I love the House of Finland! Having been exposed to Finish culture for many years, this is one of my favorite houses to stop each time there is some multicultural event at the mini cottages of Balboa Park. Last Sunday there was the annual ethnic food fair(maybe they have more than once a year, at least during Christmas time they also serve food and of course during each country’s own celebrations) and could not resist to stop by and get some goodies. All these pretty blond volunteer women with silky faces smiling shy and diligently preparing fresh salmon salad with potatoes, making the fantastic donuts(forget American donuts, sorry, this is my type of donuts and could not take only one!). Orange juice freshly made was amazing too. This is my favorite house because they seem to be very well organized and you don’t get huge lines like in other houses, plus if you just want dessert no need for you to be in the food line. The place is small, clean and showing the minimalistic design that characterize Finland. There is a nice bench inside to rest in the shadow and also a couple of tables outside if you prefer the sun. They seem shy, but talk to them and you will be surprised of Finn hospitality!
