I was expecting good diner food and was underwhelmed. The best part about my meal was the waitress and the company. Good was mediocre, coffee was bitter and parking was abysmal. I really don’t understand the line out the door! Won’t be coming back

Was in town for the weekend and decided to try this place out. Waking in we were greeted as soon as the door opened and were seated right away. Ordered the ropa vieja and the chilaquiles and both were amazing! Definitely gonna stop by again next time I’m in town and getting the same thing!

Very casual hole in a walk neighborhood diner. Great place for breakfast. If you are looking for a fancy healthy restaurant this is not for you. Try their chilaquiles!

I’ve been coming to this joint since high school(let’s just say I’ve seen a couple of reunions) a long time. Literally the same staff since I can remember! This place is an integral part of the neighborhood. Character, friendly staff and hey, the filmed K-9 here in 1988! This place deserves 10 stars! LOVELOVELOVE Golden Hill Café! Favorites: Machaca Pancake special

I come here at least once every 2 weeks to get my biscuits and gravy fix. I love how cheap this place is for the quality of down to earth, homemade food. Honestly, this place isn’t amazing in taste, décor, or anything much, but there is something about this place that I feel so comfortable in, nothing beats that for me.

come on down to our side of town for a delicious breakfast, raised in Golden Hills and glad to have this place as a café for decades. it’s like being in a café like in the older movies style type thing, if you like that sort of thing. Taking my girl there today cause even she heard it was great. EVENSTAFFAREGREAT !

Servers are nice and attentive! The food is not out of the ordinary great, you can most likely make it at home but you’re too lazy. Typical breakfast foods with nothing out of the ordinary, but good.

My first review said not to come here if you are looking for healthy and I’d like to revise that statement. I recently became a vegan and this café has gone out of its way to accommodate me. Their ingredients are locally sourced and fresh. Their bread come from a nearby family bakery, the produce from nearby farms — my first impression was that this was a greasy spoon(a very lovable greasy spoon) but now I’m seeing it more as the hometown restaurant that all of the new modern restaurants are trying to emulate. Golden Hill Coffee Shop doesn’t need to put a sign on the wall advertising that they do things the right way. They just do. This place makes me proud to live in Golden Hill.

This is a decent little restaurant that serves mainly breakfast. We came in on a Sunday morning around 9am and the wait was about 15min. The place had great customer service with the hostess cleaning tables and seating people. The food is decent nothing out of this world. The menu was pretty simple. I ordered two eggs with bacon a side of hash brown and a order of French toast. The food was served super fast. I will consider again this place for breakfast.

My boyfriend wanted to take me out for brunch and decided, Golden Hill Café, was the place to go. I have never been here, and he wasn’t kidding when he said this place was a «small hole in the wall». The waitresses aren’t very hospitable but the food portions are very generous. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and they were alright. All in all, I would say give them a shot.

We’ve been coming here since we moved to Golden Hill a year ago and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly and the food is always on point. Don’t expect anything fancy. It’s a homey feel diner. My husband swears the hot cakes are the best in town while I’m sold on the chilaquiles. They are seriously the best I’ve ever had. When ever family comes to visit this is our go to breakfast spot. We love golden Hill Café:)

This is a no frills diner. I enjoyed my usual — bacon eggs sourdough toast and hashbrowns but it wasn’t anything special. Boyfriend got some French toast that was absolutely swimming in butter but the syrup was sitting on the table in the heat and just seemed a little gross. There were a ton of flies and the iced tea had a funny taste to it. Mi novio was not impressed at all so likely we will not be returning but I love how close it is to home and the old school diner vibe.

This place is cute. It’s your standard corner café. I got pancakes(two huge ones) eggs and hashbrowns. The waitress was quick and to the point when taking my order and ringing me up at the end.

My wife and I found this awesome Café Shop back in 2012 and loved it. I can’t believe that I had not rated it as of yet but that ends with this review. Golden Hill Café is located in the Golden Hills neighborhood and is away from the touristy setting of downtown San Diego. This is one of the great things about it that I love. The prices are really good, the portions are large, and the service is outstanding. We are mostly there about breakfast time. I had an egg omelet with ham, mushrooms, and cheese. My wife also had an omelet with well done sausage. Mine was very delicious and hers was too. The large glass of orange juice was also excellent. The wonderful ladies who serve us are a delight, as are the guys who remove the dishes off the tables, along with the chefs/cooks in the kitchen. I can see them as they prepare our meal. All who are part of Golden Hill Café offer sincere warmth, smile at you, and are so very friendly. I love the atmosphere of this wonderful place as it is very family friendly. Even though there may be a wait to get a table it’s worth it. Thanks Golden Hill Café. See you next year!!! was in it.

Not sure why this place(also known as Golden Hill Café) has some negative reviews… I had a very positive experience here! Customer service was excellent and we were seated right away, even on a Saturday morning. Most importantly, the food was good! I tried the chilaquiles, pancakes, and hash browns. It was nothing too fancy, just diner food, but still really tasty. The coffee is decent and they bring you unlimited refills. Our total bill was only $ 21 for two adults. I’ll definitely be back!

I live in walking distance to this place and have been here several times over the years. If I had written this review a year ago, I would have given it 3 stars tops, but on my most recent visit it seems that the food had improved quite a bit. Not that it really matters for places like this. It’s a regular neighborhood diner that people know by word of mouth — not some much by reviews. I also gave it an extra star because our servers have been consistently friendly. You can’t beat the breakfast special prices either. There’s still a small breakfast plate for $ 3.95. I don’t even think that there is anything on the menu over $ 10, so how do you rate that? Diner food will always be diner food and I don’t often set my expectations too high when visiting one. This is definitely a 4 star diner now with all of the outside seating and all.(Just kidding, there are a only a couple of small tables out there now but progress is progress.)
