Lofts At 777 Sixth Ave

I lived here for a year and had a phenomenal experience compared to my current domicile, which will be brazenly scalded and torched as soon as I move out and not a moment later.
As for 777 6^th:
I lived in the unit directly above Quality Social. While there was noise from the bar, street noise on non weekend nights was negligible.
4 stars because of lighting and closet space, as separate issues. However, lighting in closet space wasn’t ideal either. I’ve noticed many of the high rises in E. Village/​Downtown masquerade under this energy efficiency LEED bullshit. I’ve also noticed many people enjoy perpetual mood lighting. Me? Bring on the flourescents, I’ll install my own dimmers and find my own skilled surgeons and their scalpels. These people that live in the half dark — you know that you don’t really look like that, right? Forget the planet you’re saving — just want to confirm you’re aware.
Lighting aside, I truly believe the materials and finishes are condo-​grade and you can tell a difference. Neighbors were great, The Hub Deli across the street was delicious and had great ownership, and there were guaranteed weekly run-​ins the legendary Leo, the BMW driving Pomeranian who lived nearby. Thr Coffee and Art coffee and blokes also cool. The building seems to attract the cultured professional and appeared mostly and thankfully devoid of the brozone layer.

Price: Pretty good. You can get a unit without parking for pretty cheap, and the units with 1 space aren’t bad. They’re about average for a loft/​1br around 650 – 700 sqft.
Location: Fantastic. Really in the heart of everything. You’re a block or two away from all the major clubs in downtown, and right in the heart of things in general. There’s a great Coffee Shop (Coffee & Art) downstairs, run by some pretty cool guys from New Zealand. The Deli across the street has great sandwiches. CVS is a few blocks away. Seriously, I really loved the location.
Units: The layout of the units isn’t bad. If you’re against one of the walls you get a 1br and if you’re inside you get a loft layout. We had a 1br. The top floor units have these nice little balconies that are pretty cool. Our biggest problem was the vents go into the walls & the vents in the bathrooms. It let a TON of the soot and crap from downtown in and really messed with my health.
Amenities: Meh. No pool. Not a huge deal to me. The only time we tried the grill it didn’t work. Whatever, not a huge deal.
Problems: Other than the vents we were unfortunate enough to get a unit that was on the 4^th floor. Top floor, what’s the problem you’d ask? Well there’s a shitty little «club» across the street called McFadden’s that has an open roof area that they BLAST music out of. The bass & noise basically reflects straight into a few of the upstairs units closest to it (right next to the end of the movie theater… above and to the left of the deli). It’s not a problem if you’re an industry person and you go out every Thursday, Friday and Saturday (and I mean literally every Thu, Fri and Sat). If you don’t want to be forced into going out every day of the weekend then make sure you do not get one of the west facing units. Pick one on the inside of the building and you should be OK. This would be a lot higher rating if it weren’t for the unit we got, and the problems with the vents.

The rehab center that was on 7^th is torn down! Don’t know what it’s going to be yet but the building is gone!

I heart 777 Lofts!
I am as urban as it gets… I love city living and walking everywhere.
I work downtown, live downtown and play downtown.
777 Lofts is right in the middle of everything, yet it stays serene enough to enjoy a peaceful living environment.
I love the concrete floors, open floor plans, exposed pipes, HUGE windows.
The neighbors are so friendly and the community is well maintained.

Great place to live, wonderful location close to everything! We have no complaints about living in this building, and are only moving because I need to be closer to work in Carlsbad.
Go to the Hub right across the street for some very yummy sandwiches and anything else you might need! Then within literally a 2 to 5 minute walk there’s analog, bareback grill, seersucker, zanzibar café, brian’s 24, vin de syrah… the list goes on and on.
That said, you are living on top of Quality Social and in the middle of a ton of other bars. Just know that you will hear the «woo girls» from time to time!

There are so many different areas to live downtown that all have pros and cons, obviously. Having said that, the Lofts at 777 is my favorite place thus far. The building is well kept, clean, has a garage, and – most importantly – is super accessible to everything. I love how close it is to the highway entrance off 11^th street. Being downtown can get frustrating with traffic so highway accessibility is huge for me. The only reason it give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that it’s a pain for parking on the weekends when you have guests over BUT that’s how it is everywhere dt so it’s just something you have to deal with if you want the fun dt lifestyle… C’est la vie

Here’s the thing… I remember when this place was built and it was building this reputation of being some stellar place to live. Well, having lived there I think it’s safe to say that it’s definitely a cool place to live for a short period of time, especially if you are just transitioning to San Diego and want to live somewhere centrally located in Downtown.
The circulation in the building totally blows. You walk outside your air conditioned loft and the hallways are like a sauna. If you live facing 6^th Street you’ve got the noise Thursday thru Sunday and the traffic to match. If you live facing 7^th you’re guaranteed to have a nice view of one of SD’s drug rehab centers and a daily bum or two pissing on the back entrance to the lofts.
Once in your loft, though, I have to admit they are pretty cool. Mine had a cool concrete laminate floor that had a rust/​brick/​orange wash to it and the lighting fixtures are pretty cool.
If you are leasing, the girl is pretty cool until you sign the lease then she shows you how moody she can be if you ever go in to ask to borrow the dolly she so happily offered up pre signing. :)
I couldn’t help it. It’s true.
Overall, it’s cool and the other residents are really nice and seem like they’ve got their shit together.
