Vantaggio is the management company that was hired by the Herrick Family Trust, which owns the Beaumanor Lofts on Sixth Avenue in downtown San Diego. Eriko Niwa is the onsite manager. The goal of the company is to evict all 52 tenants in the building and convert it to housing for international students at, for some units, about three times more than the current rental price. Communication from Vantaggio has been poor and things have been left in disrepair since their arrival. Though I have not lived in any of their other properties, if a once beautiful historic building can be in peril as a result of their oversight, I can only imagine worse for buildings that they actually own.

Don’t even waste your time. The manager of this place is a prick. I called and left a voice mail with no reply, a week later I called again and left another voice mail. The next day I decided to stop by for a visit because it looked like a promising place to live and I wanted a tour, and a sign on door said«Room for Rent, contact management for a walk-through»(Seemed promising). And so I called. No answer. Called again, no answer. Called a third time just to try my luck(3rd times a charm) and the manager RUDELY picked up, «Are you the person who keeps calling me?!» like, yea dude I’m trying to give you money so I can live in your dumpy building. where he then told me that I was too desperate and inconsiderate, and that I didn’t give him a chance to even listen to his voice mails. When in fact, I gave him more than a week to listen and call me back. This guy is a jerk, and I was MORE than polite to him the entire conversation. No wonder there was a vacant room. I wouldn’t want to live in the building with this guy in charge.

I’ve been living here for about 7 months now, and like the place. Its not for everyone, but its cheap and clean. The internet is worthless however, I had to go ahead and buy my own connection rather than the supplied wireless. The places are really small and there are no kitchens, so that will be hard for many people to live with. Its really quite and everyone here seems pretty conscientious about noise and keeping to themselves. Some of the rooms can get a little loud if you’re on the street side, so that is something to consider. Also, no air conditioning, so if you don’t like the heat it may not work for you. They do have a pigeon problem on the deck outside, which is kinda gross.

Apartments in this building are small, but nice and reasonably priced. But BEWARE the hot-headed building manager.
