Great place to get hair and nails done! The prices cannot be beat. However, unless you have very high pain tolerance, I would not recommend going here for eyebrow waxing. They use the hard wax instead of the soft wax like many other salons use. After the woman waxes your eyebrows, every time without fail to drum up more business, she will tell you how you also NEED to have other parts of your face waxed because of how terrible it looks. I never do though, so after that, I usually leave there feeling more like a freak rather than more beautiful like I had hoped.

Because I hate change, I followed a stylist from shop to shop — five moves — until she landed at Floyd’s. My schedule and habits required more flexibility than Floyd’s permitted my stylist, so I bailed, then wandered, long-haired and desperate, until I found Yen at Gallery Hair and Nail. The thing is, I like scissor cuts, which take time and skill, and I don’t mind paying for those things, but I’ve found that many stylists aren’t willing to take the time, or don’t have the skill. At Gallery, Yen delivers a top-notch haircut, and the price is perfectly reasonable. Gallery is definitely a neighborhood salon. I run into friends and customers in the parking lot, and in the next chair over. I get my mail next door, and cigarettes and lotto tickets two doors down. Yen and her daughters walk by our house every Halloween; they live near us, and the neighborhood kids know that I’m a soft touch. Unusual for the salon business, Gallery’s employees stay put. The shop has been in place for over a decade. Wayne, the former owner, sold the business to Kim, but never left. For seven years, he’s been a cutter. He was also, for twenty years, owner of a shop at 30th and Howard. I suspect Wayne hates change as much as I do. Reliability is soothing to we old men. So are quality, and value for money spent. Gallery delivers these things, and I’m glad these folks are my neighbors.

Disclaimer: close up toe pictures are never pretty, but they are necessary(and hopefully helpful) in this case. I don’t post one star Unilocal reviews lightly. I had the worst mani-pedi I have ever had in my life at this place and I’m pretty frustrated I just spent $ 45 of my money on this. Both my friend and mom said I should have not had to pay for this and that I should receive a refund. I don’t care how inexpensive the spa pedicure it is, it is not worth it if the polish is sloppy. I had dry skin left all over my toes and could barely feel the 45 second massage. The polish got all over my skin(see close up pictures of red pedicure). The pedicure lasted a whole 17 minutes. The gel manicure I received was also lackluster. No gel top coat was used and my nails are very dull not even an hour after the manicure is over. They should be shining like diamonds! There was also polish left on my skin from this as well(see close up pictures of pink manicure). I also ended up having to just grab my own shoes and put them on my feet because I was left sitting there. There was an older woman next to me who also had a pedicure. Her daughter had to come over and put her shoes on for her as well because she was sitting there for about 20 minutes. Lastly, I didn’t see any«official» sanitation processes taking place with any of the utensils used. The entire place in general seemed really dingy and dirty. I should have said something but honestly just wanted to get the hell out of the place so just nodded and waited for my toes to dry. I also left a small tip because I was feeling awkward and embarrassed at the whole situation and just wanted to leave and also didn’t want to feel like a total B. I realize now upon closer inspection of hands and feet that that was a total mistake. The only positives I could find with this place is that the workers seem to be relatively friendly and they take walk-ins. UPDATE: My **gel** manicure lasted a whopping(almost) 4 days before starting to majorly chip. I get 2 — 3 weeks out of gel manicures from other places. My pedicure also looks terrible and has chipped big time on almost half of my toes.

Enjoyed my spa manicure /pedicure this morning at Gallery. I needed a place close to home and this fit the ticket. Older retired crowd mainly. I paid $ 35 +tip for the service which included a callus remover upgrade. Kim did my pedicure, and I didn’t get the name of technician who did my fingers, but both were great. Nice long foot/leg massage.

They spend a lot of time on a pedicure which make it all worth it! All the ladies are nice. Been going there for years and have never been dissatisfied.

Quick service, walked in and seen right away. Got a fill for $ 15. Reasonably priced and the women working were friendly.

I have been coming here for years. The service is consistently good, they do their best to accept walk-ins. Prices are reasonable, the girls are really nice. Spa pedicures are FANTASTIC. It’s right around the corner, I won’t go anywhere else in San Diego
