I’ve been going to this place for years. I really like this farmers market because of the proximity to my work and the convenience of going there during lunch. Even though I’ve been to other much bigger markets, the vendors here are very friendly and helpful in answering any questions I might have regarding flowers, produce, nuts, etc. I believe they close around 2:30 or 3; I just wish they stay open until after work. At any rate, I plan to come back every week for their flowers and occasional fruits.

It’s cute and I like the location. The downside is that there’s only a few vendors — less than ten booths. The upside — there’s plenty of flowers and a couple of good produce vendors. A good place to check out if you’re in the DT area on Thursdays. But if you’re just perusing, it’ll take less than 10 minutes to walk around.

Everything is so overpriced. An observation at the almond vendor. A girl in front of me was buying almonds. She told the vendor that last time he sold her nuts that were sitting out, and she asked for fresh nuts(since after all, she was paying full price). He took a plastic cup, dumped what was in there into the alleged fresh nuts, opened a cooler, pulled out a ratty looking rag, wiped the cup and then went to scoop out her almonds for her. She called him on it and he pulled out the rag and told her he washed it either that day or the day before. She said unsanitary and asked for him to use a plastic bag insert. He was kind enough to do that — but after seeing that — I had to wonder — how sanitary is this guy??? I opted not to buy almonds from him. He was selling a tub the size of margarine for $ 12.00. After watching the girl in front of me — I had to wonder. .. how long were those almonds out there? How sanitary is this food I’m about to pay 3x the supermarket value for?

The Horton Plaza Farmers Market, held Thursdays 11 – 3 from March till October is sooo nice. It’s so good to get out of the office and go out and see what they all have. There are three or four vendors selling cut flowers, a couple selling plants, succulents; orchids, tomatoes, strawberries, oranges, cheeses. Today I bought cherries and a beautiful little fuschia plant. I love how the guys who sell the plants at the northeast corner of the square are so knowledgeable, they tell you all the answers to the questions you forget to ask about your new plant. I’ve never bought vegetables here ’cause they always seem to be a little pricey. I wish they’d get some vendors that’d sell fun things like sugar snap peas and brussels sprouts and rhubarb… at farmers market prices please. :)

I always look forward to this time of year in Downtown San Diego for the following reasons: 1.) Springtime!: My favorite season(second to winter) is just around the corner! This, of course, means warm(er) weather, flowers in bloom, picnics and spring cleaning! YAYHOORAY! 2.) My birthday!: The day I forever changed my parents world for the better(or worse) is steadfastly approaching. I look forward to over-indulging in cake, cupcakes and candy(the cursed Three C’s); and 3.) The Horton Square Farmers’ Market is back after a four-month hiatus! The Horton Square Farmers’ Market is rather modest in size with less than ten vendors, but I love it all the same. Every Thursday, the local San Diego farmers unload and set up their display after 11 a.m. and pack it in by 3 p.m. From what I’ve seen, they offer a nice selection of organically grown produce, fresh cut bouquets of flowers and potted plants. On occasion, I’ve also seen for purchase local honey, mixed nuts and/or dried fruit. This afternoon, I walked over to Horton Square to check out the fresh vegetables. I decided on two bunches of asparagus for $ 5 to take home to my mom. I headed back to my office, but not before sampling some fresh strawberries and blueberries. :)

I love Horton Square Farmers Market. Decent size farmers market for being in the middle of Horton. They have a good selection of flowers. This past week they seemed to have way more of a selection of fruits & vegetables as well. Oh and cheese. I bought some Japanese seedless grapes that were so good not to sweet. However the fruits and veggies can be a little over price but the quality is good. So you get what you pay for. Out of all the fruits the strawberries are the best deal. Three big baskets of fresh luscious strawberries for $ 5.00. So if you’re ever downtown on a Thursday afternoon, and want to pick up some fresh flowers or tasty goodies head down to the square.

have been here a few times now, and holy smokes is it expensive. the flowers are the only thing that are reasonably priced, and they only last a couple of days. sadly, i would go to the store before shopping here.

I started working downtown recently and was so happy to see that there is a farmers market right downstairs from my office! There are very nice fresh fruits and vegetables and lots of plants. I hope they expand into other products like other farmers markets in town.

I love Farmer’s Markets. None of them could ever rank lower than the 3 star«good to s’ok» category. This one has many places for fresh flowers but other than that it lacks. It is seriously the smallest farmer’s market I have seen — really, there are only a few vendors. The low down: — Thurs 11am — 3pm(March — October) — Right across from the Citibank
