had a good sense of humor and personality. Her service was timely and didn’t miss a beat. Most importantly, I was very pleased this time around that they hit the correct temp on meat this time around and provided a much improve bun, hence the five stars…

I had a $ 50 gift certificate for the BPH that I had been looking forward to using. My gf and I came in on a Sunday night and were surprised by how dead it was at 6:30. We were seated quickly and ordered a couple of beers from the nice selection they had. After that, unfortunately, things went down hill. We decided to share an order of the sliders and the spicy mac and cheese. The slider cheese roll was very tough and the small piece of beef inside was dry, unseasoned and had too much fat in relation to how small the piece was. Not to mention, there were barely any caramelized onions and the aioli was almost non existent. Moving on to the Mac and Cheese, when it arrived, I was expecting it to be piping hot, but was barely lukewarm, just as the sliders were. It had a bit of spice to it, but other than that, seemed about on par with a box of Kraft or Velveeta M & C. The shoestring fries were the highlight of the meal. They came out piping hot and were very tasty. Neither of us liked the aioli which looked like it had been sitting out for quite a while, so we were fine dipping the fries in good old fashioned ketchup. We were both still a little hungry, so we rolled the dice and ordered up some Linguica flat bread. After about 15 minutes, the server told us that it would be right out. 10 minutes later, she asked if we still wanted it, which should have been a sign. Instead we said ‘Yes’, and it finally came. I figured it would be piping hot at this point, but alas, it was lukewarm and had a very meager amount of cheese with a very bland tomato sauce. The crust however, was burnt on the bottom. Normally I would have sent it back, but at this point, we didn’t feel like waiting another 30 minutes. To the restaurants credit, they did comp us the flat bread, as well as the 2 beers that we ordered while we were waiting the 30 minutes to receive it. Our server was nice and multiple times asked us how we were doing, which I appreciated. Other than the good beer selection and fries, it wasn’t a very satisfying experience at all. I really liked the BPH concept and was really excited to try it, but after eating mostly bland, lukewarm, and burnt food, you won’t see me here again unless it’s just to have a couple beers.

Went there last night after my americAn boyfriend told me there was a new«Brazilian food spot». I’m very critical to Brazilian food so I didn’t hesitate to leave my comfy bed and fight for parking in cold Hillcrest to try it out. Got there at 7:30 and we were the only people on the tables, besides the owner who was on a corner table. It’s was extremely cold and the server kept the door open, I have no idea why. They have a nice beer selection and it was cold beer. Nice cold beer, yeah! As I moved to the menu I couldn’t hide my disappointment when I could only find two real authentic Brazilian entrees. There’s burgers, salads and even flatbreads and generic stuff like salmon and chicken, but original Brazilian, only the feijoada and moqueca. :( My frown turned up when we found coxinhas and pastel as appetizer. And let me tell you, the COXINHAS were one of the best I’ve had. Lots of meat and I didn’t even mind there wasn’t cheese on it. They were big, and you get 3 for $ 10 bucks, I was in heaven! I wish Americans knew more about coxinha, because they go so well with beer. The cheese pastel was also amazing and also a great deal for $ 5. I am definitely going back there just to sit on the bar, have cold beers and COXINHAS. You should too. For entrée we decided to split the house special, which is pretty much a sizzling skillet with three cuts of meat. Server told us it would come with farofa and vinaigrette but when the food came there was no farofa, but he fixed it. It was cold, tho. Blah. So, to the food… For $ 27 I can tell you I’ve had better meals. There were 4 tiny slices of steak, flank and sausage each. Combined, I am sure there wasn’t 6 ounces of meat on that skillet. It tasted bland. And the room was so cold(with that stupid door open) that everything got cold quickly. Luckily we were full from appetizers so it didn’t bother me much. It was disappointing and flavorless and expensive for its size. The server seemed to be a bit off. Nice guy but his head just wasn’t there.(As a former server I can’t blame him for wanting to not be there when the restaurant is empty but hey, we were paying, so…) he forgot our water, plates, our order… But again, he fixed it, that’s what matters to me. I like the environment and I really hope it works out, although I didn’t feel any Brazilian vibe from my visit. No Brazilian music, tv, staff, colors… Nothing. Four separate items on a busy menu are not enough for me to call this a Brazilian spot. So for now all I’m gonna do is go back there for the coxinha, pastel and beer and hope that things get a bit better…

