The costumes and set designs were beautiful. I especially love it when they went into the audience. Some of the singers were not as strong as your typical Broadway performer but it has to be expected. This is a Disney production made for kids. The story is predictable as in the movie. Enjoy the pageantry of it all and HAKUNAMATATA!

I did see this show TWICE! Amazing! Fortunately, I had wonderful seats both times, but wherever you sat you would not be dissatisfied. The opening act you truly feel that excitement as it goes completely dark, a light shines, drums pounding, wonderful loud singing, huge puppet like giraffes, elephants, birds wonder throughout the audience. Watching as little children turning completely around in their seats so not to miss any of it. Taking this wonderful Disney movie and placing it on stage was a task worth while! I loved it both visits and truly cannot WAIT for it to return! A cast of amazing, talented, gifted actors, and singers! I did not want to blink afraid I would miss something!!! Take the family, bring a friend or attend alone! So worth your time!

The King is still the surpeme in the jungle!!! I know that I saw this show 3 months ago but the previous review just didn’t do the show justice. It’s a Tony® Award-winning Broadway sensation! Give credit where it is due. Based on the 1994 Disney animated film, THELIONKING is noted as one of the most popular shows on tour around the world. From the creative spectacle of animals brought to life to the amazing vocals, this show is worth the watch for Disney fans and non-fans alike as well as people of all ages. I don’t know who dreamed up the amazing character outfits but they identify the character while keeping the actor mobile. They couldn’t have EVERY animal in the wild kingdom on stage so they got creative by pushing you to use your own imagination to envision stampeding wildebeests and leaping gazelles in the backdrop. The music in this show is loud and emotional, leaving bits of Elton John’s original to be heard, along with other elements in a combination of pop harmonies and tribal rhythms. Characters dance their way through the storyline, stopping for periods of conversation and then off to singing. All of the routines that captured the mood and spirit of Lion King cartoon. Taking you on an emotional roller coaster from start to finish this show was a pleasure to watch. As always Timon and Pumba were a riot! Sit in the front or balcony for the best view. It’s still touring!

Just went to see the Lion King this weekend @ the Civic Theater… HIGHLYDISAPPOINTED! You don’t know how long I have been waiting to see this! Always sold out everytime I was in New York & last time in SD was 4 years ago! Anyways, the reasons I was disappointed… *Lines & jokes were corny… I didn’t find myself laughing at all. The hyennas were the worst! Some guy a couple of rows behind me thought this was the funniest thing in the world… laughing obnoxiously loud & even slapping his knee during some parts! *Everything was so predictable… if you’ve seen the animated movie, you know what is coming in the next act & will know all of the lines too. I thought they would have adapted it for the theater. Not everything translated well from the animation to the theater. *Costumes not as impressive as advertised… I guess I expected too much? I didn’t care too much for the puppets. *Soundtrack…all of the good songs from the movie were done partially or not at all. Instead other slow, awful songs were used. I did enjoy the character of Rafiki. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the theater like Wicked, Annie, Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon but these were good and entertaining… sadly I found myself bored & my mind wandering during the Lion King. **Bottom line: Just watch the animated movie.