Stopped in on our walk to Burger Lounge to fill the«I need a burger» craving on a Sunday late afternoon. As BPH has burgers as well, we thought: «why not»? Always like to check out the new neighbors, and this particular spot hasn’t had the best of luck with Asian-type cuisines. I ordered the lamb burger(with goat cheese and roasted tomatoes) with salad, and hubby got the classic with cheddar and herb fries. Both cooked medium to order. Both very much enjoyed and were quality burgers. I’m not a fry fan myself, but husband enjoyed them, and the green salad with lemon vinaigrette was perfectly simple. Didn’t see the wine list, but a quick peek at the bottle behind the bar indicate a decent, though small, selection. Beer list is very respectable, with prices similar to local places, and generous pours. As I mentioned, BL is our typical go-to for meaty+bready+saucy goodness, so for ease, here is the comparison(yes, I realize BPH has other things on the menu, but it’s burgers were’re focusing on here): Atmosphere: BPH is the clear winner. I really do not like the almost-too-clean and sterile BL. BPH is simple and inviting. Food: I prefer BL. I like their WW buns, and the burger is a bit juicier and contains more flavour than their new competitor. Drinks: BPH clearly offers significantly more options for beer enthusiasts, though as a Racer fan, BL hits the spot if they continue to carry this as one of their few options. BL’s one wine option is also a good one(Angeline), so again, this is not a disadvantage. Who needs distraction? Value: this is a difficult one to ascertain with 1 visit, as Morgan(our friendly server at BPH) gave us a 2-for-1 deal that we didn’t even know about, which was quite generous. Take this away, and you can leave BL with a lower bill, yes. Nice though, that BPH’s burgers come with a salad or fries, where these are extra at BL. So it depends on what you’re looking for. I’m not counting BPH out yet! Though next burger craving(I’m sure this will be soon), I’ll probably head over to BL.

The service was great and the décor is very hip. This place is also going to have late hours, so it will be a welcome joint when the bars close for the night. While I appreciate the effort at bringing Brazilian food to the gastropub, some of the dishes I tried were amazing on the menu, but not as amazing on the plate. As an appetizer, we tried the linguica($ 9). Overall, the dish was average. The sausage reminded me of the Hillshire Farms sausage that you get at the grocery store, and the toasted yucca flower was weird. It was tasteless and crumbly. I understand trying to add some texture to the dish, but I would have just preferred a nice piece of bread to put the sausage, onions, and a little bit of sauce on. We also tried the coxihna($ 10). They were really delicious fried balls with chicken inside. This was probably my favorite item. The sauce it came with was a thick aioli and it was really tasty. I actually asked for extra. Lastly, we ordered the sliders($ 9). I guess we were expecting ground beef, so when a mini steak came out, we were pleasantly surprised. It was really tender and seasoned well. The only thing I didn’t like was the Brazilian cheese buns. I would have much preferred a softer bread. There are quite a few other items I would like to try on the menu, and it’s in a great location, so I think we will be back, but based on what I tried recently, I’m not a fan yet.

Saturday night… and we couldn’t decide where to have drinks and small bites. Walking around Hillcrest we came across this place where if I’m not mistaken Pink Noodle used to be. I tried to read what was posted on their chalkboard outside and soon a friendly face invited us to take a look at the menu. It caught our eye since I wanted food and the husband wanted beer! Something about a Brazilian inspired Gastropub definitely caught our attention. The décor is inviting, fresh colors, spacious seating and the friendliest staff ever! I ordered the beef sliders with chimichurri and the coxinha(chicken crispy croquettes). My favorite were the beef sliders, what makes them special besides the chimichurri is the house made cheese bread! Yuuuum! On the drinks selection you will find a very extensive craft beer list and a great wine menu as well. I was not drinking that night but next time I will definitely try some vinos. Overall a great new addition to Hillcrest and definitely worth the try. I can’t wait to go back and order the«pastel»(flaky stuffed fried pastries).
